Just in case you are not clear what a landing page is, it is the first page a customer sees when they come to a site that you own from an advertising link. This is usually from an affiliate link in a blog post, article, or even search engine (similar to a doorway page). As we all know, first impressions are everything, and the web is no exception. What do you need a landing page for? You want to convey to the surfer that you have what they want, they can get it easily in one or two clicks, and they can do this with little or no distraction.

The first objective to designing a good landing page is “singularity of purpose,” which simply means: the main purpose of the surfer’s visit. What are they there to do? Buy a product, join a newsletter, fill out a survey, or click an affiliate link? If you do not know, then you can be sure that your surfers will not know. Lets assume, for the sake of this example, that you are selling an ebook. Lets also assume that the surfer is coming to your landing page from a link in an article that you wrote and submitted to an article directory. In this case, you have to decide whether you will send them directly to a sales page, or to your landing page first. This is a matter of judgement. Read over your article and decide whether or not the customer is presold on your product after reading the article. If the article explains multiple features of your product specifically, then it would be a good idea to send the surfer directly to your sales page instead of a landing page first.

Lets assume that the only time you mention your product specifically in the article is in the author resource box at the end. Since you haven’t presold them on your ebook at all, it is a good idea to create a landing page, and then ship them off to the sales page, which explains the ebook in detail. To achieve singularity of purpose, it is best to focus on the single main reason someone would buy your ebook. Take this reason and form it into a question. For example, if your ebook was a special weight loss program, you could write in bold letters, “Tired of Scam Diets? Wanna Lose Weight Now? Click Here To Find Out How!” If you read closely, you can see that I squeezed in another important facet of the landing page, a call to action. A call to action is just what it sounds like, it is telling the surfer to do something, and that something is to follow your link. In that one short sentence, you singled out the one reason they are here, and you told them what they needed to do in order to fulfill their need. That is a landing page.

The other parts of a landing page are graphics, fonts, video, and sound. Depending on your budget, and maybe skillset, you can use any combination of these to enhance the performance of your landing page. The main purpose for using any of these is to catch the surfer’s attention. Some landing pages use sound and graphics to do this, but the most effective way is catchy graphics. If you can get your surfer’s attention, then you will likely get yourself a clickthrough, at the minimum. If you can’t design the graphics yourself, then you can get a graphic designer to do it for you at a very affordable price. Go to one of the freelance auction websites and post a project describing exactly what you are looking for. Graphic designers will bid on the project and you can choose who gets to do it. Make sure that whoever you choose has a portfolio of past work for you to look at. For a nominal fee you can get a bunch of custom designed graphics for your landing pages, which will pay for themselves many times over if used properly.

A Landing Page is the page where your website visitors land i.e. arrive after they click on a link. The landing page can be your home page or any other page on your website specially designed to welcome your visitors. Landing pages can provide customized sales pitches for visitors. By designing great landing pages you can seek to engage visitors more effectively and increase your conversion rates.

Landing pages are a better way to welcome visitors that simply making them arrive on the home page. This is because when you know where the visitors are coming from, you can address their specific needs and offer customized solutions for the same. By giving visitors exactly what they need, you can captivate their attention and acquire a following of loyal audiences.

Landing pages are especially useful when you know where your visitors are coming from and you want to take particular actions like register themselves, sign-up or purchase something. If you are paying for the traffic through banner ads, sponsored links or PPC, then it gets especially important that you design specific landing pages.

Here are some tips to design effective landing pages that will engage visitors and provide higher ROI.

Focus on One Key Message

The content of the landing page should work to promote something specific. Don’t get lost and try to showcase everything you have. Rather, focus on one key message and make your content precise and concise. It should focus on one appealing message that is sure to attract visitor attention.

Make it Visually Appealing

Only content seldom makes a sale. Make sure your support your content with relevant images that illustrate the quality of your products or even services. Images can highly impact the decisions of the users. Moreover, they make the page more vibrant and add beauty to what would otherwise have been long scrapes of information.

Ensure Rich User Experience

More then anything else, make sure that your visitors have a smooth and flawless user experience on the page. The navigation pathway should be clean and intuitive and the call-to-action should be clear and succinct.

Use Catchy Headlines

If your headline is able to catch the attention of visitors, only then they will read further. When visitors arrive on your landing pages, make sure they see clear and direct headlines. The headlines should be direct and simple statements that tell visitors what needs to be accomplished.

