Internet Marketing Tips – Why You Must Diversify Your Online Business

As Internet marketers, we have a tendency to hop on to the latest trends whenever they come up. Yes, it’s crucial to keep in touch with the latest strategies, but that doesn’t mean hopping on to every brand new shiny thing. Some strategies are all shiny on the outside, but when you look at the return on investment, it’s terrible. Many trends also don’t last. Many online business models either become ineffective or evolve. That’s why it is important to diversify your online business.

Let’s take social marketing for example. Twitter is all the rage at the moment. Some people have even started building their entire businesses around it! They get freelancing clients from Twitter or even use it as a traffic source. Well Twitter themselves don’t have a real business model, they seem to be run non-profit. So do you think you are going to make thousands every month from using it? Only a handful of people in the world are probably doing so, so it doesn’t sound like a place to stake your claim is it? Not to mention people go on to these social networking sites not looking for things to buy or searching for information; they go on there to socialize, so your conversion rates are typically very low.

Another example is search engine optimization. If your entire traffic stream is derived from SEO, then you have a big problem – you are not in control, the search engines are. If they do an update (as they have done many times before), it will shake up the order in the SE’s and your site may be left floundering no matter what you do. It is just how the big boys do things. The status quo is hardly ever the same from day to day, so depending entirely on SEO is a dangerous thing to do.

I hope you now why you shouldn’t develop tunnel vision, particularly when your business is maturing.

Home Business Tips – How to Get Rid of Pesky Distractions Easily Without Failure!

When you are working from home, it is very easy to get distracted. Some people just can’t control themselves and find they have to go to the library or the coffee shop to get some work done. I prefer ‘forcing’ myself to be productive at home. When you can work from home without distractions, you can get a lot done in less time.

One of the best ways to work from home productively is to set up a neat home office. This means that your home office area should not contain any other distractions like a television set. This should be the space where you work and do nothing else. If you find other things distracting you (like your family members bugging you all the time), simply tell them that you’re working. Perhaps close the door so that you will not be bothered when you are working.

If you get distracted easily when you are working online, then you must take some corrective actions there as well. Try not to check your email every few minutes. These days, most people expect their email to be replied to quickly, but frankly, most of the emails you will get concern their interests and not yours. Few emails are so urgent that they must be replied to now.

If you feel the urge to go to Twitter or your favorite social networking site just to chitchat, don’t. Do that after work or before work. Don’t do it while you’re working. Twitter, YouTube and other sites can get addictive if you’re not careful. Get your work done, and then spend maybe 30 minutes on Twitter or any other recreation site that you want to visit.

It’s the only way you can ever get productive.

Website Designing for E-commerce and Community Websites

Many designers do not understand the difference between designing for a commercial website or a community website. For them there is only one set pattern of designing which they follow for all website designing projects. This is not the right technique of going about website designing.

There is a great difference in designing for a shopping portal and a community website. Where the target of a community portal is generally restricted to making visitors land on the website and to register with them, the target of the e-commerce websites is to bring the visitor to the portal, showcase the various products and finally generate a lead or a sale.

The rapid growth in the Internet business has lead to a rise in the requirement of both these categories of websites. Where a great number of brands are now making beneficial use of e-commerce to expand their business, a reasonably large number of traffic is also attracted to community websites where they socialize and make business transactions too.

As a matter of fact, web designing for e-commerce and community websites is quite different. Yet there are a few points which can be classified as common factors in their websites. One such commonality between the two extremely different types of websites is the focal point. Both the websites aim at targeting more traffic which, will accomplish their target action. For commercial websites the target is to generate a lead or a sale, whereas the target action of the commercial websites is either to register to the website or to make the visitor visit and revisit their website in order to participate in the numerous features that have been added to the website.

It is ideally suggested that you get your website designed by a professional website designing firm. They are professional people who best understand the requirement for your website and will be able to provide the right input to your website creation. There are several website development firms that have established their business across the globe. It is quite easy to get in touch with them and discuss your project in order to meet your website requirements.

Free computer tips and tricks that are easy to understand

There are thousands of computer related websites that offer free computer tips, tricks, help and support. There is endless information available about how to use computers, computer problem solving, and computer tips and tricks to tweak your machine. But the big question is, can you understand what they are trying to explain?

