Basic Internet Marketing 101

To have a successful Internet business, you need only three things:
1. Product
2. Copywriting
3. Traffic
It really is that simple. If you have those three things… competently performed, you will have a succesful, profitable Internet business. Let’s talk about competency in each of those three areas and how you can quickly master each one.
Product
You need a product that people want. Don’t fall in love with a product just because you think it’s cool. I’ll go into details in a future article, but I look at two things to determine if a product is wanted enough for me to sell it:
1. Are there people searching for that product (I use the Overture tool)
2. Are fellow marketers willing to pay a significant amount of money for traffic for that search term because people are buying (I also use the Overture tool).
I multiply those two numbers. If the result is higher than the result for the product “air guns”, I’m willing to get into that market. Why “air guns”? It was simply my first profitable product. Can products that score lower than “air guns” be profitable? I’m sure they can, but there are enough markets that score higher than “air guns”, I’m not willing to chance it.
BTW, don’t get too hung up on the product. It is the least important of the three items. Copywriting and traffic are infinitely more important to your business. Don’t spend two years developing a product. There are already thousands of products available on the Internet that you can market and earn a percentage as an affiliate. Choosing your product should take no longer than a half an hour, not two years. You can run the numbers for 6-10 product ideas in less than half an hour and make your decision. Then start concentrating on what really matters… which is…
Copywriting
Now you need to describe your product. You will do this in many ways. You will create a sales page on a web-site that will describe the product and try to sell it. You will write small text ads to run on PPC search engines. You will write similar one and two line descriptions to enter into affiliate networks. You will write articles and resource boxes for those articles. You may even write a signature line for use on forums.
The point is that copywriting is what conveys the message about your product. It is simply some words. You can sometimes uses pictures and videos, but it is generally the words that actually do the selling. Don’t forget that you are in the business of words.
How do you decide what words to use? You have three choices if you are a beginner:
1. Hire a high priced copywriter. Generally you will want to pay ,000-,000 per sales page for a decent copywriter. Drop me a note if you want referrals. I know two of the best.
2. Use copywriting software that scores words. I recommend Glyphius which you can read more about at Glyphius.com. It scores your prospective ad copy against a massive database of profitable ads. You can simply make up some copy and click the score button. Then change it and click the score button again. Pick the highest scoring text after you have worked with it for awhile. You’ll have copy that the pros will envy and more importantly… copy that will convert that traffic into customers.
3. Fail for a long time while you are learning. Don’t laugh. Most Internet marketers choose this path. If you are persisent enough, you will learn what works and what doesn’t.
Traffic
Once you have copy that sells, you need to get people to see it. We call that “traffic” on the Internet.
There are dozens of ways to get traffic on the Internet. Let me focus on two ways that I recommend to beginners because both are free (well; there is a small one-time cost to get started, but you don’t pay for each visitor like some other sources).
1. Search Engine Optimization – get free traffic from the search engines by being ranked high for the search terms associated with your product.
2. Article Submission – get recognition and links to your site by writing and submitting articles.
Let’s talk about Search Engine Optimization first. First of all, DO NOT waste weeks and months of your life listening to the lemmings on the SEO forums. In my experience, they are just the blind leading the blind. There are three factors to search engine optimization you should focus on:
a) Your domain and URLs
b) On page optimization
c) Links to your site
For the first, I recommend you choose your domain and URL structure using Nemeas. You can read about it at Nemeas.com. It is very simple to use and is also based on a massive statistical analysis of the leading search engine. You simply score prospective domains and URLs and select the highest scoring one.
I don’t recommend any on page optimization unless you are creating free content sites to feed traffic to your sales page. Instead, optimize your sales page for selling with Glyphius and don’t worry about the on page search engine factors.
For getting inbound links to your site, I recommend article submission. I recommend that you use Artemis Pro. You can read more about it at ArtemisPro.com. It gives you a boost above any other currently available article submission tool because it submits a unique article to each publisher. That boost can amount to an 1875% increase in effectiveness given the same amount of time invested.
At the end of each article, you should have a resource box with a link back to the site with your sales page. That resource box should be optimized with Glyphius.
