You would like to make money on the internet but don’t know where to begin. Before making a decision here are 6 things you should know before trying internet marketing.

1. If you search the internet to find suggestions, you will find the number of sites on internet marketing overwhelming. There are free sites and those that charge a one time or monthly fee. If you are not careful, you will end up spending money you might not have, and the results will be dismal.

2. It’s not for everyone. You will have to learn the basics and have, at least, a few hours a week to spend on development. You have to learn what internet marketing is all about. You must understand the whole process, including how to create a website. Just like any business, you will have to find uninterrupted time to work on developing and maintaining it.

3. You won’t make huge amounts of money immediately. Beware of promises of overnight success. In fact, some marketers make little or no money at all. It can take anywhere from a few months to a year or more before you earn anything. So, don’t quit your day job. Your internet marketing business will also depend on what you have to offer. Is there an interest out there for what you are promoting?

4. While you don’t need to initially invest a lot of money, you cannot become a marketer on a zero dollar budget. You don’t need your own website. There are sites and affiliates that will supply you with a web page, but you do need a domain name and a hosting company. You will also need an account manager.

Your domain name is what people click on to get to your website. You can get a domain name for about a year.
A hosting company is needed to get your site online. Hosting can be found for as little as per month. There are, however, sites which offer free hosting with membership.
An account manager lets you create opt-in forms, automatically sends out e-mails, newsletters and more, with a cost of about per month.

5. If you are new to internet marketing you will have to find a niche, something you have expertise in. Once you find a niche, you have to narrow it down to your particular interest. You can then explore affiliate marketing and article writing. Eventually, you will need to build a website. You can have someone build it for you, but that will cost money. On the other hand, there are websites where you can get free templates to build your own site. You cannot take shortcuts. However, once you start, it is possible to build sites that generate income.

6. No matter whether you choose your own website or someone else’s squeeze page (a one page website developed by someone else that you are allowed to use and promote) you will need to learn how to drive traffic to your site in order to make money. It’s almost impossible to make money online without having people sign on to your list. You will also have to learn to write articles, blog, twitter and participate in online discussion forums.

These are the 6 things you should know before trying internet marketing. It is continually growing. The end is not in sight. Understanding internet marketing and making an informed decision can bring you the satisfaction of being independent, but only after you learn, understand and apply your knowledge.
