With the glut of web designers, web hosting companies, developer’s and blog writers today offering SEO services you’d wonder if there was any difficulty in this sphere at all. Search engine optimization or SEO as it’s called is an art/science and mastering high performance SEO is something that a person must have an aptitude for. If you’re considering hiring someone to help your business gain significant visibility on search engine search results, you’re best to choose a firm with proven performance and depth of understanding. From keyword strategy to analytics, a professional SEO Company adds value every step of the way for significantly better performance and results.

 Why Hire a Professional SEO Company?

 On several occasions in the last year, I’ve had the privilege of having my client’s search engine optimization critiqued by other so called search engine optimizers.  Such is life as an SEO consultant, particularly in corporate circles where search engine optimization is seen as something completely foreign to the usual online marketing. Many times, corporate marketing people are not familiar with search engine indexing needs or about keyword relevance. Therefore, anything an SEO does may be viewed with scepticism.

 Having your work criticized by a rank amateur who has barely any experience in the business can be annoying. There are tens of thousands of online companies and individuals now offering so called SEO services. Most don’t have the foggiest idea of indexing algorithms and expect to get results from tips they’ve gotten off of forums and webmaster sites. It’s interesting that although I can design websites, I don’t call myself a web designer or web design expert. If I did, I suspect most intelligent people would question that expertise. Yet, because so little is known about SEO and how it is planned, strategized and implemented, these tens of thousands of pretenders can get away with portraying themselves as SEO experts. Why would so many cautious and extensively trained business people use such poor judgement in hiring a web design enthusiast who calls himself an SEO expert?

 Performance Speaks

 The best proof of expertise is a long list of a variety of websites that are drawing significant traffic via search engines. In three years, we brought them from 100k search engine referrals per month to 280,000 per month. The end revenue was in the tens of millions of dollars making their online marketing staff look brilliant. Did management care? No, they just took it for granted that it was their underlings who made it happen. Then again, maybe the underlings themselves didn’t get recognition they deserved. They just pass the disrespect down the line. As an outside consultant you get “dissed” and your accomplishments seem like a bad choice. This is what can happen when you allow a company to pretend there is nothing to the process of search engine optimization.  In this case, I really didn’t get to apply all the potential of SEO. When you work with some clients, your hands will be tied and you have to make do with a bad situation (namely a website that is poorly designed, and a lack of SEO budget). But I guess we’ve all been there.

 I’ve seen the takeaway approach used by Indian SEO companies. When they’re let go, they take away everything they created for a client. I could do the same thing. My former clients, even the ’s of millions clients would collapse. But as professional, I don’t do things like that. The client paid for that value and it’s theirs. I don’t take back things that don’t belong to me.

 The plight of an SEO company is a strange one though. In any other area of business, intense scrutiny would be placed on a supply of services with proof of performance required. Yet many web design companies try to take on the role of search engine optimization and they fail badly. I’ve seen this so many times. Of course, that’s when the company CEO or marketing manager calls Bay Street SEO. That’s when things start happening and they begin to realize the power of search engine marketing. If you’re webmaster or Indian programmer, you should stick to your knitting. Offering SEO services as a carrot to get the big deal, or to ensure you can redirect funds of SEO for web design or expensive web development projects is nothing more than fraud.

 I’ve witnessed a number of so called SEO companies authorizing big scale web designs and web development projects with all the bells and whistles, which were actually preventing the web site from achieving rankings and traffic. I get to see this because companies ask me why the site isn’t working. The web designer or Indian programmer shouldn’t have promised rankings and traffic. Adding keywords to meta tags and getting useless link exchanges isn’t what SEO is about. Search engines have far beyond such keyword stuffing approaches.

 The better web design companies have the courage to tell their clients the truth. That they need a legitimate SEO specialist to create an original solution that will work to generate significant traffic. If it’s not going to generate plenty of traffic on targeted keyphrases, then it’s not worth doing. Who gets rich on a small trickle of traffic to their website?

 If you’re hiring a Toronto SEO Company firm or Los Angeles SEO firm, check out what they’ve accomplished and ask about end results. Ask them to show you examples of indepth optimization and SEO strategies. Ask them to show the body of work they’ve done on one of their clients’ sites. SEO has nothing to do with web design.

 If a web designer or programmer says he’s an SEO expert, it’s time you put them in their place. If they say they’re a brain surgeon or an Olympic Gold winner, ask to see their patients or gold medals.

 If your webmaster or web design company exaggerates now, they’ll be continually exaggerating every failure from here on in and if they didn’t earn it, they make take it back from you when you let them go.