Obviously there are a number of outstanding computer help websites that have made it to the top of the rankings because they are great. However hundreds of slap dash computer tip websites appear every week. These websites are the culprit.

I have been working with computers for more than 20 years, and even I find it almost impossible to follow instructions from certain websites. Obviously if I can’t understand their tutorials, then they have a serious problem. Unfortunately sometimes they do not test their instructions to see if they actually work, or they sometimes leave one important step out. Leaving just one step out of a tutorial can render the entire process a waste of time and can also turn to disaster for a novice computer user.

This is why I have developed my website (Tips4pc) with every user in mind. For example if I had an article on “How to create a task in the Windows Task Scheduler” I would have to tell the reader how to find the Task Scheduler first. I would not simply presume that they know how to get there.

Also some people may laugh when they see tutorials on the absolute computer basics such as turning a computer on and off, using a computer mouse, moving a file, and so on. In this day and age it is a mistake to presume that everyone knows how to do these simple tasks, because believe me they do not.

Free computer tips and tricks can educate you and help you become an expert computer user, however you just need to understand the tutorials. If you are a new computer user you do not need the stress of trying to understand something that is not written with you in mind.

Social Networking Software – Why have it?

Charles Babbage could never have imagined his discovery of computers would make the world such a tiny place. Computers have revolutionized the way we interact and thanks to further advancement in internet technology the world as of now has certainly restricted to a tiny place. The newest phenomenon in the internet space is undoubtedly the social networking websites which have redefined the way we interact and connect to people. Social networking provides an ideal platform for information sharing between people and groups especially sharing similar interests. The phenomenon of social networking has left no country untouched and has made its presence felt in one way or the other. The idea of starting my own social networking platform seems very challenging and appealing to me. I feel it challenging simply because of the fact that there are already a large number of social networking websites dominating the internet space and I have identified a challenge in making my social networking website stand apart from the flock. I have made up my mind to have my own social networking website up and ready soon. I don’t want to emulate any of the giants such as facebook.com, twitter.com, orkut.com, myspace.com, etc. but take it one step at a time. Got some expert advice from close quarters that to begin with I will have to invest in to a good social networking software. Absolutely! I said to all of them and agreed that a solid foundation is an essential first step on which I do not want to compromise upon. A further analysis of the market provided information that there are many free to use Social Networking Software such as Ning.com which are available online and provide in-built solutions to kick-start my social networking campaigns. However, on careful review I found these free social networking software lacking in features/functionalities which I want on my social networking website. Therefore, I have now decided to tap on to the power and potential of open-source technologies in general and the ever-popular Drupal in particular. After extensive research I am finalizing Drupal as the platform on which I will build my social networking campaign. Such is the excitement that I wanted to pen it all in the form of this article and share my experience with you all.

Top Technology Tips for Teachers

Teachers taking their first tentative steps into the world of education may be a little overwhelmed at first at the prospect of facing a classroom of young learners, all relying on their imagination and resourcefulness to take them to the next stage in their lives.

On top of this, there will be school policies and curriculums to adhere to, new colleagues and perhaps a few ‘class management’ issues to contend with too. So it suffices to say that a teacher’s job has its fair share of challenges.

However, this is counteracted with the many rewarding facets of the profession, including working with lots of adorable young people, eager to hang on the teacher’s every word and learn many valuable lessons that extend well beyond the confines of their textbooks.

Teachers in the modern digital era are lucky, however, in that they have a myriad of tools to tap into that can make their jobs just that little bit easier. Whilst there are a whole host of interactive multimedia tools available to help teachers in the classroom, the wider technological sphere can be used to their advantage outside the classroom too.

Social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace weren’t developed for the sole purpose of helping friends keep in touch. They are fantastic forums for teachers to connect and collaborate with other educators around the globe.

Twitter is one of the latest social networking tools to take the world by storm and it’s incredibly simple to use. Teachers can develop a personal learning network (PLN) on Twitter, and connect with other teachers who specialise in the same subject area, and best practices, tips and tricks can be shared with ease across the international online community.

