As a website owner, I’m completely confused about Google’s algorithm. I think I speak for thousands of website owners when I say this.
No matter how much time, effort and money I put into doing things right by Google’s standards, for the life of me, I can’t seem to crack the code. From publishing keyword-rich content on a daily basis to optimizing my website with keyword-rich meta data to building inbound links from reputable websites to marketing my site every chance I get, my life revolves around trying to understand the intricacies of the Google algorithm (which, for all intents and purposes seems to be locked down tighter than Fort Knox).
Sure, I get some organic traffic from Google. Thank God, since I can’t afford to buy any. Apparently I’m doing something right, right?
But when I do a Google search for layouts and backgrounds – the two most significant keywords driving traffic to MySpace customization websites like mine – I’m a blip on the search results radar screen. Actually, I’m a blip of a blip of a blippity blip.
Believe me, I’m not a sore loser. I very much respect the top ten layouts and backgrounds websites that have apparently deciphered the seemingly undecipherable code-based GoogScore thingamajig algorithm doohickey.
However, after visiting some of these sites, I’m astounded at just how unbelievably annoying they are.
For starters, it’s virtually impossible to get past their home pages with all the pop-ups, pop-overs, pop-unders, pop-in-betweens, pop-in-front-ofs, pop-behinds and pop-in-your-face-when-you-don’t-expect-it ads.
Once you’re done playing the “skip this ad, skip this ad, skip this ad” game, it’s time to play the “where the heck are the layouts and backgrounds?” game. A link that says “layouts” usually takes you to a section of the website that has absolutely nothing to do with layouts and everything to do with nothing remotely related to layouts. At other times, a link to “layouts” redirects you to another website where you once again play the “skip this ad, skip this ad, skip this ad” game, followed by the “where the heck are the layouts and backgrounds?” game, followed by the…well, you get the point.
To add insult to injury, most of these ads flash or talk or sing or buzz. Wonderful.
Dearest Google, I’m asking you to please add “User Annoyance” to your algorithm. In my opinion, non-annoying websites are far more valuable to Google searchers than websites that cause a user’s head to explode. Sure, these eye-bleeding websites might have a million in-bound links and tons of content, but what this really means is that more and more Google users find more and more crappy websites with crappy interfaces and even crappier pop-in-your-face crap. The end result? More and more annoyed Google users.
I propose websites with a high UA (User Annoyance Score) be penalized and sites with a low UA get a boost in the rankings. Or is User Annoyance already considered part of a website’s Content Quality Score? If so, exactly how does Google define User Annoyance as it pertains to Content Quality, and exactly how much weight does it carry?
Like I said, I’m confused.

In creating a Google AdWords campaign, advertisers often spend most of their time creating their ads and researching their keywords. There is often little or no thought to where the surfer will be sent when the ad does its job and generates a click. Often advertisers send the surfer to the home page of their website, hoping the website will do the rest of the work.

These advertisers are neglecting a very important part of their AdWords campaign: the landing page. A good landing page is just as important as a good ad, good keywords and strategic bidding. By creating an effective landing page advertisers can increase conversions, which will make their campaigns more competitive and profitable.
When creating your landing page remember to make it specific to the ad that is sending the traffic. As with everything else, the landing page must be highly targeted. If a surfer clicked an ad expecting to find gold plated doorknobs, then you better make sure the corresponding landing page has just that. There is nothing worse than having a customer who is ready to buy but can’t.
The role of your ad is to get clicks. The role of your landing page is to convert those clicks into leads or sales. Make sure you can convert the surfer within 3 clicks or less. If the surfer has to click more than 3 times to buy your product you will probably lose the sale. Ideally you want the surfer to click only twice, once on your ad, and once on your landing page to get to your order page. That’s it. The more clicks you have, the less sales you make.
Remember that surfers are impatient. You need to give them what they want with as little effort as possible on their part. Therefore, it is important to always keep your original objective (conversions) in mind, as well as to refer to the specific keywords and calls to action in your ad, when creating your landing page.