That’s it. Running a successful, profitable Internet business is really just that simple. It’s just choosing the right product, choosing the right words for your copywriting and choosing the best way to get traffic to your sales page.

Internet Marketing Basic Tips

If you are just starting out with internet marketing it can be a daunting task. Information overload is a common concern. With this in mind, I have compiled a list of what I believe to be 25 of the most important tips for successfully marketing a web site. There are many other factors to consider but these tips should help put you on the right track.
Internet Marketing Basics:
1. Research is the most important step in internet marketing. Overlook this now = pay later.
2. Research your competitor’s web sites; discover how they have things setup, which keywords they are targeting.
3. Research the number of competitors you have for various keywords related to your business. Choose 5 to 10 keywords to start with and build web pages themed to those keywords.
4. Create quality content, spend time on your content, make it something unique, information that people need to have or won’t find elsewhere, give people insight.
5. Choose a domain name that contains keywords relevant to your business.
6. Choose a title for your web site that contains your keywords
7. The opening sentence of your site’s first paragraph should contain your keywords
8. The home page of your site should contain between 250 and 500 word, your keyword should be repeated in this text 2 or 3 times.
9. Don’t rely on one source of traffic to your site; in fact you should have as many different sources of traffic as possible.
10. Start building a newsletter or opt-in list for your site early on; this is one of the easiest channels to sell to.
11. Include your business address in the footer of your web site, make your offline contact details easy to find.
12. Include your website on offline marketing material bumper stickers, coffee mugs, pens, memo pads, etc; it’s amazing how many people still over look this.
13. Include a link to your web site in your email signature.
14. Spend the extra bucks on your website for a professional design, image is important
15. Make sure your visitors know exactly what your website is about within 5 seconds of viewing the home page, make it clear and concise.
16. Add a privacy / security policy page to your site.
17. Add a terms and conditions page to your site.
18. Create videos that promote your products and services, upload these to you-tube any every other video publisher you can find.
19. Write articles about your business and upload these to every article publisher you can find
20. Create pod-casts and feature these on your site.
21. Join forums relevant to your business create a signature file with a link to your site and make regular, quality posts.
22. Exchange links, banners, ad space and newsletter promos with other web site owners in your niche.
23. Beware of internet marketing hype, there’s an endless stream of it.
24. Add quality content to your web site on a regular basis, the set it and forget it method just doesn’t work
25.Search online for ways to automate, systemize or otherwise reduce the time required for every item on this list.

What do you do when you need to find some information on the Web ? You just jump to one of the major search engines and type in the query that you’re looking for and then click through the search results, right? But search engines weren’t always around.
In the beginning the Internet was a confusing mass of documents. Finding information, by searching the World Wide Web, was nearly impossible until the search engines came along and when they came,they got their job done by providing the required information to the users and by this way more and more people started gaining access to these search engines for their queries and thus the dependence on search engines for information increased.
Thus in this way Search engines evolved and then spranged up a concept called Search Engine optimization(SEO) which is constantly growing day by day as the Web is developing.
Search engine optimization (SEO) is a broader term which means a lot of things to a lot of different people. Precisely, SEO is about the on-page and off-page design strategies you can use to improve your search engine rankings. In other words, it is about doing whatever you need to do to ensure that your web site ranks as high as possible in search engine results.There are so many facets of search engine optimization, from how search engines work (and they all work a little differently) to how a web page is designed.
Search engine optimization is the concept of maximizing the traffic that your web site generates. It requires a lot of time and a lot of hard work. As Search engines are constantly changing, the methods and strategies used to achieve high search engine rankings are also changing. Let me focus your attention towards the 10 very basic SEO tips to help you get started:-
1. Monitor where you stand:-
You won’t know if your SEO efforts are working unless you monitor your search standings. It is always advisable that you keep an eye on your page rank with tools like Alexa and the Google toolbar. It’s also important to check your referrer log regularly to track where your visitors are coming from and the search terms they’re using to find your site.
2. Keywords, keywords, keywords!
You should be conscious of placing appropriate keywords throughout every aspect of your site: your titles, content, URLs, and image names. Think about your keywords as search terms — how would someone looking for information on this topic search for it?