There are differing opinions on whether children using technology is a good thing in the home, with games consoles, computers and multimedia devices replacing more conventional forms of personal development tools. The fact is, however, they are there and they can’t be ignored. Children who are switched on to technology at home may become bored in the classroom if presented with a simple textbook, so it’s important to engage the children as much as possible – this will make the learning process a whole lot easier. Teachers can keep a folder of ‘bookmarked’ websites containing problem-solving puzzles or other educational, interactive media sites, which are ideal for filling any spare time throughout the day.

Similarly, the link between home and school is crucial. Young learners shouldn’t switch off when they leave the classroom, they should continue to learn at home too. If a teacher was to build a simple website containing things such as classroom policies, homework, newsletters, calendars and topics covered in class, parents will be better positioned to engage with their children and take an active role in their kids’ development.

So teachers shouldn’t rely solely on classroom-specific technology such as interactive whiteboards and learner response systems to advance their pupils’ learning. The wonders of modern technology extend beyond the four walls of the class and teachers should be using them to their full advantage.

Social Networking: Top Tools for the Ideal Twitter Experience

Twitter: The Ultimate Experience of Social Media(Updated and revised based on my experience through longer use).Haven’t tried it yet?I find Twitter is the most fun social networking tool – by far. It feels like a game in some way. It offers real time connection and current synchronization with those you don’t get to be with all the time. It shares interesting new happenings that you wouldn’t have known about.Tweets are limited to 140 characters – so this requires people to keep their posts short and sweet. And, to top it off, it’s low maintenance! Profiles are light and don’t need much updating. The information below may be a little much if this is your first time on reading up, but check it out for a quick orientation to TwitterLand :) .A seasoned twitterer? This article is designed for us. All in all, twitter is great left as simple as it is. However, a few tools can enhance the experience. After reviewing tons of available apps, these I find are most useful and enjoyable. Try them out and have some fun! Would love to hear your favorites as well.Regular Use:One of the most fun ways to use twitter is on your mobile phone. Be ready for the times when you think of the greatest tweets with these phone apps:TwitterFon- for iPhone Users. An easy to use tool built into your phone. This one freezes less and has great capabilities. Auto posts to Twitpic (a great, easy way to share pics on Twitter). It’s all you need! You can follow, unfollow directly from the app. You can also see DM’s and @replies easily. Links posted in tweets also come up very fast (much faster than through Safari).TwitterBerry- for BlackBerry Users. Although I am not one, this is the BlackBerry App I hear the most about. Take it from Puff Daddy.Networking: (aka finding more friends you WANT to follow)Find someone you enjoy reading and follow their followers. Another great way is to search for keywords and see who is tweeting about your favorite topics. Connect with them that way. There are websites such as Mr. Tweet who suggest who to follow based on formulas of some type, but I find the natural search works best. They are fun to check out though. You can also learn about the stars of twitter on the Top 100 List. Interesting…My top picks – who to follow:The most entertaining twitters are:@the_real_shaq – Shaquille O’Neal (Yes, THE Shaq. Funny!)@RevRunWisdom – Rev Run (Deep thoughts, refreshing ponderisms)@TheEllenShow – Ellen DeGenerous (Great ideas and fun info!)@iamdiddy – P Diddy (On a lot with uplifting and fun reads)@sumsei – Jet Magat (Enlightening concepts and entertainment at its best!)@tferriss – Timothy Ferriss (Author of 4 hour work week. Always interesting info.)@MichaelScott – The Office Character (I don’t even watch this show, but his posts are hilarious)@guykawasaki – Guy Kawasaki (Fun, interesting information, but a LOT of posts)@MACvPC – Mac vs. PC (Funny)How Many:Following: I found that following under 1,000 people was a little too slow for me. I am not on all that often, but when I log on, I like to see the flow moving. Some find it hard to be following so many people, but with the use of TweetDeck, you can keep up on all the things you want. Search YouTube for some videos on that.Followers: Once I hit 1,000 followers, the number of my followers increases much more quickly each day. It also allows more opportunity for response from your posts based on the chances of them being online at the same time.Ratios and Balance Baby: Everyone has their own taste here. Some like to follow as many as possible to get more followers. Some hardly follow anyone back. Some people like to keep a balance between followers and who they’re following. Feel what is right for you. Chances are it may change from time to time. I like to follow everyone back that follows me to keep it a mutual relationship, unless I find their tweets extremely annoying for some reason – which is rare.TwitterKarma is a great bulk follow/unfollow tool in which you can instantly even things out and only follow those that are following you, if desired. Or you can follow back everyone that is following you with a couple of clicks.ProductivityRSS Feed automatically from your blog to Twitter. This application automatically posts your blog posts as a tweet on Twitter. Great for sharing what you’re writing without any maintenance. I am writing an article to share more about fun with feeds and will post when it’s ready.Search, Tracking, & AlertsSearch the history of tweets for any keyword. Here you can also be alerted when people tweet about you or when your defined keywords are tweeted by selecting the options on the right after a search. You can be auto-notified via feed, if desired.Sync with FacebookFacebook is my second favorite social media and it has only gotten more fun with the integration of twitter status updates. Warning: this is only a good idea for those who don’t tweet too much. Otherwise, you overload Facebook with your excessive tweets. I’m one of these who tweets more than I like to post on Facebook, so I no longer integrate the two through Facebook. If you would like to set this up anyway, do this:In Facebook, add the Twitter application to allow auto posts of your twitter updates into Facebook. It may take a few minutes to go through or process once you’re done, but eventually works with a seamless feed.TweetDeck just added a new feature where you can post to Facebook as well. Love it! This is my top option while working on the computer as it’s fully integrated and most fun.For those who post more often, you may want to try this set up: I have another service through Ping.Fm which I use when I want my posts to go to both to Facebook and Twitter, while using my phone. Also works well from the internet if you’re not using TweetDeck. To post to Ping.Fm on your iPhone, use Nambu. Try BlackPing for BlackBerry. The Lingo@ – immediately followed by a user name is a mention. It links their profile by making it clickable and notifies them of your response.# – immediately followed by a word is a hashtag. It creates a search of that word when clicked. A popular example is #FollowFriday in which people recommend their favorite people to follow.DM – A direct, private messageRT – Re-Tweet (re-post of someone’s tweet)Too MuchThere are apps out there that allow auto-follows, auto-responders, special programs to tweet from your computer, tool bars for your web browser, and so much more. I find all these are unnecessary. People get irritated with the canned responses. And everything else I’ve looked at makes Twitter too much of high maintenance (AKA less fun). However, a quick search on “Twitter Tools” will bring up the infinite possibilities if you are interested. And you never know what new tools may actually be fun to use.Would love to hear your experience and your favorite apps for Twitter. Please post!Happy Tweeting!By Danielle Marie Crume@sumsette