The landing page is where you will use all your copywriting skills to complete the sale. As I said before, the goal of your ad is to get the click, and the goal of your landing page is to get the sale. It is in your landing page where you have all the room you need to explain all the benefits and features of your product or service. It is important to remember that your landing page is your sales page.

Google Strikes Again! Why Reciprocal Links Are Now Worthless

It is common knowledge that Google went from content based ranking to a link based ranking algorithm a few years ago. The way most people discovered this was by seeing their pages disappear from page one overnight. Unfortunately that same lesson is being learned again today as Google shifts from an “all link” model of determining popularity to one of “inbound only.”
It should not come as a big surprise. It?s been happening slowly for the past year or so but is now in overdrive. Pages that have dominated top spots for years are suddenly disappearing without a trace and linking is the key. In short, reciprocal links no longer count as they once did. Google expects to see one way inbound links in its top ranked sites. The reason apparently being that worthy sites can attract links without having to reciprocate.
Talk about a popularity contest! It reminds me of junior high school on Valentines Day where the most popular students would be buried in cards while sending out only a few of their own. Google even refers to inbound links as a form of ?votes.?
So how does Google judge the value of inbound links? Let?s just say a nod from the prom king or queen is a lot more desirable than one from the kid who had to escort his first cousin to the last school dance due to lack of options. But even still, every vote counts even if just a little.
I agree that it is sad and unfair that quality of content counts for so little but Google, perhaps naively, believes the links (or votes) will go to the most deserving sites naturally. I can?t change Google?s mind, but I can help you crack Google?s link value code. Just follow these simple steps.
First: Know your link targets. You want pages whose topics relate to your topic and with the highest PR possible.
Note: PR refers to Google PageRank which is a value assigned to the page on a scale of 1 to 10. Pages begin at 0 and earn PR points for various reasons. There are plenty of ones and twos but anything above three gets scarcer and more valuable. You can learn a page?s PR by using the Google Toolbar available at http://toolbar.google.com.
Second: Do not bother linking just to the home page, as was the proffered method not long ago. Google now likes to see deep links so make the majority of your links go to pages at least one level deep below the home page. And be sure that page is named after its main keyword, such as ?main-keyword.htm? or ?main-keyword.htm.?
Third: Make sure the pages you are linking to, link back to your home page by using their main keyword as anchor text.
Note: Anchor text is simply a clickable text link. It is usually a different color; such as blue and underlined to show it is a link. You want your main keyword to be a clickable link leading from the topic page to the home page.
Fourth: Be sure the inbound links you build consist of your main keywords embedded in anchor text.
Recap: So if ?online business services? was the main keyword the words ?online business services? would be embedded as anchor text leading to a page called ?online-business-services.htm? and that page would in turn link to the home page using ?online business services? as its anchor text link.
Fifth: Google scans not only the area immediately surrounding the anchor text but also the whole page of text around it. It will be looking for consistency of topic throughout the page so be sure your link is coming from a page closely related to the topic of the keyword you are targeting.
Note: This last part is one of the most important because if you can control what is on the page you are linking from, you can rocket to the top of Google. You can do this through blog postings, article publishing and even simple directory submissions. If you are in a hurry, try a pre-packaged solution that removes the guesswork. I use a combo training and automated software system called ?Link A Minute? (http://www.linkaminute.com) that does the trick for me. There are some good ones out there so look around and find one you like. Just do not try any link farms if you value any future placement on Google.
Follow these tips and you can steal a top spot on Google in no time.

