Facebook Fan Pages
Facebook Fan Pages
Everyone is going crazy about the facebook pages! I mean to be honest I never really thought about decorating our facebook fan page until someone asked for my help to do theirs today. I just feel like it’s best to give minimal information then send them off to the real stuff (which is at your website). That’s my personal opinion, but then today I started to get into decorating our facebook. There are a few really cool applications for fan pages for businesses that I think is useful. Below are some tips and applications I think will be useful to those who are planning to create a fan page or fix theirs up.
1. If you have a blog (if not I highly recommend getting one as soon as possible), connect the RSS feed in through your facebook. This will allow facebook to publish your feed without having to post it yourself. You want to try and get your content to as many places as possible and this is a great way.
How To Do This: Go to your fan page, click edit page on the left (under your picture), then go to the notes application (should already be there if not go to more applications and add that app to your page). On the right hand side click on ‘Edit Import Settings’, then just add your blog feed!
2. Another cool new feature is that you are now able to connect your facebook and twitter. This will save you time so you only have to post on one social networking site rather then two!
How To Do This: search for the twitter application in the search bar. On the left hand side click Add To Page. Then go to your settings and sign into twitter and allow the application.
3. Some of these fan pages have additional pages that will allow you to insert HTML. This is useful if you want to add pages about your company, updates on a content, etc. The best application that I have found is fbml. It allows you just add multiple pages and insert whatever content you want.
How To Do This: Go to the search bar and search for fbml. Then on find static fbml. Once you click on that you will see add to page on the left hand side (under the photo). Then go back to your fan page and go to edit page. Find the static page and click edit. Edit it to how you want it! Something that I found a little tricky was how to add more. What you have to do is go back to one of the Old pages you created with fbml and click add new page on the bottom. You will have to also store all your photos on an outside server (you might want to get a graphic designer & web designer involved)
4. A cool app for videos is Posted Items Pro. This will allow you to embed multiple videos from youtube, yahoo, and google videos onto your facebook page.
How To Do This: Go to your facebook fan page, click on edit page (under picture), then go to add applications and search for Posted Items Pro
5. It’s important to find a way to get people to go to your facebook fan page. Setting up a contest, survey, giveaway, etc is a good way to get people. You will need to get a big fan base so place your facebook links on your website.
Now the argument is wither facebook or twitter is better. Honestly they are both two completely different applications and I feel that they both have their own parts. Facebook will be able to give you more information then twitter, however twitter easier to get followers that aren’t part of your group of friends, family, coworkers, etc. So in the end I think they are both important!
7 Ways For Your Music to Get More Listeners
7 Ways For Your Music to Get More Listeners
Are you a band interested in gaining some more exposure? Well I’m sure you’re doing a couple of these things at the moment, but to be gaining fans and getting more listeners of your music there are 7 tips to give you a hand!
1/ A Myspace Account
This is a MUST for any band or musician, myspace has become the tool. You don’t even need a website any more, just a myspace with your songs uploaded , perhaps some pictures as well.
2/ Gig Gig Gig
Yeah so you may think you’re the next Guns n Roses, but you’ve got to gig everywhere and anywhere you can. A promoter once told me that “there are so many bands around now, so it’s sometimes impossible to pull out the needle from the haystack”. Gig your ass off, gain some followers, have CDs to sell at gigs and flyers with your myspace page on it.
3/ Youtube
Link your myspace with a youtube account. Put up some videos of you at venues (get a friend to record you with a cheap camera if nothing else), and record yourself doing an acoustic song in front of your PC as a sort of special song for the fans. This can help to gain fans and exposure, as well as keeping your current fans sweet.
4/ Contact Unsigned Bands Sites
There are lots of websites out there to help Unsigned Bands. Just search for unsigned bands in google and have a little look through (don’t just click on the first one or two! – have a proper dig through and see what the sites have to offer). Doing this can find competitions, opportunities and more.
A lot of Music mag websites also feature unsigned bands as well, so that’s also something to try.