The title tag and page header are the two most important spots to put you keywords. BEWARE of Putting ridiculous amounts of keywords on your site which will get you labeled as a spammer, and search engine spiders are programmed to ignore sites guilty of “keyword-stuffing.” Be strategical in your keyword use.
3. Link back to yourself:-
There is probably no more basic strategy for SEO than the integration of internal links into your site — it is an easy way to boost traffic to individual pages. You should make it standard to link back to your archives frequently when creating new content. It is advisable that you also make the anchor text search-engine-friendly: “The more relevant words point to a page, the more likely that page is to appear in search results when users run a query with those terms.”
As with all other SEO approaches, be sure your links are appropriate, and be careful not to cross the line into excessive linking — you don’t want your visitors to get annoyed.
4. Create a sitemap:-
Adding a site map — a page listing and linking to all the other major pages on your site — makes it easier for spiders to search your site. The fewer clicks necessary to get to a page on your website, the better.
5. Search-friendly URLs:-
Make your URLs more search-engine-friendly by naming them with clear keywords. For instance, it’s easy to understand what ‘www.example.com/example1/tenses’ would contain. It’s less easy to understand if the in-house classification system of the business is used, for example ‘www.example.com/11985/j702.htm’. A dynamic URL is similarly off-putting, even if it contains recognisable words: ‘www.example.com/search/?s=”tenses”‘.
6. Avoid use of Flash:
Flash might look pretty, but it does nothing for your SEO. Frames, Flash and AJAX all share a common problem – you can’t link to a single page… Don’t use Frames at all and use Flash and AJAX sparingly for best SEO results.
If you absolutely MUST have your main page as a splash page that is all Flash or one big image, place text and navigation links below the fold.
7. Use Image descriptions:-
Spiders can only search text, not text in your images — which is why you need to make the words associated with your images as descriptive as possible. Start with your image names: adding an “ALT” tag allows you to include a keyword-rich description for every image on your site. The visible text around your images is valuable for SEO.
8. CONTENT is King:-
Your content needs to be fresh — updating regularly and often is crucial for increasing traffic. The best sites for users, and consequently for search engines, are full of updated, useful information about a given service, product, topic or discipline. One way to ensure that your site gets new content on a frequent basis is to integrate a blog. An executive blog is an excellent way to reach out to your clients, create more opportunities for internal and external linking, while giving your site a more personal voice.
9. Social media distribution:-
A CEO blog is just one element of social media distribution. You should be distributing links to fresh content on your site across appropriate social networking platforms. Whether displayed on your company’s account, or recommended, re-tweeted, and re-distributed by someone else, this strategy exponentially muliplies the number of places where visitors will view your links.
10. Link to others:-
An easy way to direct more traffic to your site is by developing relationships with other sites. It is always suggestable that you personally ask the webmasters of well-respected sites if they’ll include a link to your site on theirs. Be sure to return the favor — then everyone wins! Make certain that your partner has a good web-reputation, of course. Beware against getting tied to a “link farm” whose bad SEO habits could bring you down.
Search engine optimization is really a balance of what you do and what yoou do not do. SEO is a process which needs your time, effort, commitment. You don’t do SEO in one day and reap its fruits tomorrow. It is a constant and consistent process.
So be ready to completely smoke your competitors in the search engine war and you’re virtually GUARANTEED success if you will follow all the ethical SEO practices.

Every webmaster is having his own style of building links. But my link building campaign is completely different and search engine friendly. I have worked on many keywords and have successfully bought those keywords in Google first page listing. From my past experience i can say that my link building campaign works like charm.
How my link building campaign works for a website or blog?
Honestly, your should not have to build links fatly, especially when your domain is new. Building links should be done very carefully and it should look very natural to search engines.
My link building campaign:
1) Social bookmarking – 1st step
2) Directory submission – 2nd step
3) Article marketing -3rd step
4) Blog commenting – 4th step
5) Contextual links from theme related pages – 5th step
6) Theme related Blog roll links – Last step
Social bookmarking: Every link building campaign starts with manual social bookmarking.You have to submit unique content to every social media site and the keywords should be 100% related to your website or else Google will consider as a keyword spam. Social bookmarking is the terrific method to gain social media traffic for any website.
