AdWords Account Suspended | SEO Traffic Spider

AdWords Account Suspended | SEO Traffic Spider

In the last couple of days many Google AdWords accounts have been suspended. Most of the AdWords customers are wondering as to why their accounts are suspended. All that the Google’s AdWords customer receives is an email from the Google AdWords Team stating that your account has been suspended and your advertisements will not run in Google. The reason being non compliance with Google’s terms of service and advertising policies. Have you received one such email from the Google’s Team?

These accounts that are suspended are mostly from customers who are either new to AdWords or have outsourced their AdWords Optimization to third parties to do so.

The problem faced in such situations creates a bad experience for the AdWords customers and an additional burden to Google AdWords reviewers. However, who is responsible for such things. Let’s take a closer look at each of these 2 cases and understand what happens and how problems can be prevented.

Many customers who are new to AdWords are unaware of Google’s Policies and Terms and Conditions that they need to adhere to while setting up their accounts. Google’s Help Center does provide all the necessary information for the new customers but many of them ignore it and just get started right away. They start with the AdWords account creation by creating the new campaigns, ad groups, and stuffing a huge list of keywords. The next thing that happens is a good amount of money is spent as a daily budget and then one fine day one is shocked with an email that their account is suspended.

On the other hand, many customers who want to use AdWords and do not know how to use it outsource it to third party providers. These providers are contacted through any project bidding site. There these customers post their requirements and set a budget that they think they can afford. Many of the providers bid on those projects. Some providers bid as low as for a project that is worth 0. Looking at the affordable price many customers award these AdWords projects to these providers. End result, in most cases dissatisfaction!

After a few days the AdWords customer gets very disappointed and posts a negative remark against the provider in the project bidding system. And then after a few days their account also gets suspended.

So what would be the solution to prevent such situations from occurring? The solution lies in searching for a good provider who has the necessary credentials for optimizing an AdWords account.

Ask your provider if they are GAP certified? GAP stands for Google AdWords Professional. This certification is only awarded when a person writes an online exam and is well versed with the Google Policies and Terms and Conditions? Find out if your provider has any hands on experience in optimizing Google AdWords accounts? For how long has your provider been optimizing Google AdWords accounts? Has your provider hired any staff from Google? How will they go about optimizing the Google AdWords account? Most important of all is whether the provider offers to take a look at your account to understand what needs to be optimized or just jumps into the project to earn money regardless of the fact that the account needs an initial diagnosis and study.

You may also come across instances where your account is permanently suspended and even if you try opening a new account with different information, you are likely to get suspended again. The reason being Google having a well built out system to track the advertiser through various means.

So, in this scenario you will not be able to use Google paid advertising which could have got you that instant traffic and conversions. But don’t let this disappoint you. You still stand a good chance to advertise on Google – but this time it’s not AdWords but through organic search. Yes, this is one area where you can promote your website through SEO (search engine optimization) and show on top of the search results of Google.

There are unlimited opportunities waiting for you and it is up to you to decide if you want to cry over lost AdWords opportunity or to venture out for more opportunities using SEO and hitting on top of the search engines.

Most of us will always like to make the optimum use of our hard-earned money. But what is the use if you can’t reap the benefits of your investment. In most cases, low priced services do not offer the best quality. They are low priced because the quality is compromised. Hire the right person and pay the right price for your Google AdWords optimization and prevent your account from being suspended or if you are unable to advertise through AdWords, then have the best SEO Company to promote your website and rank you on top in the search engines.

The choice is now in your hands!

Yahoo Search Marketing Security Breach! Seriously– Check Your Account NOW!

Yahoo Search Marketing Security Breach! Seriously– Check Your Account NOW!

YAHOO Customer Care– Does Not Care! Imagine coming home after being to a movie, or out shopping, and as you turn the corner that leads down your street to your home, you see a strange vehicle in your driveway– a moving van! As you get closer you see a man who is built like a football linebacker carrying out your belongings to the van. He is a very large man, so you obviously do not want a personal confrontation. So you pull over, across the street from your home, and call 911. When the call is answered, you are confronted with an automated recording asking you what department you would like to reach. But none of the choices you are presented with offer any help from your home being burglarized. So you hit the number that represents “neighborhood relations” in hopes that you can speak to a real person to explain the emergency that is taking place right in front of your eyes.

