Web design is an elaborate topic considering the fact that many different elements make a good website. Your aim with designing a site is to not only be appealing to your visitors but also getting high rankings for it in the search engines. But even if you are successful with impressing the search engines, it won’t really do much unless you make your site attractive enough for visitors to stay on it. The “bounce rate” of people visiting your site and leaving right then depends on how presentable your website is. This is why focusing on good web design is important if you want effective results on the long run. There are sites that manage to rank well with the search engines but still do bad when it comes to sales. This article will be exploring the various tips that you can use when working with web designing.

If you want your website to be interesting and if you want your visitors coming back then focus on providing useful content that helps them. Your design’s visual elements may work well to bring in the wow factor when they visit your site the first time but to make your site is sticky and to have people coming back, you need to have compelling content. You can do this easily by updating your content on a regular basis since people online are always in search for fresh content. Also, make the content interesting and not boring, as many times you see useful content but no one wants to read it. Avoiding a flat, boring tone is critical so make sure you use a similar tone in writing as you do in talking. And yes, try to keep the content short and readable since your visitors won’t really have the patience to read through big chunks of information. Don’t forget to ask them for any feedback/comments about the site. Interacting with your site visitors will always pay off on the long run. The design on your website needs to be consistent across all the web pages of your site. If you keep changing it from page to page, your visitors might get confused and face great difficulty when they try to find important information on your site. You can achieve this by using the same type of color schemes on all the pages.

The location of your important links should be in one place across the website. Even the fonts that you use should be consistent; use fonts that are readable.

Another important tip that many webmasters ignore is to keep the text layout on your site narrow. It’s irritating to scroll sideways to read from line to line and this may turn off your visitors. Eventually, they may get bored and leave your site, which you definitely don’t want.

This is exactly why you see the newspapers having short columns. Having narrow text columns not only makes it easier to read but is also visually more enticing. In conclusion, successful web design is not as complicated as it sounds. You just need to take care of the smaller details and keep the above tips in mind. Creating a website is easy but creating one that keeps your visitors interested is the real challenge..

Web site promotion is a marketing tip that has been increasing sales for many companies and businesses in recent years. Using web site promotion as a marketing tip requires some work and may mean the need to hire a professional web designer. However, if this marketing tip proves to be effective, the money spent would have been well worth it.

Generating quality traffic to your website is probably the most difficult task for every online marketer. Without quality traffic, you won’t make any sales, and no sales means no profits, and profits are the reason we work on our computers every day (at least it’s the reason why I work on my computer everyday!).


You can get traffic by writing articles and submitting them to article directories. The directories allow you to add a resource box to each article, and in the resource box you place links to your website or blog. The very nature of article writing is viral; any webmaster can re-publish your article on their site as long as they keep your links intact.


If you write informative, easy to read articles, you will develop a following and your articles will be widely distributed across the web. You will get free inbound links, and you will get them indefinitely!


Another benefit to article writing is anchor text. Within your resource box, you should use anchor keywords for each link. Every time someone republishes your article, you will not only acquire free back links, but you will get a virtual vote for your website under the exact keyword phrase of your choice.


If you use “marketing advice” in your keywords, then the search engines will count those links as votes for your website in the search result. If someone performs a search for “marketing advice”, they will inevitably find your website because you have keyword-rich links pointing to your site.


Blog commenting is another popular form of getting traffic. Perform a search for blogs that relate to your website and then comment on the author’s posts. This is very simple and will accomplish two things for you: establish keywords for your website, and will draw direct traffic from the blog itself when readers read your comment and click on your link. Word of caution: spamming irrelevant comments will make people mad! Don’t do it. Make sure every comment you post is relevant to the blog and the author’s post.


Adwords is an effective but potentially expensive method of acquiring targeted traffic to your site. Before you setup an account with Google, make sure you find an online coupon. Usually you can find a coupon that offers free or 0 in clicks. Use it to open your account and then follow their online tutorial. You will be able to create text ads that will be displayed whenever someone enters a specific search phrase (you choose the phrases).


Adwords is an easy and direct method to getting highly targeted traffic, but it can be expensive as some keywords can cost anywhere from to per click. You really need to have an effective landing page that can successfully convert visitors before you start buying traffic from Adwords.


Another method that is used by only the savviest marketers is viral distribution through torrent sites. Here’s how you do it: make a PDF ebook that is loaded with free information about your topic. Inside the ebook make sure you provide direct links to your website and encourage readers to visit your site for even more free information. Then, upload the torrent.