Security Expert Top 5 Tips For Business Executives

Copyright (c) 2009 Dr Mark Yates

Whether we choose to admit it or not, the world we now live in is definitely not a safer place than it was 20 years ago. An online posting today from the British American Security Expert predicts the involvement of British troops in Afghanistan may be required for another 40 years. I’ll put politics to one side and focus on the ripple effect that statement causes across the world by outlining my top 5 security tips.

Security Expert Top 5 Tips #1 Speak With Your Mouth Shut

Every security expert will agree that most people talk too much. People give away so much information and data without even realising it. This stems from the fact that the highest percentage of people living on this planet exist in a full time state of what security experts call, ‘Condition White.’ This means they go through life in blissful ignorance of potential security and risk problems. Test this tip for yourself next time you are eating in a restaurant, or whenever you are in close enough proximity to hear other people’s conversations. You will be amazed at how much valuable information and intelligence they give out.

Imagine for one moment you are an organised criminal or a terrorist, and then you will understand how valuable that intelligence is.

Speak with your mouth shut is a professional bodyguard phrase coined by Dr. Mark D. British American Security Expert. In simple terms, it means to be very careful about how you talk, who you talk to, and who else can hear your conversation. The security expert advises all business executives that this top 5 security expert tip should also be maintained when conversing on the telephone, text, e-mail, social network sites and online blogs.