5/ Enter Competitions
There are so many competitions out there for unsigned bands. A lot of them are even done via the net. Many of them may not seen like huge deals, but they will offer more exposure and some offer radio play as a reward. You can find these again by searching google or using social sites such as twitter to listen out for things.
6/ Use Twitter and Tweetdeck
Make a twitter account and then set up searches for “your band name” “music your location” – eg “killers” “music london” and similar searches like “bands london”, “unsigned bands”. Leave tweetdeck on in the background and whenever somebody posts anything with those keywords, you will be able to view it. Twitter is becoming more and more popular and this is a great way to find local venues that wants bands, music sites, or competitions. It’s also a good way of seeing if anybody is talking about you and what they have to say.
7/ The Radio
So you may not be able to instantly get your music played on the radio, but that is the aim. Air play = more fans = more money. That is the basic principle of air time and why it works so well.
BBC Introducing is a great avenue to try and use, although it can be difficult to get played. Internet radio stations can be listened to by tens of thousands of people as well, so get in touch with them and ask them to play your track – most of them will.
So there are my 7 top tips for musicians looking for a little bit of extra exposure. I hope you enjoyed and please keep checking back for more articles in the future.

Making Yourself More Trustworthy, Knowledgeable And Likeable With Your Online Presence
Making Yourself More Trustworthy, Knowledgeable And Likeable With Your Online Presence
Online Trust is paramount to success if your primary customer base comes from doingbusiness online. Here are some tips from Hal Wilkerson on how to shore up and reinforce that trust.
1. Enhance your Amazon.com Online profile
I’ve referenced this before, but just having this history of books that you have read, reviews you’ve placed, things you’ve liked or disliked, just serves as one more reason for people to like you. Who knows, this simple act could help you make a connection over a common interest that someone that you may have never even considered otherwise.
2. Follow up on all FaceBook posts or @mentions on Twitter
If someone takes the time to mention you or post on your status or photo- take the time to respond to them- you’ll be amazed what kind of loyalty that will build. An offline example, and much more personal as well, is to go to Office Depot or Office Max, go to their printing section, and order some high-quality card stock stationary that has your name printed across the top of it. Then go to the post office and spend bucks on 100 ‘forever’ stamps. Put these in your desk drawer and when you make a meaningful connection, take 3 minutes, hand write a nice thank you, or note of encouragement on your stationary, and put it in the mail. It’s simple, yet highly effective. People respond to a personal touch. Don’t forsake your ‘real life’ image when you are building your ‘online’ one. I know this may be odd to have this here, but think about the last time you got a personal note in the mail. Isn’t it better getting something personal, rather than a bill or some marketing flyer in the mail? The same goes with FaceBook and Twitter… in addition to the personalized stationary. Make sure you get the nice cardstock stationary… don’t scrimp on this, because this card, and its quality, as well as the personal note from you reflects who you are.. If you have a card for your business, obviously, include this in the envelope.
3. Have fun, and don’t take yourself too seriously
Need I say more? Remember, the Internet is a place filled with people… and people like to have fun. One thing I try and do every morning is post a #turnitup video to my blog and link to it on Twitter. I make it an upbeat fun song that I find on YouTube. There are tons of good, quality videos on YouTube, and remember the more links in and out of your website, the higher page rank it will receive from almighty Google. Make sure your music video is in HD at a minimum… unless it’s just a really old school one that you want to put out there, like say some good ole’ Bon Jovi or maybe some Creedence Clearwater original concert footage.
4. Use an iPhone or Flip Video Recorder to record daily thoughts or tips about your business or subject matter of interest.
Some folks are more comfortable doing this than others. If you aren’t comfortable talking on camera, practice, practice, practice. The great thing about digital video is that it is so easy just to hit the delete button if you aren’t happy with it. Another great thing about digital video is that it is so, so, SO easy to distribute it today. YouTube, Vimeo, Google Video, FaceBook Video… there are literally countless outlets to put your videos out. I’d focus on the big ones though. YouTube is pretty much the accepted standard. Spend some time developing your YouTube ‘Channel’ so that all of your videos are in one place. YouTube is another great spot to let people see what you are all about and develop a history with your posts. By the way, I learned today that the second most popular search engine is now YouTube. If you aren’t on YouTube, you are missing a tremendous amount of traffic to your site.