The trick with torrent uploads is to use the right keywords in the title of your torrent. Search engines will place your torrent listing at the top of the search results, and you will gain immediate exposure from two sources: torrent users and people who don’t even know what a torrent is! Make sure you post your website address in the comments section of your torrent upload (this allows non-torrent users to find your site without having to learn how to use torrents).


Those are a few methods for getting traffic to your website. Remember, the ultimate goal online is to make money, and without targeted traffic, you won’t make a dime!

Websites without Marketing are not Cost Effective

            According to a survey conducted by Selling To Small Businesses .com, 49%[1] of small businesses have a website and 13% of small businesses plan to have a website in the next 12 months. As having a company website has definitely become one of the latest business trend’s, creating a website without a proper marketing strategy in place could very well be a waste of money.

            A website without any marketing campaigns running to promote it will just sit in cyberspace, unlikely to be found by anyone let alone a potential customer. Even if it does get indexed by search engines, it is unlikely to be anywhere in the top results. Let’s face it, search engine users very rarely go past the first three pages of search results.[2] And if someone is searching for your business name, most likely they already know who you are. This means that money spent on the design and hosting of the website is wasted as your site is lost in cyberspace.

 

Integrating Non Web-Based Marketing

            It is important to build your business website with a specific marketing goal in mind. Most likely, your site will be focused on generating new leads or (in the case of e-commerce sites) generating actual sales. The marketing campaign does not have to be web-based; depending on the target market, non-web based marketing techniques can work more efficiently.

            If research on the target market indicates that most customers in that market locate your type of business through the phone book, you may want to prepare a marketing campaign that takes out a small ad in the phone book. The purpose of the ad would primarily be to convince the reader to contact you regarding your services.

            The ad should also include a link to your website and a caption suggesting the reader visit the site for more information. The website would then expand upon that advertisement, trying harder to convince those undecided prospects that your service is the best, providing an easy way to contact your business, and to get their information so you can send them e-newsletters, and mailings.

 

Web-Based Marketing

            Web marketing can be effective as well, especially when combined with other sources of marketing. Some web marketing techniques commonly in use today are Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising, which has the benefit of providing free ad impressions, and only costs money when a prospect clicks on your ad to visit your site. PPC is effective because you can bid against your competition for high placement for your ad. Another popular technique in use today is Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO is useful because it allows your site to rank high in the natural search results. The problem with SEO is that it can take a lot of time and investment to rank a site high in the search engines, particularly with a lot of competition.

            Moving Box Warehouse is an example of a company utilizing a targeted web marketing campaign. As a provider of moving boxes, moving kits and moving accessories, Moving Box Warehouse had to face a great deal of competition on its relevant keywords. The budget required to compete head to head with the established moving box companies would have been significant.

             In order to get a better return on investment, a specialized marketing campaign had to be created where Moving Box Warehouse would have the marketing advantage. To do this, they ran a specific adwords campaign on Facebook, Google, and other PPC sites, integrated with a non web based campaign targeting college students and college towns. The PPC campaigns ran only during graduation months. This allowed for Moving Box Warehouse to maximize conversion rates on clicks, as well as network with colleges and universities to provide their website to students. This also had the effect of increasing their SEO naturally, as universities linked to Moving Box Warehouse as a resource.

 

Conclusion

            Business web site development should be approached with a marketing point of view. While it is relatively easy to set up a quick template site with an inexpensive host these days, unless a strategic marketing plan is developed and the site is built to optimize that plan, a business will not be getting much for their money. It may be a wise choice to consult with a marketing expert before attempting to set up your site.

Designing Your Site to Be Search Engine Friendly

Creating a site that is search engine friendly should be an objective of every company that wants to do business on the Internet. Search engines are the most common way for Internet surfers to search for something on the Net. In fact, 85 percent of all people who use the Internet use search engines as their primary way to look for information. By using keywords relating to your company in appropriate places on your site, you can improve how search engines rank you. You want these chosen keywords in the keyword meta-tags as well as in each page’s description meta-tag. Some of the other places where you want to have these keywords are your domain name if possible, your page titles and page text, your Alt tags for graphics, and your page headers. Many search engines place a lot of emphasis on the number and quality of links to a site to determine its ranking. Once you’ve optimized your Web site to be search engine friendly, you are ready to face the challenge of submitting it to the most important search engines. By “search engines,” I’m referring to the combination of search engines, directories, spiders and crawlers. You need to be within the first two pages of search results to ensure your best possible success online.

