Digital Marketing – Missed Opportunities 1

Digital Marketing – Missed Opportunities 1

There has never been more ways for Digital Marketing experts to reach their customers. Beyond the traditional methods for marketing that are still thriving after all these years, there are the hundreds and thousands of digital methods available, with new opportunities opening up every hour of every day. Consumers can now be reached absolutely anywhere and at anytime. Marketing materials are available on our phones, in our cars, in public bathroom, at work, on the road and everywhere in between. Still, despite this pervasive nature of marketing, many companies are missing some easy opportunities to reach, engage and communicate with their audience. While there is always a risk of marketers overreaching their grasp, it would be even more unfortunate if audiences who are seeking a product or who may be particularly receptive to a marketer’s offerings were never made aware of the particular product or service. In this article we will examine some ways in which marketers can reach audiences by using methods they may not have considered.

Twitter for Large Businesses – If you own a business of any size or type, you should have a Twitter presence. While many companies are either on Twitter or are presently devising a strategy to join, any presence is better than zero presence. For the larger companies, the advantages and reasons for being on Twitter are quite clear. By having a Twitter presence, these large companies can put a face on their company, and that face can directly interact with their large audience. Customers like showing their loyalty to their trusted brands by following them on Twitter, spreading the word to their networks, and keeping up with their favored brand’s updates. Brands enjoy this relationship as well because it allows them a direct and instant line of communication with their loyal public, while giving them a glimpse into what people are saying about them, and what the general consensus is of their brand. This open line of communication can be used for all manner of things, but is typically used for product and sales announcements, to aid Search Engine Marketing and SEO efforts, news bulletins, damage control with unhappy customers, general personality expression and humanizing of the brand, reaction and mention monitoring, and information exchanges with interested or particularly passionate individuals. Twitter is also an incredible tool for initiating PR campaigns, crisis situation control and brand positioning.

While these may not all seem obvious as marketing initiatives, almost every listed aspect has implications in the marketing setting. Any sort of communication between the brand and the customer, especially two-way, serves to strengthen the relationship between the customer and the brand. With Twitter, members tend to feel that they are part of a rather exclusive club, and that with that membership comes certain privileges. Some of those privileges include the ability to interact with larger than life personalities, celebrities, sports figures and major brands. Communications on Twitter carry more weight than those made through websites, emails and other media, and this is something major companies can take advantage of.

The opportunity is there for businesses of all size and type to open a Twitter account and begin communicating with their audience. All that it takes is a few minutes of your time, and 140 characters or less.

Digital Marketing – Missed Opportunities 2

Digital Marketing – Missed Opportunities 2

There has never been more ways for marketers to reach their customers. While there is always a risk of Social Media Marketing experts overreaching their grasp, it would be even more unfortunate if audiences who are seeking a product or who may be particularly receptive to a marketer’s offerings were never made aware of the particular product or service. In this second entry in an ongoing series of articles, we will examine some ways in which marketers can reach audiences by using methods they may not have considered.

Twitter for Small Companies – In our previous entry in this series, we discussed how Twitter can help large businesses to communicate and interact with their audience. For smaller companies, the use of Twitter changes a bit, but the general principles remain the same. However, with smaller companies there exists the opportunity for even more direct communications between brand and consumer. Let’s say that a small bakery in a major city has just decided to start a Twitter presence. They add their Twitter ID to their packaging, hang a few signs in their shop, and before long they have built up a decent sized following. Unlike the staggered nature of Email Marketing, they can now immediately notify their customers of major news such as upcoming sales and new product lines through Tweets. However, Tweets containing minor news such as “Just took a fresh batch of blueberry muffins out of the oven!” or “From now until closing, all bread is half off!” can go a long way toward generating repeat business, and initiating Re-Tweets, which will result in brand new business.

It can also be of use for the small business to monitor Twitter for mentions of their store. This can be easily accomplished by performing a short Twitter search every morning at the start of business, or if time is available, by searching repeatedly throughout the day. When the brand is mentioned, thank the customer for the mention and offer them a coupon or deal. If an unfavorable mention is spotted, try to make it right by offering a one-time deal. There is also the opportunity to communicate with those who mention a competitor’s brand. If they had a good experience with your competitor, try to provide them a better one. If their experience was negative, show them why they should make the switch to your brand. With small businesses, the use of Twitter depends a bit more on immediacy, but the reward can be more immediate as well. Tweets such as “Buy 2 muffins get 1 free..for the next hour only!” can inspire immediate business by local followers, and this immediate result is often exactly what the small business owner is seeking.

While many small business owners tend to think that Social applications such as Twitter cannot help their business or brand, those who realize that the opposite is the truth will have a unique advantage that just may be the difference between a successful business owner, and a former business owner.

Emerging Opportunities of Online Marketing

Emerging Opportunities of Online Marketing

Differences between the conventional marketing and online marketing

During the nineties, the advertising sector experienced a dot com boom which was considered as the leading marketing mode available at that time. In ‘dot com,’ the advertisers have to pay for the duration an advertisement appears in the media, which is mainly a website. Unlike the conventional marketing, through online marketing, the business owners or the marketing groups have to pay only when the relevant ads appearing in the websites are clicked by the users. Thus, the advertising fund is utilized for finding the interested customers.

Feedback available in online marketing

The advertisers are able to calculate the number of clicks obtained for the ads listed in an online media. The Top 15 Missed Opportunities On Twitter

The Top 15 Missed Opportunities On Twitter

If you aren’t employing numerous elements on Twitter, you’re missing out on using Twitter effectively.

- Having your real name in the name field (in settings) with a space between first and last names so your name is searchable on Twitter.

- Including the link to any article or post you reference in a tweet. (You can use a shortened URL application to track the clicks of your shortened link.)

- Uploading a good headshot of yourself rather than a company logo.

- Using your one hot link on Twitter to go to an information page rather than a sales page.

- Including targeted bio information that could authentically encourage people to follow you.

- Engaging in conversation on Twitter by replying to people rather than your only Twitter activity being sending your blog feeds automatically into your Twitter account.

- Retweeting interesting information from others instead of only tweeting your own links.

- Updating several times a day and several days a week.

- Thanking people for retweeting your links – and including the retweeted links.

- Thanking people for responding with information to the questions you tweet.

- Using tweetbeep.com to track your name and your company name on Twitter. (Your username mentions can be seen in your reply tab.)

- Participating in tweetchats on subjects of interest to your brand, book or business.

- Using search functions to find people with similar interests and then following them.

- Sharing interesting information links (from outside Twitter) with your Twitter followers.

- Sending DM Twitter tips to people when you spot a missed opportunity with which you can help them. (Never do this in a public tweet. Thus the person must be following you in order for you to DM that person regardless of whether you are following the person.)

Use this article as a checklist to see how many of these opportunities you are taking advantage of now. Fix any omissions as soon as possible.

Extra tip: If you spend too much time looking for good articles whose links you can tweet, implement a system to make this less time-consuming.

Do a search on Google for blogs in an area related to your interest. The concept related is important; you don’t want to link to blog posts of direct competitors. Blogs posts of colleagues are a much better choice.

Then sign up for email notification or the RSS feed of these five to 10 blogs. Each time there’s a new blog post, read it quickly to see if it is worthwhile. If so, tweet a link to it.

Voila! Your followers will appreciate the information, and the bloggers will appreciate your support. It’s a win-win opportunity.
