An article marketing strategy is one of the easiest and least expensive strategies for marketing a website. Any business website that needs to be marketed can be promoted with the use of promotional articles. These are placed both on the website and on other websites in order to bring attention to the business website. If done correctly, it can also raise the search engine page rank of a website. Marketing Article Placement There are a number of online places that a marketer can place their marketing articles, and using a large number of these websites is part of an overall article marketing strategy. While it’s important to have some marketing articles on the website itself, they are also needed on outside links to provide the site with backlinks. These backlinks are a marketing strategy that uses the behavior of search engines to get a better position in search results. Each time that a website links to a site, that site gets a little bit of recognition from the major search engines. More links means more recognition, and each link gives it more credibility. With many links from many different sites, the search engines that crawl the millions of websites that mention most search terms will generally rank the ones with plenty of links higher than the ones without them. Get Backlinks Getting these backlinks means having the type of marketing articles that will make the article marketing strategy work. They must be high quality, relevant and plentiful in order to be effective for bringing in readers and customers. If they are written well and have plenty of keywords that relate directly to the topic of the website, they have a good chance of being effective when used for backlinks on various other sites. Article directories, blogs, and sites that are relevant to the subject matter are all places that cab help to build those links. Increase Page Rank On the website itself, having plenty of relevant content is also a necessity. There are many ways to get a large number of content pages, including using content syndication to get inexpensive, keyword-relevant items for the site. The content on the site and the marketing items on other sites work together to add page rank and attract readers. With a number of interlinked website pages and a large number of backlinks that point readers to them all, a website has a good article marketing strategy in place.

When it comes to promoting your site, you should learn how to incur free blog traffic. Yes, there is such thing as “free” traffic on blogs, but at the same time there’s also “paid” blog traffic. To buy blog traffic however is not always a good investment, as increasing blog traffic can be done on several ways without spending a dime. Thus, if you want to learn more on how to double your blog traffic at the same time gather more inbound links, then here are some easy ways you can do it:

Join free blog directories. In these directories you can submit your blog and have it linked with other registered blogs under your niche, and from there people who view those member blogs would be able to see yours as well since they are related. You just need to have some patience during the first few days of being part of blog directories, as your blog still has to be properly categorized before it becomes available for viewing.

Another great way to increase free blog traffic is by making comments to other blogs in your niche community. Through this method you get to converse with other blog owners and developers and see their viewpoints about your topic. By making comments, viewers of those blogs would more likely check out yours as well, especially when your opinions greatly tickled their interest. Most of all, you get to connect with the people behind those blogs, and eventually build partnerships and link strategies with them.

Increasing blog traffic can also be done by joining social media and networking sites. Social networking sites are places where real people go to and update their profiles, thus real people would be able to check out your blog once you showcase it in these sites. You can then form an account in MySpace or Facebook so that you get linked with the members and see how they can help boost traffic by getting more inbound links to your blog.

You may also generate blog traffic by adding your blog URL on your signature at forums. By joining at forums, you get to discuss different issues with other webmasters and end users belonging to your chosen niche, thus you also get a lot of helpful information from them. You get to stay connected, while at the same time provide significant regular updates to your blog.

Another thing you should remember is that viewers love dynamic and interactive content. They easily get bored with reading, thus they need some eye candy. In order to increase inbound links to your blog, you should post videos and images on your blog for them to check out. Most high-traffic blogs have images posted on their pages, and you can do the same thing as well.

Free blog traffic can also be derived from ping service aggregators such as Pingomatic and Pinggoat. These aggregators alert RSS feeds of those who have subscribed to blogs related to your niche, and your blog can be featured as well as a relevant page to visit. Thus you wouldn’t have to worry about increasing blog traffic because this service will do the job for you.

Optimizing a site for the engines includes finding the right words and phrases and including them in the appropriate sections without overusing them.

Back links are also essential to proper site promotion and a site that has relevant incoming links pointed to the site gains status in the eyes of most search engines. Links pointing to a new website could be created by trading links with a non competing but related business site. They could also be gained by submitting relevant informational articles in exchange for a link pointing to the new business website.

A site owner may feel that some methods of promotion are preferable to others and embark on their own marketing campaign. When you meet people for the first time, take a few lessons from the social media gurus and apply their secret tactics to your offline networking strategy.

Secret #1- Social means both talking and listening. Listening is just as important as talking

When you interact on a forum or leave comments on a blog, you first read what the other person wrote and then you comment. If you constantly leave comments about yourself and don’t interact and comment off-topic, you will make a bad first impression.  Other members will ignore you.

This same philosophy applies when you are first introduced to people. You want to learn about them and ask questions. How can you learn about a person if you are constantly talking about yourself? Pay attention, listen and ask appropriate questions according to the conversation topic.

Secret #2- Widgets that instantly find thousands of followers don’t always give the best return on investment

Social media gurus always tout the benefits of handy widgets that automate Facebook and Twitter followers. Do you realize that the 5,000 people you just added probably won’t be interested in your products or services? You just wasted time and money adding people who don’t care about what you’re pitching.

Use this same social media approach when you attend networking events and collect business cards. Don’t just pitch your products/services to just anyone you meet. Talk to people who might actually benefit from what you offer. It doesn’t make sense to attend a networking event filled with seniors if you are a nightclub owner whose target audience is 21 year-old college students.

Secret #3- Freebies don’t always mean more subscribers, BUT worthwhile freebies make all the difference

Freebies don’t always mean instant success. Contests don’t always draw thousands of new members to your site either.  In the social media world, if you make your prize too abstract or unappealing, you will drive away visitors.

This social media tactic also applies to freebies offered in the offline world. If you attend networking events and conduct raffles or contests, make your prizes worthwhile for guests. Target your audience and get inside their heads. You want your guests to actually use the product or service you’re giving away.

Secret #4- Don’t scare away others with the “me me me” syndrome

If you start every blog comment or tweet with “I did” or “I want” then you are headed down the “me me me” syndrome path.  Social media is all about helping others. Being an expert in your field doesn’t mean acting like an egomaniac.

If you start every networking conservation with “I” you will be met with glazed over expressions. Don’t be surprised when people make excuses to leave the conversation. Remember the “social” in social media and apply that to your offline conversations. Social means give and take – social doesn’t mean a one-sided, it’s all about me conversation.

Secret #5- Always use professional Net-iquette

Don’t come across as rude or condescending in your Facebook or Twitter updates. You never know who will come across your updates in the cyber world, and how it can come back to haunt you.

This tip should always be applied to offline networking. Always remember to practice professional, ethical etiquette whenever you meet new people. Think before you speak, and remember that you represent your company/business. First impressions make a lasting impression, so always put your best face forward.