I try and do a video update on a daily basis, and I typically do it while I’m driving. I don’t know why, I just find I’m able to talk better when I’m doing something else. I get a lot of traction on my website though, the visit time is pretty good and bounce rate is actually fairly low. A no-brainer about video on your site is that it translates to a longer visit time because people do like to watch video. And more time on your site equals more opportunities to pick up a lead. if what you are saying is helpful and relevant, then people will watch it.
6. Be honest, forthcoming and authentic in all articles, posts or anything that is attached to your name.
You are branding YOU. People buy from people they trust. Be trustworthy. Remember that it is of utmost importance to maintain your integrity in your online presence. Remember, regardless of the medium, the message that you put out must be the same. Internet Marketing has gotten somewhat of a bad name in it’s infancy because of so many ‘enhance this body part’ or ‘buy this blue pill’ or whatever ads. Those are just spammers who are trying to capitalize on unsuspecting, unaware consumers who may fail to recognize spam when they see it. I can’t emphasize enough… be honest, for surely you will be found out. Integrity is so critical in this business, especially given that it is a relatively unregulated industry at this time. The moment your integrity comes in to question is the moment you will begin losing business. Don’t break your audiences trust.
7. Build an email list
Create an ‘opt in’ form on your website that enables readers to input their email address and continue hearing from you. There are many mass mail service providers out there that provide a template for doing just this. The more people you have on your email list, the better. Mail Chimp, iContact and aWeber are just three great examples of services that are well worth their investment. Email marketing has one of the Highest ROI’s of any other medium on the Internet. The bigger your list, the bigger your influence, the better positioned you are to capitalize on opportunities from this. However… more than just having a list is building a relationship… which leads to number 8…
8. Create an email newsletter.
People read your stuff. And people want to be communicated with. They gave you their email address for a reason… now use it! Don’t make your newsletters overly long, don’t make them overly detailed. Just pick a few topics and write succinctly and be engaging. If you aren’t good at writing, try making a recording of what you say and then transcribe it. If that doesn’t work, try making a video and then do the same… and if that still doesn’t work, go on http://elance.com and hire someone to do it for you. The most important thing though is to begin communicating in a professional, sharp manner that will draw professional, sharp individuals to you. The higher the quality of your newsletter the higher the quality of your image, which in my business translates to a higher quality of lead.
OK, I’m on a roll here, lets make it 9…
9. Publish that newsletter regularly.
Now, just because you’ve got that list, and you’ve sent out an email, doesn’t mean you just do it once and forget about it. You need to stay engaged. Create a drip, drip, drip of data coming from you. If you want to set it and forget it, you can design a handful of emails and then have services like the mail companies I mentioned above deliver them automatically over time. Isn’t the Internet wonderful?
Alright, I might as well make it a nice even 10…
10. Respect and communicate with your email list with useful, relevant Information.
Just because you have a list of emails of people that are interested in you, doesn’t mean you get to send them annoying emails every day. Have you ever gotten on a list from someone like that… and after a while you were like SHEESH! UNSUBSCRIBE!! It’s happened to me occasionally. But companies that have understood the power of drip marketing that an email campaign can provide reap huge dividends. And you can do the same. However, it’s a fine balance. If you do it too much, your unsubscribe rate will increase, if you don’t do it enough, you may not be harvesting any leads from your list. I err on the side of less is more. But not too less.
Well, that’s my 8, er 10 ways to get people to know you, trust you and like you before they do business with you on the Internet. A lot of these rules apply to offline business too, but with the Internet, technology becomes your servant, and you will find yourself being 100% more effective utilizing some of the above tips in your business.

How To Get Quality Traffic To Your Blog
How To Get Quality Traffic To Your Blog
I think it is fair to say that the most important aspect about blogging is the content you write agreed?, well thats all well and done, but what if you have spent 6 hours carefully crafting a unique and wonderful post only for it to languish in the archives of your blog because you have little or no traffic coming to see it, depressing isn’t it?