Google adsense is a program that enables web site owners to place relevant ads on their pages. The ads appear with content that is similar to the content. How the user views the ads can affect the adsense earnings.
The publisher, of course, cannot control the ads content. This is performed with the robot of the adsense. What the user can control is the appearance of the ads or what they will look. It will be amazing that the look of the ads will affect the earnings as will be discussed.
When placing the Google adsnse ads, the publisher must select the most relevant colors that mach the look of the webpage. This will make the overall page look as one unit. If the ads are put with different colors than the feel of the web page, the visitor may neglect the ads because it will be considered as a different part of the web page.
When talking about the look of the ads, two actors must be considered: the color and the fonts of the Google adsense ads. One ad unit can take more than one color. The publisher for example can set one color for the title of the ad, another color for the body and another one for the URL below the ad.
Besides the color, the font must be considered. As with the colors, the font must be the same as the font of the text. This will make the ads look as an internal part from the web page and encourage the visitors to click the ads.
Once the ads are designed with the proper fonts and colors, the publisher or the web designer must determine the best place to put the ads. What meant by the best place is the must visible place to the visitors and which can be always seen. This will enable more clicks. There are many places that can be chosen. For example, the ads can be placed in te top of the page to be visible. It ca also be aced after the titles so that the visitor consider it as the nest words after the title.
Tips for fast Adsense Earnings
Researches showed that the eyes of the visitors to the sites often fell on the top left of the page. Thus when the visitor opens the site, he will first see the top left corner of the page. This can be exploited in determining the Google adsense ads placement. It can be clearly put in the top left corner based o the researches. Many people also put the Google adsense ads in the top right corner as it will be visible also.
A note for Google adsense placement is that it depends on the web site design and the previous tips is general. The designer must choose the best place and colors based on the web site he owns. Clearly every web site has its own Google adsense design. Different adsense design other than the above techniques can bring give results depending on the site layout.