You are then asked for your name and your address, so the automated operator can verify that you live at that address, I assume. After punching in the obligatory numbers that represent this information, the recording responds that, not only don’t you exist… but neither does your home address exist! You try again, and again, and get the same response from this bloodless, non-caring automated recording. Then finally, after re-entering the same information a couple of more times, you get confirmation that yes… you do exist, and so does your address. You think to yourself, finally– I can give the emergency information to a living, breathing person. But no… you are told to email the police Customer Care Department, (see where this is going?), with what your problem is, now that they know that you are real; and someone will get back to you within twenty-four hours.

Since this is an emergency, you know that will do little good, so you hang up. In the meantime, this guy who’s built like a football linebacker, is walking down your driveway, and lifting your safe, which is filled with your money and jewelry, into the van. You freak out, and call Information for another phone number to reach the police department. You are given three numbers. You dial them all and they have all been disconnected! You start to wonder if there even is a police department anymore. Has some group of “foreign football linebackers” come in and taken over the city?

You glance over at your home, and now the “foreign football linebacker” is emptying your neighbor’s home of valuables! You phone them to warn them, but they don’t answer their phone. You are not given an opportunity to leave a message for them, as they don’t have an answering machine. What if they come home and unknowingly are confronted with this “foreign football linebacker”? There is nothing else you can do for them except tell the police.

You desperately try other phone numbers to reach the police department, and speak to a number of different departments–each one forwarding you to yet another department. You tell them what is presently happening, and that it is an emergency, and they respond with, “I’m so sorry to hear that”, but they can’t help you.

You finally reach another living, breathing human being, and explain what is happening– that these “foreign football linebackers” are now emptying yet another neighbor’s home. You are once again told that they are “so sorry to hear that”, but they can’t help, and that it is a “security” problem. No kidding! You begin to imagine that what seems like living, breathing human beings on the phone are actually robots that were programmed to be, “so sorry to hear that”.

You ask this new robot for the phone number of the “Security Department”. The response– “Oh, the Security Department doesn’t have their own phone number”. Then, “you’ll have to email them and they will get back to you within twenty-four hours”. You hang up and turn away from your computer terminal in disgust. The calendar on your office wall catches your eye. It’s September tenth. Could it be a conspiracy that will come to fruition on 911, yet again? Have you been drawn in early to some computer take-over with an army of “foreign football linebackers”!

You ask the next person who answers your call to be put through via an internal line to the Security Department, after explaining once more that your home and that of your neighbors’, is being emptied by some “foreign football linebacker”. They can’t do that, but will put you through to someone else who can help you, if you are willing to hold for a minute. You hear a “click”, and another recording comes on telling you that your call is in line, and that there will be at least a ten-minute wait. As is their hope and design, you hang up.

Back to The Real World: I finally dial the last of some half a dozen numbers for Yahoo. It’s their Yahoo Media Relations phone number found through a Google search. Surely someone will be there– even if it is 5:15 pm PST, and 8:15 pm local time.

After hearing the ring on the other end of the phone answered, it turns out to be a recorded message from the same– Customer Care Department. “Would you please provide your name and address, so that we may help you?” After providing the information yet one more time, it is acknowledged that I do exist, and that I should email Customer Care with my problem and that someone will get back to me within twenty-four hours. I yell into the phone that I need to speak to a living, breathing soul, knowing that there is no one there to respond. I hear a click and a dial tone.

Over three hours have now passed. I’ve worked through dinner, and my wife is as upset as I am at this point. So I decide to send Yahoo Customer Care an email. It goes like this:

My Email to Yahoo Customer Care: My account has been compromised! There have been changes to my account regarding daily spend limits and average monthly spending that I did not make. There have been unauthorized withdrawals from my PayPal account of ,000 into my Yahoo Search Marketing account. There have been people added to my account with their credit card numbers and other information listed. One is Ken —-, Pittsburgh, PA (VISA). And there was another person from out west, Oklahoma I believe, whose information I didn’t print out while I still had access to my account. This, after receiving emails from Yahoo on 9/1 and 9/2 that my Yahoo Marketing account has expired. I can no longer access my account as of a couple of hours ago. I’m assuming that my password has been changed. I’ve received notification emails from Yahoo since then of other credit cards being charged amounts of 0.00 and ,000.00 on card numbers that I do not recognize… Thank God! I have tried phoning Yahoo for the last THREE HOURS and have been given the run-around, even after telling their people that there was a breach of security, that my account had been accessed, and the rest of what was happening. I was told that there is no phone number for the Security Department at Yahoo, and I’d have to email them! I have reference numbers of 958-8875 and 958-8917 from Yahoo phone personnel to document my contacts with them. And finally, after over three hours, I ended up being sent to the first number I had called… 886-562-7219 YAHOO CONSUMER CARE. There, I was asked for my account number again by an automated voice, and promptly told to email my problem, and I would be contacted within 24 hours!!!

