There are many reasons why you need a personal landing page (PLP) to enhance your personal branding efforts. Let me count the ways….

10 Reasons why you need a personal landing page

A PLP shows that you embrace new technology. Your audience will see that you are accessible in the same social sites that they are on. By being on Facebook, Twitter or Linked In prospects know you stay current with the technology that is available.
Your PLP will become your social media dashboard. As I mentioned before your PLP should be set as your home page. No more typing in different URL’s in your browser just simply click on an icon. This will help you update your status easily.
It makes it easy for others to connect with you. As soon as someone visits your personal landing page they intuitively know what to do. Those icons are just so tempting to click on.
It keeps you ahead of your competitors. This simply puts you one step ahead of those guys. It positions you as the go-to person in a sense because you are organized and connected.
It helps you control and manage your online presence. This dashboard is about integration. With integration, all of your social media activity becomes easier.  
It increases your SEO rankings for free. This is probably one of the most powerful secrets of the internet. Just about all social media activity is now being indexed. So those activities will improve the rankings of your PLP! All the more reason to keep posting and updating.
It’s the first step in list building. The keep to wealth for the internet marketer is list building. Your list is your goldmine! But it starts with people connecting with you through your PLP from there you can direct them anywhere you like. Just click!
Your email address becomes easier for others to remember. If I didn’t mention it enough, personal branding begin your name. This means “yourname.com” and with that your email becomes firstname@fullname.com (or .me). So if someone remembers your name they can remember your email address. Besides, how much are the “free” email places paying you to promote them?
It is a tool in building your personal brand. The first thing that is shown on your PLP  is your name and in some cases your face. That what it is al about, name and face.

10.  You want others to remember your name. Isn’t that the point? Your name big, bold and beautifully displayed on your PLP. Now that leaves an impression in the minds of your prospects and visitors of you PLP.

Special Note; Do not treat your PLP like a website. It does not serve the same purpose as a standard website. The beauty in your personal landing page is in its simplicity and ease of use for visitors. Keep it that way.

SEO Triple Play; Ranking, Branding and Profit

This article will show you how to run a simple promotional marketing campaign that has an unusual side effect; Top placement on Google for your most important keywords. With one quick and easy task you can 1.) Get top ranking on Google, 2.) Build incredible brand or company awareness, and 3.) Earn an additional passive income while doing it, if you wish.

The concept is pretty straightforward. You post a piece of software (along with a simple PAD file) to shareware download sites like Download.com. They provide inbound links to your site. Simple right? Definitely! But that’s only part of it. If you know a couple inside tips you can have the link to your site contain your most important keywords as anchor text, which will skyrocket ranking on Google. And you can have your links point to any page you want using that keyword rich link! By the way, there are well over 1,000 well known download sites there for the linking!

Here are the steps to get hundreds of inbound links with only about an hour’s worth of work. It might cost as much as . Or, you can take some more time and do it all for free. It’s your call. Here we go…

Step 1.) Create Your Software

It sounds like a big deal but it’s not. You can use the free version of “Activ eBook Compiler” (available at eBookCompiler.com) to create information products with the standalone executable files that software download sites like to see. This is a great way to get your name out there and be recognized as an expert in your field. Of course, if you have (not the hundreds it usually costs) you can simply rebrand a great piece of software…

I “developed” four software products in about 30 minutes for just by using the rebrandable software offered by http://www.IMSoftwareBuzz.com. In short, you pay per month subscription fee and they send you one new rebrandable application each month. When you sign up, they have free bonuses that give you four products immediately (you could even stop your membership there if you want.) The rebrandable apps are top quality and in high demand. I kept my membership and it’s proving to be the cheapest advertising I’ve ever had.

Important Tip: The links will be the same whether you charge for your software or give it away for free. So assign a cost on the app if you’d like and make a nice passive income as well. Just remember that you cannot use the free version of the eBook Creator tool if you sell your product (you can buy it for .)