Directory submission: Try to submit your site to top 300 niche related directories manually with correct keywords and description. Now a day’s many directories are requesting a reciprocal link. They are not accepting our site unless if we don’t add their site in any our sites. For such directories you need to create a dedicated page where you can place all the directories who are requesting reciprocal link. Our website will be listed very fast if we give a reciprocal link to the requested directories.
Article marketing: Many webmasters says content is king. And it can bring organic traffic from search engines. As per my knowledge I can say article marketing is one of the best off page optimization to gain high quality links from article directories. Write an article and spin it to 10 more unique articles manually. Try to submit each article manually to each article directory. Through my link building campaign i give much stress to article marketing why because it deals with content and quality contextual link building.
Blog commenting: One of the most powerful link building method which can increase your site popularity, visibility and higher search engine ranking position results for the targeted keywords. But please don’t spam websites and forums with improper comments and many anchors.
Contextual links: Contextual links looks very natural to major search engines. I always recommend content based theme related links. Search theme related websites and request a blogpost from the website owners. These links will definitely help you in higher serps.
Blog roll links: As per my knowledge i always recommend theme based home page links. Blog roll links helps you in getting site wide links. If a website is having 1000 indexed inner pages then you will get 1000 backlinks as per my knowledge. Try to contact webmasters for blog roll links whose websites are 100% Related to your site. If he or she agrees then pay some incentives for site wide blog roll links.
These are the 6 important link building methods in my link building campaign. These methods are strong enough to rank in higher search engine rankings. There are many more link building methods like forum posting, sponsored links, press release and submission and many more methods. But those methods are not so strong enough to rank.

Search engine optimization is not as difficult the way many people make it out to be. It seems mysterious, but let me reveal how this simple thing can be done without a line of code, without breaking any law, and still generate a ton of extra traffic to your site.
Basically, search engine optimization is about getting higher rankings. But that\’s beside the point. That\’s the end result of what you DO that actually gets you those rankings. In Singapore SEO trainings are hardly seen but I often do it for my clients on a private basis.
There are basically 5 things you need to do in order to accomplish better search engine rankings, even if you are complete novice at it. I call these the 5 Pillars of search engine optimization.
Pillar #1 – Multiple Backlinks
Create as many links back to your site as possible. How? You can use submission software that post to multiple websites all at the same time. I prefer to use those that are a little more reputable and I do not spam, especially blogs. Backlinks can come easily, but you will need to do it properly to prevent the backlack. The easiest way to do it is to collect a list of places where you can submit to.
Pillar #2 – Frequency
Even if you are building backlinks, you need to have a regular frequency. If possible, every day, if not every other day. You need to be consistent in your efforts to build backlinks. Now, this may be tedious, but it probably won\’t take you more than an hour a day to maintain this. You don\’t have to write articles at all. You only need a robot that works 24/7 for you.
Pillar #3 – Multiple Hosting Accounts
I recommend this because search engines look at IP addresses. with multiple hosting accounts, you get better inbound links from your own site. If you\’re smart, you\’ll start creating a whole ton of these to boost your own link popularity from other sites.
Pillar #4 – Important Sites
If you haven\’t already, Brad Callen\’s SEO Elite has a great way of better optimizing high PageRank links. PageRank is Google\’s way of tracking how important you are. For SEO purposes, around PR 2 or 3 should be sufficient for your needs. Get backlinks from these sites.
Pillar #5 – Onpage structure
Your onpage structure is very important. If a search engine is visiting you, it won\’t spend an hour online. It will be done in a matter of seconds, so you really ought to see how far you can go with this. Ensure you have proper meta titles, utilizing H1 and H2 tags effectively, and of course, anchor text within your site. Make sure you have links into your web page on the first index page of your site. I highly recommend you use blogs for such an endeavor because most of these are already optimized for you. Remember – you are always optimizing for keywords, so those MUST appear on your page for search engines to find you.
Here are the three things you must do.
First, make regular attempts to create backlinks (not reciprocal links) with other sites. Leave genuine comments on blogs, post into classified directories, submit your articles to various sites, whatever it takes. Do this as regularly as possible.