Use Abundant Whitespace

The beauty of the web page elements only come through if they can be viewed clearly. And for a clean view, there needs to be abundant whitespace on the page. Don’t forget that Internet users scan through web pages. Clean use of space makes it possible for visitors to scan and understand the key messages of the web pages.

Deliver Value Propositions

The key to successful web communication is to answer visitor queries even before they ask you. Answer all the ‘what’, ‘why’, ‘how’ that visitors may ask with value propositions. Instead of long scrapes of plain text, use bullet points to present answers in a concise and easily comprehensible manner. Instantly inform them about the benefits of your products and services.

Make the Message Compelling and Convincing

Your landing page should be your best salesperson. It should persuade the visitors to make a purchase or hire your services. The message of your page should convince the visitors and compel them to take the desired action.

So you’d like to be an Internet Marketer, marketing products or services on the Internet and live the good life that financial success can bring you. But how do you get to that point? How do you get a successful Internet business started?

Studies prove simple web sites can sale just as effectively as, or even better than, elaborately designed, phenomenal looking websites. Maybe you used your friend to make a web site for you and now you’re sitting back waiting on the dollars. Perhaps you purchased FrontPage, Dreamweaver, GoLive, or another web site software product and have been making your own sites. Most people who try to make money on the Internet fail miserably, have you?

Let me share a another secret with you. It’s not hard to learn HTML and CSS. It’s not hard to make simple web page that can be very effective at selling. One of the problems with full blown software packages like FrontPage or Dreamweaver is that it makes it very easy to keep adding to and tweaking your web site until its way too busy to be an effective sales tool. I create the majority of my web sites by directly editing the HTML, ASP, or PHP code in a text editor. There are times that I will do an initial layout in a package such as FrontPage and do the remainder of the work using a text editor tool. This is especially true for pages that are interactive, like a page that contains a form to collect user data and populate a database such as mySQL, or a page that pull data from a database to create dynamic output.

Let me share one last secret with you. The pages you create to sell something are probably not very effective at selling, unless you’re already successful, and experienced, at marketing and copywriting. When I first saw a sales page that had been optimized based on statistical analysis of successful and unsuccessful sales pages I was dismayed. I just knew that it was too simple and too plain to sell anything… I was not only wrong, I was dead wrong. I base my sales pages on this same statistically proven design, it’s clean and simple and there’s nothing complex or hard to about creating it. The main things are that you constrain the text in an area that’s around 800 pixels wide and that you have a white background in this area. You can have a boarder around this body area and the page itself can be black or white. You can see an example at my web site.

I’ve given you three secrets that can make your web site more successful and more profitable. Don’t just sit there, make it happen.

How to Build Search Engine Friendly Web Pages

Many web site designers still do not design the websites the build to work effectively for the search engines. This is a huge mistake. Why?  Because they miss out on attracting lots of visitors to their client’s sites, visitors they can attract for free by designing a search engine friendly site that promotes high ‘organic’ listings. You may have spent a great deal of your marketing budget on your delightfully designed web, however you find your self needing to use pay-per-click advertising to attract visitors! This is because your website does not rank well enough organically, i.e. your sites search engine optimisation (SEO) does not promote your website well enough to display on the first pages of search engines.

 

 

We have put together some helpful tips on what you and your web design firm should be doing to help your sites SEO, tips you should be implementing from the start of your web project:

 

 

1. Keywords – Research highly targeted keywords. You should be before you ask your designer to create your website. Use a keyword research tool to research the most popular applicable to your industry. These keyword research tools will show how many people have searched for that particular keyword over the last 12 months. You should aim to create a list of around 100 keywords and phrases that you can include within your web pages.

2. ContentYou should aim to create your web copy so that is keyword rich, i.e. you should include between 3 – 8 of your chosen keywords per 100 lines of text. Most importantly is to include a paragraph of up to 500 words of text for the top of each page within your site. This strategy is favoured among search engines and should help you in the log term aim for good, organic based SEO.

3. Meta tags – Optimisation of certain Meta tags within the code of your website can aid SEO, although not as much as it used to do. The most significant meta tags are the title and description and to a lesser extent, the keyword Meta tags. Include your keywords within each of these Meta tags. The title tag should be a short sentence of no more than 80 characters. The description should be no more than 150. Your keyword tag should include the most frequently used keywords contained within your web pages.

4. Heading Tags – These tags separate each section of your web page with headings and subheadings. You should include keyword phrases in these tags, in particular in the H1 – H3 tags as these are given most weight by search engines. You should also make a point of giving your websites images a title tag, this is achieved by using the alt image tag. In the alt image tag add a brief description of the image using some of your most important keywords, helping with SEO. The alt tag helps visitors to read the description if they can’t see the image and allows screen readers to convey what the site is showing for the visually impaired.