Step 2.) Create Your PAD File

PAD stands for Portable Application Description. It’s a simple XML file that you give to any potential publisher so they have all of your program’s information. But don’t worry. You don’t need to know anything about XML. Just use the free PADManager tool available at http://padmanager.org/. There’s no learning curve, the help files are great if you get stuck (which I doubt.) Here’s all you really need to know:

a.) When you fill in your company information, use your most important keyword for the “Company Name” field.

b.) When filling in the “Product Name” or “Software Title” field (depending on the PAD generator you use), use your second most important keyword.

c.) When writing the various length descriptions, write just like you would a Web page description, full of well placed keywords throughout the text.

Tips A and B above are critical! Using your keyword this way forces the download sites that use anchor text (most of them) to make your main keywords your anchor text. Most will use your company name and some will use the software name.

Step 3.) Submit Your Software and PAD File

Submitting your PAD file is easy but can be time consuming. I paid to http://www.softwaresubmit.net to have them do it for me and it was well worth it. After seeing the success of my first run I tried the next level for my second software project, and paid . This got my site 277 permanent inbound links over the span of a couple weeks. You might be able to find an even less expensive service on Google if you search for “shareware submission service” or “software submission.”

If you decide to manually submit to software directories on your own, be sure to check the links at SoftwareSubmit.net for a full list of site names by clicking the “software directories” link contained in each package description. Also check out their FAQ and tips pages for good general information on shareware in general and PAD file creation and hosting.

Step 4.) Monitor and Expand

Now for the really fun part, monitoring your progress. You can do this manually by checking each search engine for your most recent rankings as well as finding and recording each inbound link. This is extremely important. Do whatever it takes and spend as much time as you need to. Here’s what you want to do:

a.) Regularly check your rankings on Google, MSN, Yahoo and AlltheWeb.com at the minimum.

b.) Run full inbound link searches every couple days and record every link you find. Remember to run searches for every variation of your domain name (with the “http” and without; with the “www” and without, etc.)

c.) Perform weekly (or more often) backlink searches and record the resulting data carefully. Make note of any changes including the URLs of pages linked from.

Insider Tip: It’s worth getting a piece of software to do this work for you. Many search engine optimization professionals prefer SEO Elite (http://www.SEOeliteWeb.com) because it is a “master” linking application that also checks ranking, builds reports and monitors everything for you automatically, even when you’re working on something else. It’s also one of the most affordable options at 7.

And finally, strike while the iron is hot! Use this newfound success to help entice others into a reciprocal linking arrangement. There is no better time to attract new partners. Many will want to jump on the bandwagon. Use this opportunity.

SEO Professional Tip: If you get SEO Elite, be sure to use some of their Advanced Features the SEO professionals use like finding “authority links.” Here’s how you do it…

a.) Start a new project. Select project type number 2; “Get links to your website.” And name the project anything you like.

b.) Click the “Add Websites” button on the right and select the top option; “Find High Page Rank Websites using a keyword.”

c.) Click “Next” and choose how many sites you want, the Google Page Ranks, Alexa ranking, etc. Then click “Done” and watch the results gather up top.

d.) Click any page link above to visit the page in question. Click the “Email campaign” link in the middle column to see that SEO Elite has already gathered all the contact information for you.

e.) Finally, if you decide you want to link with the site, just click the “Emailer” button on the bottom and enter your link exchange proposal. Click “Send emails” and you’re done.

That’s it! It’s that easy. A couple hours with SEO Elite each month usually gets me at least 150 new high quality links. Also be sure to try the other “Get links” project types too (like one way links from directories.)

Whether or not you choose to participate in any of the above, you should know that everything that’s put out into the world needs to reflect your personal brand.

Think about the market you have decided to focus on and tailor your online presence to attract them. What does your bio say about you? Does your firm have a LinkedIn page? If you tweet, what does your Twitter page look like? Does your picture reflect your visual brand? Is your logo clear and recognizable? Here are a few of my favorite tips for making sure your social media is on the right course:

Blogs

Again, keep it consistent. My own blog is very clearly branded. It uses my signature black and complements the color with the same tones as my books and website. Even the title reflects my brand—both in the “black and white” and the meaning behind it. I give simple, straightforward advice; black is my signature color. That’s a personal brand. Content is the same idea… stick to what your target audience wants to know and don’t get off track. Make contact information easily visible and identifiable and always put your logo in a prominent place.