Security Expert Top 5 Tips #2 Access Control

When considering Top 5 Security Expert Tips for Business Executives from the security expert, every security expert knows that implementing great access control systems can significantly reduce your security risk. Quite simply if you make it difficult enough for someone to get close to you then chances are they will look elsewhere for a softer target. Access control is not confined to physical security products like barriers and Paxton door entry systems. It also relates to your personal communications. Many people have been unwittingly lulled into a false sense of security in relationship to the internet explosion of social media web sites like face book, Twitter and You Tube etc. For some strange reason normally sane people are posting valuable intelligence about themselves for the entire world to read.

Imagine Sara Jones from 12 Any Road, Anywhere, Any City etc posts a Blog on Twitter; “Oh my gosh! My entire family are stuck in Madrid airport and we’ve just been informed we can’t fly home until tomorrow.” Seems innocent enough doesn’t it? In fact it’s an organised criminal’s dream. Any IT Savvy Criminal can quickly establish where she lives; he can even print out a map to her house from Google maps. Hey ho, he knows they are all out of the country for a further day, so he can take his time to burgle her property.

Access control equals controlling your security risk.

Security Expert Top 5 Tips #3 Photocopy Everything in your Purse or Wallet

One of the first things promoted on security training courses by security experts is that you should take the time to photocopy every item of documentation in your purse or wallet as soon as you can get access to a photocopy machine. Completing this simple security expert tip will pay significant security dividends if ever your purse or wallet is stolen.

Take it as a given that every credit card, driving licence, store card, pin number, safe number, passport details, bank debit card in your purse or wallet offers significant value to a thief or fraudster. If you are targeted by pickpockets or opportunistic thieves then you need all the relevant data and information in an easy accessible place, (not your purse or wallet) so that you can call and put a stop on everything as soon as possible.

You will obviously need to secure these photocopies and it is wise not to let more than one other person know where this information is stored. The old saying of, “if more than two people know a secret, then it’s no longer a secret,” applies here.

Security Expert Top 5 Tips #4 Never Agree to Handle Anything for Someone You Don’t Personally Know

Business Executives are frequently targeted by professional smugglers belonging to organised crime gangs and terrorist organisations. The approach is very much the same as that used when targeting security naive young travellers overseas. Their initial approach is one of friendship and kindness, he or she will make a real fuss of you. They will maybe spoil you with free drinks, free excursions etc. The idea is to establish a friendship in the early stages of your business trip.

Towards the end of your business trip they will adhere to one of the following tactics.

1: He or she will ask you to deliver a package to one of their family members or friends back in your home country. You will be given some kind of hardship story to sway your opinion of transporting the package. Of course they inform you that the package is completely legal. Younger business executives are most likely to fall for this approach.

2: While you are distracted one of their accomplices will hide a package in your luggage case. You will be unaware of this until you are caught and arrested or until you clear customs in your home country.

Their accomplices will target you after you leave the airport. Every business executive and overseas traveller can fall victim to this approach.

If you think these two security breach scenarios are unlikely to happen, then think again. Every International security expert is aware of cases like this.

Simple solution to this is twofold. Don’t be taken in by new found friends, and always check your luggage prior to handing it in at the airport or shipping dock. If you have any suspicions inform law enforcement or customs immediately.

Security Expert Top 5 Tips #5 Trust Your Gut Reaction

Top 5 Security Expert Tips for Business Executives from the security expert finishes with trust your gut reaction. This may seem like a strange security tip but it is something which should not be overlooked. Security experts are aware of a phrase called the fight or flight syndrome. Quite simply this is your body’s natural defence mechanism which automatically kicks in every time we face some form of security danger or uncertainty. We don’t control this it is a sub conscious reaction which happens in a millisecond. For example: When you are confronted by an aggressive person your body prepares you to fight or gets you ready for flight. Your breathing alters, your heart rate increases, blood is diverted to your extremities, their hairs on the back of your neck stand up on end. Your vision reverts to tunnel vision, you experience auditory exclusion. Your entire focus is on the immediate threat before you. Most people fail to recognise that this fight or flight syndrome is our own built in security system, many think it is fear. Whereas international security experts understand this whatever decision you make is down to your gut reaction.

I’ve listened to many security experts from various global agencies listing the fight or flight syndrome and gut reaction as two of the most powerful security secrets in their armoury.

I hope you found my Top 5 Security Expert Tips for Business Executives from the security expert useful. Implement them into your daily routine and you will reduce your security risk.
