Many people will talk about the importance of link building as a means of boosting a website’s presence in the rankings of the search engine. While it is true that you need to engage in link building to improve the ranking, it is also necessary to point out that “any old” link simply will not do. Why is this? What is wrong with reciprocal linking strategies such as trades or directory inclusions? Well, there is nothing “wrong” with the strategy per se. You can gain some value from reciprocal links but the value will come at a watered down price.

What does this mean? It is necessary to never lose site of the fact that each and every link that is placed on the internet acts as a vote for your website. One way links are a common way that the popularity of a site is determined. The search engines infer that if a series of links are placed on websites without any reciprocal agreement, then the site must be an important one. After all, look at all the sites that need to reference it. As a result, the ranking of the site will be reflected in a more positive manner.

When it comes to link trades and other reciprocal agreements, the search engines look at such links and (rightfully) determine that the links are the result of two websites trying to promote each other. Since such an arrangement exists, the search engines will somewhat look down on the value of the links. The links will not be outright dismissed but they will not count as much.

And then this is the laborious process involved with this link building strategy. Do you want to spend hours of time trying to set up link trades that really do not deliver much value? Rather than travel that route, it would be wiser to explore options for one way links.

Buying one way links is a strategy more and more people are exploring. The reasons for this are fairly obvious: the strategy is both cost and time effective. That means anyone looking to raise their site’s numerical ranking in the search engine can have such goals achieved relatively easily.

If you want traffic from the search engines, building one way links is of paramount importance. There is no way around this and that is why the strategy remains so highly recommended.