Getting quality targeted traffic to your blog is not difficult, it just takes time, effort and patience. Follow my advice and you will start to see results quickly.
1. Optimise you blog for serch engines
If you have wordpress as your platform you will already be one step ahead of the competition, as wordpress is the most advanced and ready out of the box platform as far as SEO is concerned, but either way you can make changes to any platform to make search engines love you. First you should get a sitemap installed, this helps search engines like google index your site and helps them understand what your site is about.
Also you should change the permalink set up so that your post urls are set up like this http://www.yoursite.com/category/date/posttitle by default it looks like this http://www.yoursite.com/p=43 this is not good for search engines at all, you can find instructions on how to do this on the web, there are tons of tutorials.
You should also make sure to tag your posts with good keywords that match what the potential reader might be looking for in order to get to your post.
2. Twitter
twitter is one of the most powerful marketing tools on the web, you can get bunches of traffic from there if you do it right. You should invest some time in a custom made background, this sets you apart from the rest and makes you stand out. To get targeted followers you can go to other well established sites profiles in your niche and follow their followers, this is good to start you off but you shouldn’t do this forever, once you get to a few thousand followers people will start following you on their own accord, when this happens make sure you follow them back!
Don’t just use twitter to re tweet your posts you will fail to get traffic this way, engage with your followers and talk with them, ask questions, crack jokes and chat away, set aside an hour a day just for twitter, trust me it is worth the time and investment.
3. Stumbleupon
Stumbleupon is another great tool to market your blog but again you need to do it right, start off for the first few months submitting other peoples content NOT YOUR OWN, build up a nice subscriber base by finding other stumblers interested in your chosen topics, follow them and they will most likely follow you back, only after a few months should you start submitting your own articles and posts.
4. Digg
Digg can be very difficult to get on the front page, if your blog is about technology, Apple, Barack Obama, Bill Gates, or politics then you have a good chance of getting on the front page, which will result in a shed load of traffic, if you don’t have a blog of this sort then you will find it more difficult….but by no means impossible. Like stumbleupon you should begin by submitting stories from other sites not your own, start adding friends with likeminded interests, comment on their diggs and digg their stories and they will then return the favour. After a few months then you can start submitting your stories, or better still ask your friends to submit them for you, you will get more exposure that way. Digg does require more effort and time than twitter and stumbleupon but can still be worth it.
5. Content content content!
By far the most important way to get traffic to your blog is content, and that should be your number one priority, concentrate on creating unique and diverse posts on your chosen subject and keep plugging at it, don’t give up! If you write informative and useful content google will love you for it and will send you more traffic as time goes on. Remember it takes a long time to get thousands of visitors a day, it won’t happen over night! but stick to your guns and you will reap the rewards.

Heard About The Buzz?
Heard About The Buzz?
Many people have been a “Buzz” recently over Google’s newest attempt at social networking. Envious of the success of other social networks such as Twitter and Facebook, Google has so far been unsuccessful at breaking into the social aspect of web communication. According to TechCrunch, Google Buzz is basically, “elements of Twitter, Yammer, Foursquare, Yelp, and other social services… together into one package. Now imagine covering that package in a layer that looks a lot like FriendFeed. Now imagine shoving that package inside of Gmail. That’s Buzz.”
Will Buzz be able to become as popular as Twitter and Facebook? Only time will tell, but some early critique of the interface has surfaced on Twitter. Comments such as: “Did they just make Google Buzz Mute more annoying by providing a dialog box?” “I am getting really sick of the nasty porn spam that’s invaded my gmail since I tried out Google Buzz on the day of its release. Coincidence?” Or “Please Google Buzz, help me like you.” Jeff Commaroto of Tipping Point Media summed up Buzz this way, “in short, if you want to add yet another social media account to your life or are a lover of GMail who wants to integration across platforms, go for Buzz. If you are already doing too much and don’t want to waste time on something people may simply stop caring about in a year, wait and see.”