Three Fail Proof Linking Strategies for Google SEO

In 2006, many SEO experts agreed that Google put about 60% of it’s emphasis of ranking any given web page on it’s links. In 2007 that number shot up to between 70% and 75%. Now, in the latter half of 2008 up to 85% of your Google ranking depends on how it’s linked. Or, more specifically, your success depends upon the quality and number of inbound links.
Google looks at everything from the “authority level” of the linked sites to their “PageRank” and even the IP class they use (Internet Protocol designation.) While we don’t have hours to get into every little detail, I have provided three simple surefire ways to get hundreds of top rate inbound links to any page or your site you wish. And this is the absolute fastest way to get on top of Google and stay there for the long haul. So, here we go…
Google SEO Linking Strategy One: Hire a blog reviewer.
Hiring a blogging pro is a fast way of getting the links you want. Here’s how it works… You are basically hiring a blog reviewer to chat up your Website. You set the tone of what is said and even give them acceptable working parameters to meet, such as the blog’s traffic rating, type of blog and overall popularity.
You can hire independent people from services like eLance.com, Guru.com or RentaCoder.com or you can use a service that specializes in blog reviewers for hire, like http://www.PayPerPost.com. Personally, I like PayPerPost because it’s their specialty and this is their “posties” livlihood, so they tend to do a great job. It’s extremely reliable and great for social networking but considerably slower and ultimately more expensive than the following methods if your goal is simply link building.
Google SEO Linking Strategy Two: Use article marketing focused on your site’s topic.
Offering free yet valuable content to the publishers, and ultimately readers, of blogs, newsletters and article directories is among the the fastest and most reliable ways to get high quality inbound links with minimal expense. But even more important to some is that if you share your expertise the right way, you will likely become a recognized expert in your field in no time.
People have filled entire books on the subject of article marketing so let me just hit the highlights here. This will be enough to get you started and help your name become trusted by both publishers and readers alike. Just remember these six simple guidelines…
1.) The article has to accomplish two things. First, it has to be 100% legitimate and not contain any inflated facts or sales pitches. And second it absolutely must present real value to the reader and the publisher. Don’t ever write an article just for your own sake. A solely self serving article will be immediately transparent to the publisher and to most readers. Most people understand you want something in return for sharing your knowledge and are very happy to oblige a mutually beneficial arrangement, such as a great article for a link back in your bio.
2.) Obey the rules of where you are submitting your work. This is extremely important! Don’t waste an editor or publisher’s time. Be sure to select the best, and most descriptive category possible for your submission.
3.) You can (and in my opinion, should) write in a casual, conversational style but be careful to spell check the article and review it for clarity before submitting it. Once you have written something, especially something with your name attached to it, it will be a representation of you.
4.) Make the article the appropriate length for what you have to say. Don’t drone on or cut it too short. Most article directories have guidelines about how long they like to see submissions. The same goes for newsletters. If you can’t find this info for the directory you like, sticking between 500 and 1,000 words is usually a safe bet and usually up to 1,250 is OK. If you have more to say, consider splitting it into multiple articles that deal with one specific topic each.
5.) Be brief in your bio section. If your article is well written and contains similar words to the keywords you want to be found for, 350 characters (or about 40 words) should be more than enough to tell a little about yourself, your services with one or two relevant keywords properly placed. Just be sure to use those keywords as anchor text when linking to the page that covers that keyword’s topic on your site. Many directories will let you have two links in the bio section and all allow at least one.
6.) And I saved the big one for last. Provide unique content to each article directory. No article or newsletter publisher wishes to have a bunch of duplicate content so carefully rephrase at least 30% to 35% of the article to make it unique. This will help both the publisher and the quality of your resulting inbound your links.
Big Tip: Writing dozens or even hundreds of article variations to eliminate duplicate content can take a great deal of time. Then manually submitting them to hundreds of directories takes even longer. A nice solution is using an article distribution service that allows you to enter slight variations to specific sections of your article and then combines them in unique ways to provide unique content for the search engines and readers. I am NOT talking about a system that creates robotic substitutions based on replacing similar words from a thesaurus. That produces junk. I’m talking about a system that allows you to submit your own text with alternate sentences or even whole paragraphs. This works amazingly well and can easily create over one thousand article variations based on about twenty extra minutes of your time when you submit your article. And of course, write as many variations of your bio as you can too.
One system that does a great job is available at http://www.SubmitYourArticle.us. They even review the article to ensure it is a good candidate for publication, which gives you advice from a professional editor for free. They do it to help protect their own reputation as well but the benefits to you are immeasurable.
Google SEO Linking Strategy Three: Use a three way linking system.
Google has discounted the use of straight reciprocal links to the point that many people feel they are not worth the time and effort to obtain. I still use them sparingly but I avoid reciprocal linking systems like the plague. Google hates them and they are so easy to detect that you might as well put a banner on your site saying “Hey Google, I use a link farm!”
Three way linking, however, is another story. Reciprocal linking is very easy to detect but 3 way links are altogether different. It works like this… Site 1 links to Site 2 and then Site 2 links to Site 3. And finally Site 3 links to Site 1, or even to another site in the chain. In short; every link is a true and verifiable one way inbound link.
If you are part of a group of similar sites, this is well worth doing. But if you need to build links quickly or don’t have the time to set this up yourself, you can use a service like 3 Way Linker (http://www.3WayLinker.com). It’s the ideal “set it and forget it” option and gives you full control over important aspects of linking.

Want High Google Rankings? Build it for Humans!