LinkedIn

Though it may be harder to brand from a design point of view, you can still be aware of your personal branding when it comes to your LinkedIn account. First, be diligent about updating your information; second, be sure to link to your website, blog or twitter; and third, join networking groups that directly relate back to your area of expertise.

Twitter

If you choose to tweet, make sure you’re staying on topic. Create a filter for the subject of your tweets and make sure all content stays within that filter. On the design side, take advantage of the availability of a custom background. Personalize it with your contact info (or at least your website or blog) and keep colors, logos and photos consistent with your branding. Let people instantly recognize that this is YOUR page and know what to expect.

A few other quick design tips?

Make sure your logo or tagline plays a prominent role as soon as the page appears.
Stick with the same colors and fonts as your website, brochure or business cards, (no need to look like a twin sister, but it should look like a family member).
Be organized in the way you think out placement of buttons such as “search” or “archives” and make sure they are easily spotted.
Make sure headlines look like headlines and not simply blocks of copy and use links or quotes to enhance the readability of your posts.

Whatever medium you choose to participate in, remember to ask yourself one important question: Can someone easily identify the blog as YOURS upon first glance? That doesn’t mean intricate design or flashy graphics, it simply means bringing a sense of organization to the visuals and reflecting your brand in the color, fonts and logos used. Stay true to your personal branding and you’re on the right track.

Social Media – Branding & Franchise Recruitment Tool?

A good social media campaign will act as a very powerful brand building and recruitment tool for start-up franchisors (or those thinking of franchising their businesses in the next year or so).

One of the first things I look at when a prospective franchisor approaches me is a good brand image (or at least the beginnings of one). The next thing I look at or question is its impact on the customer target market (is it well understood; is it well respected; is it something they will tell their friends about; etc).

For any small business trying to build a brand, it is very clear from the outset that very few can afford to spend a ton of money on marketing and advertising to get their brand in the forefront of the consumer’s mind. Now, with the advent of social media and its prevalence in the new generation of consumer – growing a brand couldn’t be easier. Of course it still takes careful planning, design and message architecture, so please don’t minimise the importance of that!

Now – where do you start? What kinds of social media should you be using? Well – it does depend a bit on what your target audience is:

1) As a franchisor

(i.e. which prospective franchisees do you want to attract), and

2) As a business

(i.e. the target customer of the product or service).

The things I would suggest you look into are:

BLOGGING: This is an often misunderstood platform and a lot of people fear it because they think that they have to be writers to do it. Not so. I mean – yes its important to not make huge grammatical and spelling errors because this will lead to an unprofessional reflection on you and your business by default. The thing about blogging is however two-fold: the number of blogger readers in the world is staggering (we are talking in the 100′s of millions) and Google loves the constantly changing and rich content.  For some blogging tips have a read of this article – Top Ten Easy Steps to Starting a Business Blog – by Denise Wiseman.

Denise rightly says: ” Blogging should be one of the cores of your business. It should be right in the middle of your social media mix—the bulls-eye, the main target.”

FACEBOOK BUSINESS PAGE: This is VERY important to set up and I mean VERY important. If you don’t already have a presence on Facebook, then I strongly suggest you get started today. Again – please pay attention to your brand, your message and what you want to get out of the exercise. Social media survives on human qualities – act out or throw your weight around and you’ll soon be cast out from the ‘in crowd’. Social media can help you build your Google CV, but let’s look at some social media etiquette tips first:

Be Helpful: A great way to engage with the crowd is to offer answers, advice and interesting information wherever possible, although there is a definite need for balance when engaging with your audience.
Micro-blogging platforms such as Twitter are great for this type of one-on-one interaction, but you might not want to send out daily articles from your Facebook group as the constant barrage in a personal space will more often than not annoy members.

Never Lose Your Cool: Like on the road, anger on the internet gets you nowhere. View all criticism as constructive and avoid a thread of bad publicity by handling any squabbles in privacy or with tact.

Publish your comments in response to criticism whenever possible to ensure that it is shown that negativity has been attended to, but only look to remove negative comments under extreme circumstances – no one likes to be censored and doing so will probably only provoke more negativity.

Blog: When it comes to promoting content and being social online, don’t only publish your own, but highlight the noteworthy work of others. Spend some time reading interesting blogs, commenting on them and linking back to yours – but don’t just comment for the sake of link creation.
When blogging about others, link back to them. This way, they not only receive a link, but are also aware of the comments made about them.