I will be sharing this fun activity with the rest of the Internet world. I just feel sorry for the folks who were added to my corrupted account, and who will probably have their credit cards emptied… all because nobody at Yahoo cares enough about security to give “SECURITY” their own phone number to call when a breach is suspected… or in this case… FOUND and VERIFIED!

It is now 9:00 am on September 11, 2009. I have just checked my email for a response from Yahoo—there is none. I tried accessing my Yahoo search marketing account, and am denied access. In bold, red letters it says: “An error occurred during login because you have not been granted access to any accounts.” So as I promised them in my email, I am about to start distribution of my story in hopes of saving and helping some other Yahoo Search Marketing users. I do keep one eye on my driveway now—watching out for “foreign football linebackers”.

Social Media Marketing Best Practices Brent Mclean Is An Account Director At Alterseekers, Inc

Social Media Marketing Best Practices Brent Mclean Is An Account Director At Alterseekers, Inc

Social media has become the new battleground where brands have opportunities to fight for the hearts and mindshare of consumers. While social media is a relatively new phenomenon, it has been hailed as the most important shift in communications technology and media since the advent of the Internet itself. Participation in social media has skyrocketed into the hundreds of millions of active users and is increasing and spreading into broader demographics. People are spending an increasing amount of time (hours on average) on sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and also on blogs. Social media sites are increasing and everyday people are reconnecting with old friends, finding new ones, building business relationships, sharing their photos, videos, and thoughts on their lives, the world, and even the brands that they use.

Whether or not you’re tracking and following the conversations, your customers are talking about you online via their social media networks. They are writing about what they like as well as what they don’t like.

The brands that are successful in this new world of social media are those with a solid social media strategy for how to actively participate in the conversation around their brand. Consumer brands like Starbucks, Webkinz, Cold Stone Creamery, and Burger King have built awareness, preference and general goodwill among consumers through active social media marketing efforts.

But is social media marketing all just warm and fuzzy? Hardly! Blendtec achieved a five-fold increase in blender sales with a viral video series “Will it Blend.” Starbucks uses its “My Starbucks Idea” site (powered by the Salesforce.com Cloud) to generate and vet valuable product and promotion concepts. Dell estimates that their social media efforts create about million in revenue. Comcast set up the “@comcastcares” Twitter account to actively monitor and respond to customer complaints and requests – for a vastly better customer experience – which leads to increased retention and better word of mouth. Social media efforts can generate real business value and results, and those results and be tracked and measured.

But for every social media marketing success story, there are hundreds of failures. So many companies have gone to the effort of launching social media sites, but created boring, lifeless pages on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace, and blogs that no-one is paying the slightest attention to. Why? Simply put: poor planning. These companies jumped on the bandwagon of social media marketing without developing an adequate plan with business goals and metrics and a relevant creative strategy, and their efforts simply died on the vine.

So who wins in social media? The brands that make a big splash seem to follow a pattern:

Start with a clear objective

If you don’t know what you want your customers to do, then how can you expect them to do it? If you don’t know what your business goals are for your social media marketing efforts, then how can you drive toward them and how will you know when your efforts have worked? You need a social media strategy. You need to set goals, create tactics, measure, and adjust. Slapping some social media pages together is not a plan.

Offer something of real value

Your customers engage in social media to enrich their lives. They are happy to interact with your brand, if you’re giving them valid reasons. Starbucks has 3.7 million Facebook fans on this principle alone! They regularly offer their customer fans coupons and other cool stuff, and it absolutely works.

Show your human side

Jonathan Schwartz, CEO of Sun Microsystems, achieved 400,000 visits per month on his blog merely by being honest and human. He was open with his thoughts and opinions and allowed his readers to post comments with the same openness. People respond to human connections over social media. The more real and transparent and the more personable your brand can be, the more you will win in this space.