The E-mail Advantage

E-mail is rapidly becoming one of the most crucial forms of communication you have with your clients, potential customers, suppliers, and colleagues. E-mail is now a widely accessible and generally accepted form of business communication. We are seeing a huge increase in commercial e-mail volume. The reason for this significant increase is understandable given that e-mail is a very cost-effective, time-efficient tool that has a high response rate. E-mail is used to build your community online, sell products and provide customer service, reinforce brand awareness, and encourage customer loyalty.

Add Value with Affiliate Programs

Another way of benefiting from links to your Web site is by developing an affiliate program. Affiliate programs (also called reseller or partnership or associate programs) are revenue-sharing arrangements set up by companies selling products and services. When another site agrees to participate in your affiliate program, it is rewarded for sending customers to your business. These customers are sent to your site through links on your associates’ or affiliates’ Web sites. By developing and offering this type of program, you generate increased business and increased links to your site and increased link popularity for search engines.

Do you know how to get links to your site?

Link building is one of the most significant website promotion strategies. Not only does it give you the opportunity to get traffic from other websites, it is also a key factor in your search engine rankings. When it comes to links, more is better.

There are, however, a few caveats to that notion. These include:

• In order for links to be effective, they must come from websites with topics that are related to yours. If you have a knitting website, for example, links from wholesale car part distributors won’t do you much good.

• You’re better off not having links from so-called “bad neighborhoods.” These include directories that do not review websites before posting them and free-for-all sites. They are highly unlikely to bring you any traffic from their visitors, and the search engines could penalize your site if your link appears there.

• Reciprocal links should be used sparingly and judiciously. There’s no harm in trading links with a few highly relevant sites, but if that’s where all your links come from, you won’t see as much benefit as you would from more one-way links.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, there are many ways that you can get links coming in to your site. Here are some of the most effective.

Write Linkbait

Linkbait is content that just begs to be linked to. It’s informative and easy to digest, and it appeals to your target market. If you write a good piece of linkbait and submit it to social news and media sites, you could end up with a swarm of traffic and many new incoming links.

One of the easiest ways to come up with linkbait is to write a list. Titles such as “Ten Free Pieces of Small Business Software You Can’t Live Without” or “100 Ways to Save Money Without Depriving Yourself” are sure to get lots of attention. So when in doubt, write a list.

Do Some Networking

Social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook and LinkedIn are great places to find potential customers and business partners. They’re also a good way to get inbound links. Just setting up a profile on these sites gives you a link back to your site.

But don’t stop at your profile. Use the site to connect with others who might be interested in linking to you. By actively participating you give yourself the opportunity to build relationships, and even if those relationships do not lead to business, they could lead to links.

Give of Yourself

Helping others is good for the soul, and it can also give you incoming links in return. Simply answering questions on sites such as Yahoo Answers, sharing your knowledge as an About.com guide, or providing testimonials for other Internet marketers gives you the opportunity to build high-quality links. And as a bonus, it will give you the opportunity to build a reputation as an expert in your field.

These techniques are just the tip of the iceberg – you could also distribute press releases, participate in forums, guest post and comment on blogs, and much more. But no matter how you achieve it, getting quality links is crucial to your website’s success.

We have been hearing from everybody about link building and what is the most effective link building services out their but what does Google have to say about all of this. Well finally Google speaks up.

Google’s Maile Ohye is telling everybody what most SEO experts have been telling us for years. If you want your website to get on the first page of Google’s search engines then you need lots of unique content and inbounds links. As you can see unique content is first then link building comes second. So what kind of link building services will help you get the top spot? Lets see.

Google has just admitted that they do not like spammy links. Spammy links are one way link building services that charge a fee to add lots of links that link back to your site all at once. Google wants your links to be more merit based. Your link building should grow slowly and gradually from websites or blogs that are related to your site’s content. This is the most effective link building their is. This will make Google feel like you earned that link because of your content and not because you simply paid for one.

So first start a blog that closely fits your website and create a one way link to your website. Make sure you ping your blog to other sites so they will pick up your content. Also add comments from other blogs with a link back to your site. Just make sure your comment is related to the blog or you are thanking the other member for their site and then add a link to your site.