If you want your website to receive lots of free search engine traffic from Google, or any other search engine for that mater, build it as though it was mean for human beings to read. Seriously. The search engines are way too smart for us to waste our time trying to outfox them. Instead, give them what they want.
If people would put as much effort into building a user friendly site with value for its visitors as they do in trying to outfox the engines, they would have what they are seeking…plenty of free traffic. I think part of the problem is that so many people are thinking short term. Folks, it takes time to build organic search engine derived traffic. But then you end up with a nice long-term income.
There are of course a variety of factors that determine how much organic traffic you can obtain that are out of your control. For instance, if you choose a topic that very few people are interested in, it will be very difficult to get large numbers of targeted traffic. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and it may well be a good thing. I have a website about one of my inventions, a selective asparagus harvester. I think that in the United States there are only a few hundred asparagus growers, and hence I expect very few visitors to the site. If only one visitor buys one machine it will be a 0,000 plus sale, and well worth the effort of putting up the site.
What I consider to be one of the most important rules for getting great rankings in the search engine results is that you write for a human, and for the most part, an English speaking human with good grammar and use a spell checker. This doesn’t apply if you are a non-English speaking site, obviously.
The reason should be obvious, if word processing programs can not only check spelling, but check grammar as well. If I was a search engine and I was comparing sites to see who to put on the first page of results, and one site had poor grammar, then that would be an obvious point to consider. Spammy sites are far more likely to have poor grammar and bad spelling than legitimate sites.
A word about keywords; do your research and use one of the online keyword research tools. A common problem with websites is poor keyword research. If people do not search for the keywords then even though you are #1, you still don’t get any traffic. There is no substitute for keyword tools and good research.
Optimize each page of material for one or two keyword phrases. Do not attempt to optimize for single word keywords unless there are some very unusual circumstances. It is far easier to capture multiple word phrases. Where ever you put your keyword phrases, make it sound natural. Don’t use them too often. The engines are watching. Work them into your title tag. If your title does not mention you keywords, then the search engines give it far far less importance. It doesn’t hurt to have some keyword phrases in your image alt tags, and in your description tag.
Use a simple clean layout. In recent patent documents Google brings up the idea of web page clutter being a factor in ranking of web pages. If you make the site design simple and pleasing to the eye, you will have a better chance of a good ranking than if your design is sloppy and cluttered.
Content is of course, as always, king. Great content is an absolute requirement. The better your content the more visitors you will get. Part of great content is lots of it. I like to find the best keywords I can, then put up at least 10 pages of information relating to each set of keywords. By having your keyword phrases in a number of different settings you have a much greater chance of visitors picking your site to visit when they search for those keyword phrases. If your content is poor or your usability is not good, your visitors will “bounce off” of your site and the search engines will notice. If your visitors stay for long periods the engines notice that too.
Another thing that great content will attract is links. Lots of inbound links can do wonders for your ranking. If you have really valuable content the links will find you. It does take time, but it does happen. You can actively seek out and trade links with other appropriate sites. Write some articles and submit them to the article marketing sites. They allow you to include links to your site. You not only pickup links, but the articles will drive traffic to your site too.
Once you have it all put together, then you have to wait. It just takes loads of time to gain Google’s trust. Often I begin getting some search engine traffic within a few weeks of getting a new site up, but then a month or two later my traffic drops to zero. Then after months and months of little or no traffic I begin to get s trickle of traffic and it slowly grows till about two years after publishing it. If it isn’t doing well after two years then you best start changing things and doing testing to see what’s wrong.
Keep improving your site keeping in mind that it is for humans, not search engines. The search engines are getting better and better and finding high quality human friendly and useful sites, so by creating just that type of site, you assure your website’s future.