By giving as much as you receive, and making your content valuable, you’re able to earn your position, along with respect and credibility.

Aggregators and Social Bookmarking: Social bookmarking and content aggregators are great ways to spread your articles and news, but avoid the temptation of only submitting your own content. Submit the content of others in your networks, and create a mutually beneficial approach to seeding content.
Go too far with creating links of no interest to anyone but yourself and you’ll soon be known for bad social media etiquette, if nothing else.

Avoid the Dark Side: eMarketing is known for its ‘spy vs. spy’ code of morality. White hat methods, the good and trustworthy practices of eMarketing, are not always discernable from grey and black hat techniques, but if something doesn’t feel right it probably isn’t.

Avoid covert methods such as creating fake accounts to approach the competition or defend against negative publicity – this is not only morally questionable, but is often extremely obvious.

Remember, you don’t have to be active on social media sites if it isn’t inline with your brand identity, but you do need to claim your space before someone else does. Above all, find the balance between using the media for releasing information, creating an online presence and improving your brand transparency.

Your brand is more than your logo or your website or even your promotional products; it’s the all-encompassing gut feeling that people have about your company or organization. Yes, your logo and your website contribute to that feeling, but so do a million other things: what people say about you, what you say about yourself, your storefront if you have one, even the way you answer the phone and sign your emails. Promotional products, as your brand’s ambassadors, contribute largely to the public’s perception of your company, so when choosing promotional products it’s essential that you know exactly how they will cultivate the brand you want to have. Here are some tips to staying smart and focused when incorporating promotional products into your branding efforts.

1. Develop a strategy. Before you can start branding or rebranding, you have to decide what you want people’s perception to be of your company. After all, you’re going to be attempting to create and refine that perception. When it comes to choosing promotional products, get on the phone with an industry expert and ask her what she recommends: What are your highest selling products? Which products have the best return on investment? What can I get for X amount of money? I want to get noticed at a tradeshow; what products are your best attention grabbers? Do you work for a financial institution recovering from bankruptcy? For example, southeastern United States grocery chain Publix markets itself as a pleasant place to shop (“Where shopping is a pleasure”) and a sensible choice for discerning families. They make their website informational rather than salesy, so that customers feel their relationship with Publix is a partnership rather than a transaction. Their stores are clean and well lit. Their in-house packaging is simple and uncluttered. At every point that a customer interacts with Publix they get the same gut feeling: This store is a pleasant, relaxing place to get what I need for my household. Even the store’s promotional products — reusable black and green grocery totes — say economic and environmental sensibility. And the promotional products are stamped with the white, sans serif “Publix.” Clean and simple, just like every other component of the Publix brand.

3. Be consistent. Alignment goes hand in hand with consistency. Whereas alignment means your brand must always tell the same story, consistency means you must tell it often. According to alignment, your promotional products must communicate the same thing as your stores, logo, website, and customer service. According to consistency, you should repeatedly use the same promotional products to communicate that message.

People in the southeast recognize Publix’s promotional products wherever they go, not because they’ve seen them once, but because they’ve seen them many times: both in the stores and out. And since Publix only offers the totes in two or three neutral colors, it’s easy to recognize the promotional products.

In fact, color is key to consistency. Imagine that Coca-Cola’s cans came in red, orange, green, blue, brown and purple. Their brand would be confusing to consumers, who might no longer read the can as “refreshing.” Additionally, it would be more difficult to recognize Coca-Cola brand promotional products without their signature color. Think of UPS, Home Depot and JetBlue. Or Nickelodeon, Facebook and Twitter. Many of the best brands use one consistent color, right down to their promotional products. Imagine that your store gave away purple plastic cups for a month. Within a week everyone in town would be asking where all the purple cups were coming from. Color is highly influential with memory, and memory is enormously important for brand awareness.

Additionally, consider limiting your promotional products to a few main items. Use promotional products with a high-perceived value so that customers will hold onto them, but make sure you’re also getting a good return on your investment. You don’t have to break the bank to get good promotional products, but at the same time you want to make sure your promotional products are valuable enough to effectively communicate your brand.