Entertain

Let’s face it: social media is fun. We share our wacky stories with our friends and family. Likewise, we invite companies and brands into our personal conversation if they’re fun! Burger King gets recognized for their outrageous promotions like the Whopper Sacrifice application in Facebook where users could “sacrifice” ten friends from their list in exchange for a free Whopper. Successful brands have found that they can show a more fun and edgy side in social media than in other channels, and be rewarded accordingly.

Engage in the conversation

Your customers are talking about your brand, and they’re doing it via social media. Shouldn’t you be a part of that conversation? Starbucks embraced this principle with MyStarbucksIdea.com, where users can submit their thoughts and ideas and see progress on what’s being done with those ideas. Many brands monitor mentions of their name online and respond to customers who need help or have a complaint. When done correctly, customers appreciate this level of support and interaction, and retention and referrals will improve accordingly!

Track & Measure Sales Impact

The point of social media marketing is to make money. You can’t manage what you don’t measure, so track everything and make sure you’re responding to the information you’re receiving. We’re living in real time and social media has never been so demanding of instant gratification and response.

Earn while you learn

If you’re not making money, then you shouldn’t be in marketing. I’m not talking the hard car salesman here, but everything you do should track back to how it impacts your sales. If something’s not driving sales, then figure out what needs to change. You’re never going to bat 1,000, but the more profitable your marketing efforts are, the more “at bats” you’ll get from your company.

Will An Automated Twitter Account Result In Do More Harm Than Good? (Part One)

Will An Automated Twitter Account Result In Do More Harm Than Good? (Part One)

Accounts that automate Twitter generally is a bad idea, if overdone any way. People that are legitimately just hanging out and mingling with their pals won’t run into this problem, however, if we are attempting to use Twitter for a advertising and marketing platform it may possibly only bring failure should you over do it. Automation may work with other aspects of online marketing such as, article submission or social bookmarking. Social marketing is just that – sociable, while bookmarking is more like merely letting people know that you are out there ready to link up.

Like I said, a certain amount of Twitter automation can be fine and sometimes vital so long as it’s not over done. For instance, the main concept of marketing with Twitter is to get yourself a substantial follower base – but what benefit is it to build thousands of followers if they are college students and single parents if you are promoting relationship counseling? 500 targeted followers is much better the 50,000 untargeted followers. For that reason, bulk following or blasting software will be a bad approach. Yes they might add thousands to your account, but half of them are not interested in you and the other half have sense disappeared and not been on Twitter in many months or years. There are many paid services that will let you enter keywords and phrases and then they’ll go get targeted followers on your behalf and add them. On that note, twollo (dot) com allow you to add two keywords at no cost. More then 2, you pay.

The manual alternative for the paid websites are sites like ‘twellow’ ‘justtweetit’ and ‘whoshouldifollow’. Manually plug in a search term and get loads of choices. Not automated, but a bit of elbow grease will get you a sizable TARGETED follower base.

The next most monotonous part of a Twitter account is monitoring the new followers, following back, posting welcome messages, catching those that un-follow and maintaining a balance between followers and follow’ies. In other words – account maintenance.

This is just one of those ‘must have’ automated Twitter tools. One popular program is SocialOomph (dot) com. Once known as ‘TweetLater’ this website lets you auto follow and auto un-follow individuals. This on it’s own ıs really a enormous time saver. At the same time it enables you to immediately deliver a direct message to the new followers. This brings up another judgment question..

Just what exactly ought to be the first tweet I send my new friends?

Picture this. In real life, do you go up to a fresh potential customer and begin showing them the cool goods you have to sell? Yeh, you can, but probably not have a job as a salesman very long. Direct Message manners will go something like this:

• Never: ‘Thanks for following me, now go have a look at my $hit @ . . . ‘

• Maybe: Offer a free gift by pointing them to your squeeze page

• Better: Offer a free gift with no optin page – let the e-book steer them to you websites if they’re curious.

• If all else fails: Don’t send out a message at all! Like my mama used to say.. ‘If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.’

Personally I’m in favor of the last 2 choices.