TechCrunch posted some thoughts on why they think Google is promoting Buzz. “Google still wants to buy Twitter, and putting Buzz into Gmail might be enough of a threat to bring Twitter back to the table.” Social media has become a popular way to share content online and Google as the superpower of web searches wants in on that traffic. “While Google doesn’t benefit directly from that traffic (yet), simply knowing what links people are sharing and clicking on is valuable data which can help it improve its search results.”
Although there has been much critiquing of Buzz, some people see it as a positive development. Tanisha Sakhawat of Vertical Leap points out that Buzz does not use no-follow links which is of interest and use to companies. “The nofollowdevelopments attribute backfired for Google as they can’t index most links these days.” Said Tad Chef, a SEO professional. Vertical Leap also praised Buzz for “a third party application called buzzy.com, which is integrated into the [Buzz] homepage, which can be used for keyword research.”

What on earth is test marketing and social media optimization?
Social media or social media optimization is the utilization of the information which is gathered from social communities for marketing purposes.

This is also good opportunity for the CEO of a company to get in touch with his clients, so that he knows exactly what they feel about his services and products.
This example can be seen very clearly in the case of Kmart. If Kmart had gone on to such social media websites, they would not have been the joke they are today, with their market standing not very creditable. That is the reason why, a number of farseeing companies are keeping a careful E upon the needs and wants of the consumer. You would want to do the same if you want to be really successful.

Using Microblogging For Marketing Success
Using Microblogging For Marketing Success
The social marketing tool, Twitter is one of the latest and greatest Web 2.0 tools out there. People who join this social networking microblogging tool often become so addicted that they use it constantly. They have it on their computer as well as on their cell phone and they spend hours on it having discussions and “tweeting” with others. This makes the tool ideal for those who want to sell something online. Internet marketers love social media tools for the potential new clients they can bring.
But there are myths associated with this tool that those who want to use it for internet marketing need to know. Here are three popular misconceptions about using Twitter to sell your ware.
Myth #1: Everyone who follows you will click your link.
Myth #2: The More People You Follow, the Better
Myth #3: Controversy Is Good
Myth # 1. Not everyone will follow you. You can target people by looking up people with specific keywords but you have to appear to be interesting in order to get followed. If your username or bio look too spammy, people won’t be interested.
People often look at the quality of someone’s tweets before they do follow them so keep that in mind and if you’ve been using Twitter for a while look at the last ten tweets you have posted and consider whether you appear follow-worthy to potential followers or not.
Myth#2: You might think that following a large number of users is a wise decision but when you look at your profile and see that you have a handful of followers but are following hundreds or thousands of other Twitter users, you won’t look very appealing. Striving for a balance of having more people follow you than you are following makes you look Twitter worthy to potential followers.
Myth #3: Controversy might get you a bunch of people visiting your regular blog because people often want to see a good flame war but on Twitter, it gets old real fast. If you start getting too opinionated or too political, people will tire of your tweets really fast. Those who pump out too many social bookmarking requests or don’t appear to be willing to participate but want people following them instead will appear to be a selfish twitterer. You also don’t want to be too brash on this tool or you’ll see your follower numbers quickly dwindle.
Twitter is a great tool to get noticed. If you’re interesting, people will re-tweet your tweets and follow your requests for a Stumble or Digg. If you integrate it with other social bookmarking tools it can also make it more interesting for your followers as well.
The thing with Twitter is that you want to be followed and so you need to be follow-worthy. Be interesting, provide value and reciprocate. Be funny, witty, charming and you can even be sarcastic or silly once in a while but strive for a balance that makes you interesting enough to keep following. Just like a friend’s antics can get old real fast in the real world, a Twitter friend can get tiring as well if they do too much of one thing and not enough of just being interesting or entertaining.
For marketers who strike the right balance on this tool, they can get more buyers, sell more widgets, learn more interesting tips in their industry and maximise their social marketing experience so that it does benefit them but those that try to cheat the system or exploit it won’t have much effect for long.