5. Inbound links – web sites that link to yours raise your link popularity, especially those from ‘authority’ sites i.e. high ranking websites. Search for web sites that are compatible with yours and have a PR 4 or more.

6. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) – your web designer should be using these. CSS helps to implement a clean design throughout your web site. CSS helps you to easily update your whole site by changing on or two elements in the CSS sheet. CSS also help you to create a XHTML valid website, favoured among search engines.

7. Place any script code into external files – if you use javascript for menus/linking it will create code between the header tags, pushing down the text that search, engines would spider first. Placing the script code in an external file reduces the code to just one line.

The tips above will help you to develop a search engine friendly web site, but do not expect instant results. SEO is a long term marketing strategy that will, if carried out in the correct way, greatly benefit your websites chances of attracting targeted traffic.

Why Websites Are Better Than Landing Pages

Recently there was an e-book claiming that websites are a less effective means of promoting a real estate business than are landing pages (also known as squeeze pages). As anyone who knows their SEO methodologies can tell you, it ain’t necessarily so.

There are a number of reasons why an actual website is a more effective tool to gather leads and generate business if real estate is your field. While a landing page can be properly optimized for the search engines, the long and short of it is that doing so means one thing – more work for the webmaster.

There are a number of reasons why real estate investors should choose to maintain a traditional web page rather than building a series of landing pages. For starters, real estate is a business where your image matters. Having a professional appearance is incredibly important; landing pages are something which are largely the province of fly-by-night internet marketers (though not always, we’re not trying to give landing pages a bad name altogether here). You can think of it in this way: if you were looking to purchase a property, whether as an investment or as a new home, who would you rather do business with? The realtor with a polished, professional looking site, or one whose web presence is more akin to the virtual take on a used car lot?

In many cases, this appearance corresponds with the behavior of the realtor; basically, landing pages tend to look cheap. Hardly the impression you want to give a prospective buyer or seller, is it? Of course it isn’t, so let’s move on. One of the chief problems with using landing pages is that a single business will tend to maintain a great deal of these pages which are targeted towards slightly different keywords, especially when using PPC advertising to promote your business.

The proponents of landing pages often characterize this as a ‘money funneling system’, something which is not entirely accurate. A better analogy might be a sky full of very dim stars viewed from a brightly lit city center. Those stars aren’t all that visible now, are they? The point here is that landing pages are rarely terribly visible in terms of search results. Since the content of these multiple landing pages is generally very similar, one page often differing from another only in the main keyword used, search engines view them as duplicate content.

What does this mean? It means that search engines largely ignore these pages – so they have little if any traffic or lead generation potential beyond the relatively small number of people who pay attention to contextual advertising. Is this inherently problematic? Actually yes – all of the work which goes into building these landing pages which don’t tend to generate that much traffic, relatively speaking could have gone into promoting your main website and gaining natural traffic. This traffic of course increases your website’s search engine ranking which means even more traffic and a higher profile.

If real estate is a numbers game, it stands to reason that you’d want to actually work the numbers and maximize your traffic to a single source. Landing page proponents will tell you that a traditional website can’t target all of the various keywords that a landing page can. This, of course is nonsense. It’s every bit as easy (if not easier) to add a page to your own website which is optimized for the same keywords – and it actually builds the page ranking of your website, rather than detracting from this important task. I’ll leave you with one other advantage that a traditional website has over landing pages when it comes to search engine optimization and generating leads. Landing pages don’t tend to be re-index by search engines if indeed they are ever indexed in the first place!

A website, by contrast has one possible application which makes it superior to landing pages in every way – it’s easy to deploy a blog as part of your website. Why a blog? Because it’s an incredibly easy way to add new content to your site and keep search engines coming back. This can help build your page ranking and your traffic faster and more sustainably than any number of landing pages ever will.

In the time it takes to put together a single web page, you could add a page to your main site, put work towards other traffic driving strategies or get your site re-indexed by adding a new post to your blog; and you’d still have time to get yourself a cup of coffee, sit back for a moment and congratulate yourself on your business acumen while the people who favor landing pages are still uploading their page. It’s an easy call to make – websites win out over landing pages hands down.

All the products that you want to sell online are ready.  You have already signed up with the Google Adsense program or with other affiliate marketing programs and you have already prepared the ad you want to post on your affiliate’s site.  Your mind is now set to being the next most successful online businessman.  But is there anything else that you might have forgotten to prepare?  Maybe none.  But how about your landing pages?  Are they all set for your business?