This is a quick guide on how to set up a Twitter account

This is a quick guide on how to set up a Twitter account

-         Head to Twitter.com

-         Click on the sign up box

-         Put your full name in the first box

-          Put in your user name ( now remember if you are trying to brand your self for a marketing reason, you will want to use that same name as your website, blog, facebook account,My Space,Linked In and any other sites you have singed up with. This will allow anyone looking for you online can find all your valuable content.  This all ties into social networking!

-          Put in your email and password

-            You will then want to go into settings and upload a picture of you smiling and or having a good time especially if you are in sales or marketing of any sort.

-          Make sure you check ” Let others find me by email address”

-          Choose whether you want geotagging on or off, whichs enables third party applications to pinpoint your location when you tweet. ( good idea if you are setting up a Twitter account for your children on their phones)

-          Choose whether you want your tweets protected or not – this only allows people that you approve to follow you to see your tweets.

-          Go into “Settings” then “Mobile” which allows you to register your cell number and tweet from your phone by texting to number 40404 ( just remember that tweets are only allowed to be 140 characters to where standard texts are 160 – so be careful)

-          Its also a great idea to insert a bio about you, people do want to know who you are and what you like, remember this is social networking.

-          If you have a website or blog put that info in the box that says “web box”

-          Its also a good idea to get away from the standardized background that everyone else has, be original, be exciting, be fun, while you can pay for a really glamorous background, I have had great luck and some really great free backgrounds at twitterbackgrounds.com

-          If you also have websites or accounts on Facebook, The home Based Business Network, Linked In, TweetMeMe, Ezine Articles,Squidoo or any other site, it’s a good idea to set these up in the “connections” area which will allow you to tweet the content from those popular sites.

-          Ok now that you are set up and want to start tweeting there are a few things that you might want to know. Tweets cannot be any longer than 140 characters and there are following and followers rules. The rule is once you arrive at the 2000 mark you always have to keep the difference between the two at 10 percent. If you don’t follow this rule you wil be kept from following anymore until your followers have caught up to at least 10 percent.  Also if you are using Twitter to market a service or product you really need to provide some valuable content like quotes, articles, videos or news updates, the rule of thumb is for every “tweet” of your business you need to “tweet” three valuable content tweets.

-          You have the ability to go in and “Find people” and you can find them by groups, friends, their email or Twitter name. Once you put in a name like ” Jim Smith” you will see a list of people or businesses with that name on the left, on the right you will have three boxes. The first box says “follow” which clicking on that gives you a green arrow meaning you are now following that person, the second box says “manage lists” meaning you can put people you are following in different lists, the third box gives you more options main one you will use is unfollow that person if you chose.

-          Occassionaly you will get a “DM” which means Direct Message from someone, its good karma to answer them back as long as it’s a legitimate message, again remember this is social networking

-          If you get into thousands or tens of thousands of following and followers you may consider a few tools to help you manage the marketing aspect if that is what your doing. Tools like Social Oomph which allows you to set up tweets in advance, Friend or Follow which filters people that you are following but not following you and Hummingbird that is a automation program to name a few to help you generate more tweets and followers.

-          So this is just a general overview of how to set up a Twitter account, I hope it helps you get through the initial set up.

-          I only request that if you find this information helpful and you are up and tweeting that you follow me at robertdstrong and send me a tweet saying ” thank you robert for the Twitter Twaining it was Twawesome”

-          One last word of wisdom on Twitter – if you read some good content or watch a good video sent through Twitter it’s a good idea to get in the practice to “ReTweet” so it goes out to your followers as well.

-          Talk to you later, Robert

How to Create a Twitter Account Used for Marketing

Internet marketing has become so intense that internet marketers, from all over the world, have taken a new route to gaining more sales by increasing what is known as their “Twitter traffic”.  Twitter is basically a social networking and micro-blogging website that allows people to update themselves in real time through tweets, which are one or two liners with a maximum of 140 characters.

Twitter has also developed a reputation of being one of the best marketing tools for internet marketers all over the globe because of several reasons.  The first is because a lot of people, especially those within the target market of most, if not all, of these online businessmen and women, use this online service.  There are a lot of potential customers using Twitter, so it is only logical that an internet marketer would want to build relationships by going to where they are frequently found.  Second is because Twitter allows people to talk about what interests them through one or two sentences, making it easier to catch people’s attention if, for example, you are trying to promote your online business (while adding the website’s URL) through your daily updates.  All this you can do by creating your own Twitter account for yourself and for your online business as well.