Second, ensure you have solid content. People will want to link to you because your content is good. So I recommend that you either write your own or ask someone to build it for you at one of the freelancer sites like www.elance.com.
Third, maintain consistency in what you do. 1 a day for 100 days is very different from 100 a day posts on your website. Beware because search engines treat the latter as spamdexing.
SEO doesn\’t take forever, but it requires a wee bit of patience. The Singapore SEO market, for instance, is pretty easy to dominate. But that\’s because you have niche keywords that you are optimizing for with very little competition. In other markets, it\’s not like the Singapore SEO market because you\’ve got very competitive phrases, and that might take a bit longer. Whatever the case, consistency wins out in the end, so start right now!

Search engine optimization is not as difficult the way many people make it out to be. It seems mysterious, but let me reveal how this simple thing can be done without a line of code, without breaking any law, and still generate a ton of extra traffic to your site.
Basically, search engine optimization is about getting higher rankings. But that\’s beside the point. That\’s the end result of what you DO that actually gets you those rankings. In Singapore SEO trainings are hardly seen but I often do it for my clients on a private basis.
There are basically 5 things you need to do in order to accomplish better search engine rankings, even if you are complete novice at it. I call these the 5 Pillars of search engine optimization.
Pillar #1 – Multiple Backlinks
Create as many links back to your site as possible. How? You can use submission software that post to multiple websites all at the same time. I prefer to use those that are a little more reputable and I do not spam, especially blogs. Backlinks can come easily, but you will need to do it properly to prevent the backlack. The easiest way to do it is to collect a list of places where you can submit to.
Pillar #2 – Frequency
Even if you are building backlinks, you need to have a regular frequency. If possible, every day, if not every other day. You need to be consistent in your efforts to build backlinks. Now, this may be tedious, but it probably won\’t take you more than an hour a day to maintain this. You don\’t have to write articles at all. You only need a robot that works 24/7 for you.
Pillar #3 – Multiple Hosting Accounts
I recommend this because search engines look at IP addresses. with multiple hosting accounts, you get better inbound links from your own site. If you\’re smart, you\’ll start creating a whole ton of these to boost your own link popularity from other sites.
Pillar #4 – Important Sites
If you haven\’t already, Brad Callen\’s SEO Elite has a great way of better optimizing high PageRank links. PageRank is Google\’s way of tracking how important you are. For SEO purposes, around PR 2 or 3 should be sufficient for your needs. Get backlinks from these sites.
Pillar #5 – Onpage structure
Your onpage structure is very important. If a search engine is visiting you, it won\’t spend an hour online. It will be done in a matter of seconds, so you really ought to see how far you can go with this. Ensure you have proper meta titles, utilizing H1 and H2 tags effectively, and of course, anchor text within your site. Make sure you have links into your web page on the first index page of your site. I highly recommend you use blogs for such an endeavor because most of these are already optimized for you. Remember – you are always optimizing for keywords, so those MUST appear on your page for search engines to find you.
Here are the three things you must do.
First, make regular attempts to create backlinks (not reciprocal links) with other sites. Leave genuine comments on blogs, post into classified directories, submit your articles to various sites, whatever it takes. Do this as regularly as possible.
Second, ensure you have solid content. People will want to link to you because your content is good. So I recommend that you either write your own or ask someone to build it for you at one of the freelancer sites like www.elance.com.
Third, maintain consistency in what you do. 1 a day for 100 days is very different from 100 a day posts on your website. Beware because search engines treat the latter as spamdexing.
SEO doesn\’t take forever, but it requires a wee bit of patience. The Singapore SEO market, for instance, is pretty easy to dominate. But that\’s because you have niche keywords that you are optimizing for with very little competition. In other markets, it\’s not like the Singapore SEO market because you\’ve got very competitive phrases, and that might take a bit longer. Whatever the case, consistency wins out in the end, so start right now!

3 Basic Social Media Tips for All Local Home Improvement Contractors

Darren Salyer of Total Home Remodeling in Wentzville, MO has been running FaceBook ads since December 2009. By March 2010, he had only spent a total of 5 dollars to gain some needed attention for his then struggling business.