Creating a video is an effective one way link building service that anybody can do these days. Just record yourself or generate a video content feed talking about you website and include a one way link in your video and on the information chart on the side. Videos will usually get better placement on search engines than just word content. If you send your video to as many video sites as you can you are sure to get a page one ranking for your keyword in no time.

The best one way link you can get will come from websites with a high PR or “Page Rank” with a rating of 4 or higher. Google will keep your link up much longer when it comes from another website that is really well known. There are other link building services that can teach you how to get those link building skills.

So now you have it. That’s all that Google is looking for when it decides to put a certain website on the top page. With good unique content and merit based link building services you can achieve your goal of getting on that top spot on search engines.

Designing and launching a website requires a great deal of thought, consideration, and planning if you want the end result to be attractive and useful for site visitors. Here are five top tips for staying focused on creating the most effective website possible:

Tip #1 – Choose the layout carefully. It’s tempting to “dress up” your website layout with lots of different components just for the novelty of having a ‘cool’ website. The problem is that this kind of complicated design is not very user friendly and can actually cause visitors to leave the site out of frustration or confusion. Instead, stick with a simple design, free of excess clutter like lots of images, extensive menus, or too much content. Your primary goal is to make it easy for visitors to see valuable content and quickly identify what your website is all about.

Tip #2 – Make navigation easy. Look at your navigation menus and sections from the perspective of visitors, for the purpose of making it easy to navigate the site. Homepage navigation links to top level categories should be clear and easy to find, and within each category page there should be clear links to the pages within that topic. Also, use link bread-crumbs throughout the site (e.g. Home -> Category -> Topic -> Sub-topic); this makes it easy for visitors to always know where they are on the site and quickly go back to higher level pages or categories if they so choose.

Tip #3 – Choose comfortable colours. Once again, look at your website from the visitor’s perspective when choosing colours; all colours should be easy to look at and attractive rather than “in-your-face” bold and brilliant. Lean toward natural colour tones whenever possible because these create a feeling of warmth, pleasantness, and comfort. Be sure also that all links and content are distinguishable and easy to read; avoid any colours that will cause strain on the eyes or over stimulate the brain when looked at for an extended period of time.

Tip #4 – Make it user-focused. We just can’t say this often enough because it’s so incredibly important: an effective website absolutely must be user-focused and designed to meet the needs of website visitors. Check that all links and functions work properly, and quickly fix any that have gone astray or are causing errors. Take a good hard look at the functions themselves, eliminating any that make your website run slower or put visitors through unnessary effort, and keeping only those that make your website easier or more convenient to use, or at least have no visible effect. Your goal is to create a website visitors will find usable and trustworthy so they will be enticed to take action and to return in the future.

Tip #5 – Split test for effectiveness. This is perhaps the most valuable action you can take to fine tune your website and improve its performance. You can split test anything from textual content to images to homepage layout to the colour of headings and more, helping to identify those areas of the site that are effective and those that need some changes to become better. It’s especially beneficial when first launching a website but is also a good tool to use periodically to ensure maximum ongoing performance as well.

While these are major points to consider when designing a website that will perform well, there are many different aspects of a website that can affect visitor experience and conversions. Frequently review your website’s effectiveness and continue to educate yourself in the best practices of web design.

Most of the companies today want to establish their business online. However too high a keyword density does not provide effective website promotion as this is considered to be spamming and can lead to your website getting blacklisted.

3. Link building, it is a website promotion that helps search engine ranking. This is the link that appears as anchor text of inbound links for the website. There are three form of Link Building. This are through – one way links, reciprocal links, and three-way linking. One way link is the way of endorsing the site through discussion forum that you can share expertise to other. Get active in online discussion groups and always include your URL in your signature. Another is through Article writing .The articles is used to get a link back to the site and it recognize of being an expert in that topic. Link Exchange is a complementary or competitor site that is related. It is your own link exchange by asking sites complementary to yours and to put your link on their pages and you’ll do likewise. It is the number of links pointing to the particular site that will increase traffic. Three-way linking requires at least one person in the trade of two websites. It has different domains and preferably should be hosted in different IP Address. They get traffic between the sites, and the two websites get full benefit of the inbound links. 
Last, but not least, is using your site visitors and customer networks for website promotion by spreading the word about the services your site provides. You could consider creating a video to place in social networking sites like YouTube or perhaps write an article for another site. Once you get the ball rolling, there will be nothing to stop your website promotion.