So how exactly do you create a Twitter account?  If it is for personal interests, then that shouldn’t be a problem since you can use a unique and personalized username and post tweets about anything under the sun.  But if this is to be used as a marketing strategy, here are a few tips to consider:

• First step is to create a Twitter account.  You can do this by going to the Twitter homepage and click on the “Get Started” button on the bottom of the page.

• When creating a new account in Twitter, choose a username that can summarize your entire business.  You can either use the business name or come up with something unique that will instantly tell people who you are and what you are interested about.

• After picking a username and creating your account, you will instantly be directed to a page where you can invite people through your email address book.  This will allow you to start adding people who can be your potential customers.

• The next thing that you can do is search for friends and potential followers who aren’t included in your address book.  You can use the search engine on the top right corner of your Twitter profile and look for people who may be interested in your business based on the keywords and keyword phrases used in their tweets or updates.

• You can also set up your mobile phone so that you will be able to check on your Twitter page even while you are away from the computer.  By doing this you can also tweet updates anywhere and anytime you feel like it.  For instance, if you are a part of a certain event or occasion related to your business, you can easily tweet about it with your phone.

How To Set Up Twitter Account

Author admin    Category Twitter Marketing     Tags ,

How To Set Up Twitter Account?Setting up on Twitter to have your own account is easy, but there are a few things that you should be aware of when organizing your account. This can apply even if you already have an existing account too, so consider these tips and it can improve your entire Twitter experience. The first thing to do if you don’t have an account is go to http://www.twitter.com which is the Twitter home page. You will be asked to either login or register. If you don’t have an account, then of course you will need to register. So let’s go through the registration process and explain it all here. Registration The Twitter screen will ask you for your first name and last name and will then check this is entered correctly. A green tick will appear next to the box. The next box asks you for a user name and this is where you need to give some thought to how you are going to represent yourself on Twitter. You should remember that you can set up more than one Twitter account, but you will need a different email address for each one. Now this is where the thinking bit comes in. The first account you register should always be in your own name if you can get it. Naturally, common names like JohnSmith (there are no spaces in usernames) will already be taken. However it is possible to get variations on your own name such as John_Smith, or John_Smith23 or some variation like that. You can only use an underscore in a username. Hyphens are not permitted in the field. It isn’t absolutely critical that you register your own name, but I would advise you do if you can, particularly if your name is an unusual one. I’m sure the last thing you want is someone else impersonating you on Twitter, or anywhere else for that matter. If you wish to register a business name, then you can do that of course, but make your you use your own name in the sign up process so you are identifiable and connected with the business name you register. The concepts and reasons for operating under each type of registration will be discussed later. You are now asked for your email address. Email addresses are linked to accounts and you will only be able to use your email address once. For every account you register, you will need a different email address. The last thing to do is to fill in the Captcha letters and then click on Create My Account. The next screen will ask if you want to add any of your friends from the popular web based email programs. You can do this later if you wish. The next screen presents a short list of people who Twitter asks if you would like to follow. Choose some if you like, but I wouldn’t bother. I prefer to find my own Twitter friends. When you click Finish, you will then be taken to your very own Twitter account. You are logged in and ready to go! Your Settings Next thing we are going to do is fill out our settings and this is very important on Twitter. You will find the access to this at the top right of the screen, fourth link from the left. On this page you will notice there are some tabs across the top. For the moment we will concentrate on the Account tab. The information you entered on joining is already entered here, but now it’s time to pad this out so people can find you on Twitter and you also make yourself an interesting person to be followed. People will use the information you enter here to make that decision, but much of what is entered is also searchable on Twitter and through various third party applications. One thing to note is that you can change your username at any time on this screen. You just have to enter your password to do so. Although it can be done, it can confuse your follower base, so I wouldn’t recommend doing it on a weekly basis. First of all change your time zone to your own and then move onto the one line bio. Your Bio You have 160 characters here to “sell” yourself. Take some time over it and do it well. Don’t simply enter a bunch of keywords as they appear totally uninteresting to people, although they may get you found. Use keywords by all means, but start your Bio with the words “I am” and then describe yourself. So you might put for example:- I am a keen gardener and hiker who also has a passion for the outdoors, internet marketing and affiliate marketing who also loves social media. Now that description is only 143 characters, so you could still get some more keywords in the bio. No doubt you can see the ones that are there which are gardener, hiker, internet marketing, affiliate marketing and social media. Using these terms in your bio will have you coming up in search results when people are looking for other like minded individuals to follow. As you can see, it is worth taking some time to get the bio right. Balance of Screen Enter your web site name or blog here if you have one. Make sure you include the http:// prefix to the address. Your location is next and is also important so people can search and find others in their same area. It will also be important to you if you are chasing rankings on Twitter as users are ranking by their locations. Protect Updates This is included if you want to have a private account and you have to approve followers. NEVER turn this on if you intend to use Twitter to meet new people. They just couldn’t be bothered requesting permission to follow you unless they know you personally. You can now save your settings, but note here that there is also a link to delete your account should you ever wish to do so. Devices How to set up Twitter mobile? You can enter your mobile phone number here if you want Twitter updates to your phone. Personally, I can’t think of anything worse, particularly if you have a couple of thousand followers. Notices You can have Twitter “nudge” you with a text to your mobile phone if you haven’t updated in 24 hours. What a pain! The Replies function is an interesting one and will determine what tweets you see that are prefixed with the @ symbol. This is how you direct a tweet to a particular individual. There is a great help screen explanation on this, so go there to make your decision. The rest of the notices are self explanatory. It is worth noting that the Direct Messages possibly needs a bit of explanation though as to what they are if you are new to Twitter. If you are following someone and they are following you, Direct Messages can be sent that won’t appear in the Twitter timeline. They are essentially private messages between two people. If you are an infrequent user of Twitter, it may be worthwhile to switch on receiving notifications by email so you can respond. Otherwise leave it off as it will just fill up your mail box with more clutter. Likewise, the notifications that you have a new follower just adds to your email and I would leave it off unless you like the buzz of being told someone new has followed you.

