Once the website is constructed the webmaster spends much time anxiously trying to acquire as many links as possible for his website. This can be either one way links or reciprocal links. Today much importance and priority is given to one way links because there are several advantages in having these links as compared to reciprocal links. The ultimate success of an online business depends on the amount of targeted traffic the website is able to generate and hence the importance of these back links.

One way link is a link pointing to your website from another website. You do not have to link back to that website. In other words you need not reciprocate as in the case of a reciprocal link. This indicates to the search engine that your content is compelling enough that other websites will link to your site without getting anything in return for it.

The great benefit of the one-way link is that it improves the search engine ranking, your page rank and link popularity. It is important to note that search engines do not consider all one way links as equal. To obtain substantial credit these back links have to be from theme related or relevant websites. If it is from a relevant site with a high page rank it adds further credibility to your website. If there are more such links to your website, search engines will consider your site as an Authority Site and place it high up in the search results. In fact it is the quality and relevance of the website that links to your site that really matters.

The best method of obtaining one way links is to write articles and submit them to article directories and relevant websites. Here provision is provided to place a link to your website. When the link is placed in the resource box, it is advisable to have the URL as an anchor text with the main keyword or keyword phrase embedded in the anchor text. This anchor text helps the search engines to identify what your website is all about.

There are of course several other ways of obtaining one way links to your site such as submitting your website to web directories that do not insist on a reciprocal link, leaving useful comments in relevant blogs and participating in forums where you can leave your signature with a link to your website.

All these back links play a very vital role in ensuring the success of your online business. These links placed in relevant article directories, web directories, blogs and forums will start generating a stream of continuous targeted traffic in addition to the targeted traffic from the search engines. These visitors arrive at your website because they are interested in you, your website and what you have to offer. Quite a few could end up as your customers and this is what this whole exercise is about.

Acquiring quality relevant one way links is the secret behind the success of many online businesses. With patience and effort you too can acquire these back links and ensure the success of your online business.