As a result of his dabbling in Social Media Marketing (SMM), Darren’s Facebook fan page received eighty-four clicks over the three month period with about sixty-five of those visitors moving on to review his business website.
It would seem that the marketing effort paid off for Total Home Remodeling, which was rewarded with three nice jobs to bid on. The total value of the three bids was ,000. Not bad for a 5 total investment.
Under the marketing blog where Darren Salyer posted the results of his online marketing strategy, he reported that “things look good” for getting all three of these contracts signed. Regardless of the final outcome, he snagged three promising opportunities that many not otherwise have come his way had he not given FaceBook’s pay-per-click advertising a try.
Hard Times Call For Hard and Fast Solutions
The current recession has taken its toll on the construction industry. Many independent contractors have been forced to close up shop; while those still hanging on have had to cut back and revise their marketing strategies as Darren Salyer may also been forced to do.
Strapped for cash, many small contractors have had to resort to lower-cost business marketing ideas to bring in more work. Social Media Marketing has proved to be rather effective in helping some of these builders and handymen reach out to a new audience of Web savvy consumers; many of whom live locally and are in need of quality home improvement services.
Local contractors are, for the most part, chasing the same limited pool of work in their area and should be seeking out marketing strategies and tactics to help them stand out among those in an increasingly competitive crowd. The Web offers these small business owners what may be the marketing equivalent of “low price flights” to the usual year long PennySaver ads, which come with recurring cost. Very often these kind of local ads offer little or no response during extended periods throughout the year.

No matter what your approach is to social media marketing, you should have a strategy and goal that keeps you focused on your target audience and the ultimate prize – doing business with them. Rather than complicate things too much; here are three steps that apply to almost every small business engaged in Social Media Marketing:
Tip 1: Listen. Blogger Tania Yuki in her post on comscore.com shares the following advice:
“People are talking about your business, so you may as well get down in the weeds and know what’s going on.”
Tip 2: Engage. “Social media is the tool, social engagement is what you do to create awareness and earn sales” This is according to Social Media Guru, Brian Solis, who has offered a number of bestselling books dealing with Social Media for business. Solis goes on to explain that “Creating a presence in social networks is mandatory, but it’s also not enough. Actively and thoughtfully engaging consumers in social networks is quickly becoming an expectation. It’s up to your business to develop a following.”
Tip 3: Respond. Great response begins with great listening. Lindsay Lebresco of Conversation, a Social Media agency recommends the basics like Google Alerts, Twitter, Technorati and search engines to search out key categories – using keywords – that will let you know what people are saying about you and your business. Carefully read and understand what is being said; (if the remarks are negative) take a few deep breaths and perhaps sleep on it; think of a positive way to frame your response and respond in an appropriate manner.
Before You Can Soar You Must Build A Place to Land
Oh, by the way there is a preliminary step to these three. You won’t be successful in social media marketing without, first, having an effective website for your consumers to visit when they want to check you out. Most potential customers start their consideration process at your website. It must be professional looking, informative and able to bring them to whatever the next step is that you want them to take leading to doing business with you – a “call to action.”
So take a look at your website and ask yourself the following questions about it? Does Your Website Really Measure Up?
1. Is your website’s design aesthetically pleasing?
2. How intuitive is your website to navigate?
3. Does your website have a clear statement of PURPOSE near the top of its homepage?
4. Is your website copy concisely written and richly informative?
5. Do you update your website content REGULARLY?
6. Does your website have a “call to action” on every page for customers to respond to?
7. Does your website’s index page draw visitors further into its content and to where you display and sell your products and contract your services?
8. Is your website designed to encourage future visits (i.e. is there a newsletter; a tell-a-friend feature; a blog with an RSS button to subscribe with?)
Contractors, you can definitely “build some sweat equity” into the process of social media and most likely will get the business results you are looking for. You just need to be smart in the ways you employ the Internet in order to be easily found by consumers and then, be able to impress them when they land at your website for their very first time.
If your website passes the effectiveness test and if you have done all your homework with regard to local geo-search, you’ll be very pleased at the additional phone calls you’ll be getting from local customers looking for a reliable residential general contractor in the local area .