How To Set Up Twitter Account

What To Do If Your Facebook Or Twitter Account Is Hacked

Unfortunately, this scenario is a reality for all of us who use social networking — it’s not a matter of IF your Twitter or Facebook account will be hacked, but simply WHEN. I’ve been on the receiving end of messages from my friends whose accounts have been hacked. The message typically compliments me on some body part or requests me to click on a link to view a video of myself. Also, there are usually a number of misspellings in the message.

Be very careful when you get those kinds of messages, even when they are coming from trusted friends who would normally not engage in this type of behavior. Many of the messages are linked to a virus or some type of malware that either infects your computer or will gain access to your account and send all of your friends and followers spammy messages. If you do slip and click on one of these links, pay attention to what your virus scanning software tells you, especially if you get a security warning about a site.

If your Twitter account is hacked:

1. Visit Twitter’s information page for problem resolution.

2. Log out of Twitter

3. Clear your browser cache (your browsing history and cookies and private info) and close down your browser.

For Internet Explorer: Go to Tools — Internet Options, and then click on the “Delete” button under Browsing History. Check all of the boxes (except InPrivate Filtering data) and click on the “Delete” button.

For Firefox: Go to Tools — Clear Recent History, and then click on the down-arrow next to “Details”, check all of the boxes, and select “Everything” for the time range to clear.

4. Open a new browser window, log into Twitter, and change your password. You can also use the Twitter password reset feature to set a new password before logging in again.

5. Visit your settings page and check your Connections. Revoke access for any third-party application that you don’t recognize.

6. Submit a support request to let them know you have taken all of the proper steps to reset your account and to request that your direct messaging capability be restored. You can also include info on any statuses that weren’t posted by you in the body of the request.

7. Update your password in all of your third party applications as well. If a third party application (like Facebook, Twitterrific, Twhirl, etc.) is trying to use your old password to access your tweets, it will lock you out of your account.

If your Facebook account is hacked:

1. Visit Facebook’s information page for problem resolution.

2. If you are still able to access your login email address, then use the “Forgot your password” link to prompt an email from Facebook with a password reset code. If you can’t access your account, then use the link above.

3. Clear your browser cache (your browsing history and cookies and private info) and close down your browser as described above.

4. Your account could also have been phished/hacked by a phishing web site, worm, or malicious software. To ensure that all is safe again, refer to the “Warnings” section on Facebook.

Take care when using Twitter and Facebook. Trust your intuition, and if something doesn’t look or feel right, ignore it or delete it before clicking on it. You will have probably saved yourself hours or headache in trying to restore a hacked account.