So you want to be one page one google and page one bing? PAGE ONE GOOGLE are you kidding me? For any keyword?
Yes, I am telling you it is entirely possible to be on page one of Google and page one of Bing and all the major search engines (and the minor ones for that matter-but why? hardly anyone uses those).
First of all to get on page one of Google or Bing you have to think about this: There is already someone on page one of google and page two of google! So what does that mean? It means if there is already someone there, then YOU can be there! Someone has already done it!
You just have to be as smart about getting there as they were, or smarter! ]
I charge a ton of money to get people there because what I have discovered over the past 15 years works! plain and simple. For those who want to get their company and website to page one Google and page one Bing, listen up, I am going to tell you a few key points to help you get there……..or rather, what NOT to do!
Why would you want to be on page one of Google or Bing anyway? All that traffic, all that attention……haven’t you worked long and hard enough so you now deserve to be hidden and not noticed? GET OFF of YOUR Quest to be on page one of Google……Make sure you are following these items exactly!
Here are a few DO and DON’TS (Don’t do the following unless you WANT to be one page one Google or page one Bing)
1. Do NOT put your keyword in your URL- Google doesnt like that, and when researching for relevancy, people always like to have to look deep for their answers, it makes them feel better.
2. Do NOT include your Keyword in your domain name – It just confuses people and especially the search engine spiders
3. Never include your keyword in your title tag – This practice is sure to get you banned!
4. Don’t put you keyword in your description tag either! EVER!
5. Don’t even think of including your keyword in your H1, H2, or H3 tags – They are there just for looks!
6. Don’t use any keywords in your Alt test image tags – no one uses computers that are old or slower anymore!
7. Over stuff your index page with your keywords, the more the better……..Google won’t even notice!
8. Link your site to other websites that have nothing to do with your product, company or service.
9. Immediately send your visitors to another page other than the one they clicked on, using meta refresh
10. Place your keywords in invisible text on each page!
11. Never use any anchor text in inbound links to your site.
12. Don’t get listed in sites like DMOZ directory. People do not need to find you!
13. Getting listed in Yahoo’s directory is way overrated, DON’T do it!
14. If you have a site that is older than 1 year, dump it. Site age works against you, Google likes new and fresh sites! (call me before you do this and we’ll dispose of your old site, heh heh)
15. Cloak your site so that when you present one page to the search engine spider, you present another to everyone else – Google loves to guess!
16. Buy all your links from link farms! For sure! Google likes it when you “think outside the box”
17. Be sure and put all your text into graphic format, so that the search spiders can see them better
18. DO NOT build links over time and make sure, do not try to build links with other sites that have high page ranks or happen to be in the same industry as yours. Google likes diversificaiton.
There you have it, the 18 Top Ways to insure that you will NEVER be on page one of Google, Bing, Yahoo or most any search engine.
Now as you know, there are many factors to page one Google, Bing and Yahoo dominance, but this is a great place to start and get noticed.
Seriously,each of these search engines, Google especially, are constantly changing the way they rank and show things…..this is a good thing. It makes it better for the user. More and more relevancy. Each time someone searches for something on the web, they want to find it, plain and simple.
My hat’s off to Google, Bing and Yahoo for doing such a great job at this and continuing to fine tune what makes that happen. It makes the whole experience better for everyone and it makes it even more important when you are planning or redoing your website, to make it relevant and make it true to what it’s really about.
Getting page one google placement is king. Start by being smart about and thinking like your customer or end user would think (and don’t forget to pay attention to the 18 things above!)

You have probably seen the “Get Number 1 Keyword Position Instantly for any website” self-proclaimed SEO experts and consultants all over the web. I am sure some of them can actually do that through their so-called secrets, but what if your website sucks? You will have spent all that money and time stuffing your site full of keywords, altering your site’s content to the point where it barely makes sense to humans and you have achieved your Ultimate Goal — “Google Domination”. That is the problem — your goal.
Shouldn’t your goal be to grow your business, get customers, and sell your product or services?
Your site should be designed for people, not just search engines.
I’m sure you understand Google is never going to buy your product — but neither are people if they follow your top ranked link and find… nothing useful.
Can your site be found? SEO can help – but it is one small piece of the greater whole. Quality content which is updated regularly, site design & structure, and insightful marketing are what will make you “Findable”.
It is too easy to get caught up in the competitive nature of search engine ranking for keywords and lose sight of what you are really trying to do. Good quality, regularly updated content is the foundation of any internet marketing SEO strategy.
The job of the search engine is to direct users to what they are looking for. By trying to trick the search engines, you are trying to trick potential customers. Not a great first impression. Make sure you are able to give users what they are looking for and it will be much easier to get that high rank you want. Give your website viewers useful, high quality content such as videos or informative or entertaining blog posts and you will be rewarded with better PageRank, repeat views, quality leads and increased sales!
SEO used to refer to things like making sure the structure and navigation of a site is user friendly, efficient in size and speed, and making sure your title and meta tags matched your message. It still is all that, but the term has been abused by “internet marketers” who can’t seem to figure out how to market anything more than information about “internet marketing”. It is almost like the work at home schemes where you buy a report on how to sell the same report to other people.
That does not mean that SEO should be ignored. Search engine optimization really is essential to the success of your site. However, it must be more than just keyword tricks and those should not be the main part of your strategy. “Real” and effective SEO is not just all the magic tricks and schemes, but is a process that should be taken into account in all phases of development and marketing. Your content should be clear, concise and effective in getting your message across. If it does that, your keywords will already be in it! Your website or blog must function properly — people (and search engines) need to be able to navigate around it. For SEO, quality content is step one, user-friendliness or “usability” is the next step before starting keyword meta tag manipulation and backlink building. Really, most of it should be done all at the same time. It is that holistic synergy thing or whatever new buzzwords I come up with to say “your stuff all has to work together toward the same goal, with each part enhancing the ability of the other parts to achieve their individual goals because it works so much better that way”. (This is why marketing people use buzzwords.) A good internet marketing consultant (like Pittsburgh SEO Consultant, Ker Communications) knows this.
And yes, all those SEO rules and criteria you have read about are very important, too. But they are constantly changing. Keeping up to date on what is important to the search engines — keyword placement, title tags, link popularity, inbound link text, H1 usage, what social media sites have bookmarks to the site, what color socks the web developer was wearing — that requires dedication, continuous research, and a true passion for this line of work… or at least a slightly obsessive compulsive personality.
To do it well also requires a talent in addition to knowledge and diligence. The ability to gain insight regarding what people will type into the search box, what they will click on when they see it, and what will be useful to them and will work for your goals. SEO services work well on their own, but work much better when integrated with the design process, marketing, and even video production. Quality content combined with technical excellence and insightful analysis and marketing instinct. Synergy.

How to Find News Stories on Google

If you want to know about a very popular newsworthy event, itâs not hard to find on the Internet. There are an abundance of new websites and news information all over the net. However, you might want be looking for something specific, local, or otherwise little known or covered. Google is a great resource for getting all the top news, plus find that hard to get news information.
From Googleâs home page, click on the News category at the top of the page. You will be redirected to Google Newsâa search engine solely for news stories of all kinds, lengths, and sources. Youâll see a search bar at the top of the page where you can enter the keywords of exactly what you are looking for. Or, you can browse for news stories from the list of categories on the left sidebar:
Top Storiesâfor the biggest news stories of the day
Worldâfor global news stories
U.S.âfor top news stories of the country
Businessâfor commerce, trading, and company news
Sci/Techâfor new stories, experiments, and developments in the science and technology world
Entertainmentâfor news about celebrities, movies, and music, and television
Sportsâfor various sports related news
Healthâfor new discoveries and developments in health and health care
Spotlightâfor unique, interesting, and entertaining stories of all topics
Most Popularâfor the hottest news stories across the board.
When clicked, each of these headings will list the top stories from their perspective categories, as well as pictures and other links.
Under these categories are three option on how to view news stories. You can view only headlines, only pictures, or all news.
If you are looking for a particular story, or stories about a particular person or event, etc., type the name or other related keywords into the search bar and click âSearch News.â Once you click on the article heading, you will be redirected to the site where the news story originated, where you can usually comment on, print, email, and see related links to the story.
Next to the search bar at the top of Google News is a link for an advanced news search. You can specify the exact dates or dates the story was released to get past news stories. You can also narrow down your news search results to the news source, the geographical location of the news source, the location of the stories, the name of the author of the news story, specify where the keywords you typed appear in the story (title, body, etc.)
These options can be very helpful if you are looking for local news only, you prefer a certain author or media company, or youâre trying to find a story you saw another time and are having trouble finding again.
With the wide variety of options, multiple news sources, and large collection of news stories that can only be obtained online, Google News is sure to have the story youâre looking for, perspectives from all angles, and a variety of educational and entertaining opportunities.