Landing pages are simply web pages where visitors are directed to whenever they click a result in a web search or whenever they click a web ad.  For affiliate marketing, landing pages would refer to the web page where you, as a merchant, would want your potential customer to be directed after clicking your ad on your affiliate’s website.  Landing pages are, at most times, nothing really different from other web pages in a particular website, especially if the said website is an e-commerce site.  Some online businessmen would even use the homepage of their websites as the landing page for their ads.  Are these businessmen making a big mistake?  Or should you follow their method in creating landing pages for their ads?

Well, you can always follow what most online retailers do, directing their potential customers to the homepages of their websites.  But if you want to achieve something more from your online business, and if you want to earn a lot of profits, you better create a special landing page for your web ads.  Why?  Here are a few reasons why you need to use landing pages for your web ads.  And take note, it would do you a lot better if you create a great landing page than a so-so one.

Reason no. 1: It is the only way you earn conversions in an affiliate marketing program.

There are a variety of affiliate marketing programs today, but most of these programs let the merchant pay the affiliate in a pay per click basis.  Basically, all you have to do is sign up with the program and submit your ad.  The program owner would then distribute your ad to various affiliates who would then place your ad on their websites.  Whenever your ad is clicked, a visitor would be directed to your landing page and you would have to pay the affiliate for his service.

As a merchant, you earn in an affiliate program through conversions—that is whenever a visitor that is directed to your site actually buys a product on your site.  Without these conversions, you actually earn nothing from the program.  Also, the more visitors that your affiliates have directed to your site, the larger would your expense be.  And the only way that you can recover from these expenses is through conversions.

Now, you sure won’t get any conversion if you have posted an ad on your affiliate’s site without an actual landing page for the potential customer to be redirected into.  It’s just like advertising a product without actually having a store to sell your product.  Your advertisement may be enticing enough to encourage people to purchase a product, but without the landing page, how will they know how to purchase the product

It is therefore important to have landing pages for your ads because it is the only way for you to earn something in an affiliate program.  Without landing pages, all you do is spend money paying your affiliates without actually getting anything in return.

Reason no. 2: Other web pages may just not be enough.

Many people make the mistake of making their website’s homepage as the landing page for their ads.  The same is true for those who make use of other pages like a “contact us” page or a product page.  Homepages are often designed to serve multiple users and contains a lot of links to other pages or to other websites.  The same is with the other two pages mentioned.  If you want to be successful in an affiliate program, we’re sure that you don’t want your landing page to cater to the needs of various people, most of which may not be really interested with your product.

When choosing a landing page, you must always have the customer directed into that page in mind.  Therefore, your landing page must be relevant to the keywords and the contents you placed on your ad.  It is also important that the landing page can induce your visitor to take action—that is to purchase your product or at least provide leads for potential customers.

Final Word

You probably entered into an affiliate marketing program with these things in mind: to save on advertising expenses and to gain more profit.  But if you get into an affiliate marketing program without actually having a landing page, you’ll end up paying too much without getting anything in return.  So if you still don’t have a landing page for your ads, you better start creating one now.  And don’t get us wrong; it isn’t enough for you to have just a landing page—it should be a great landing page!

All the products that you want to sell online are ready.  You have already signed up with the Google Adsense program or with other affiliate marketing programs and you have already prepared the ad you want to post on your affiliate’s site.  Your mind is now set to being the next most successful online businessman.  But is there anything else that you might have forgotten to prepare?  Maybe none.  But how about your landing pages?  Are they all set for your business?

Landing pages are simply web pages where visitors are directed to whenever they click a result in a web search or whenever they click a web ad.  For affiliate marketing, landing pages would refer to the web page where you, as a merchant, would want your potential customer to be directed after clicking your ad on your affiliate’s website.  Landing pages are, at most times, nothing really different from other web pages in a particular website, especially if the said website is an e-commerce site.  Some online businessmen would even use the homepage of their websites as the landing page for their ads.  Are these businessmen making a big mistake?  Or should you follow their method in creating landing pages for their ads?

Well, you can always follow what most online retailers do, directing their potential customers to the homepages of their websites.  But if you want to achieve something more from your online business, and if you want to earn a lot of profits, you better create a special landing page for your web ads.  Why?  Here are a few reasons why you need to use landing pages for your web ads.  And take note, it would do you a lot better if you create a great landing page than a so-so one.

Reason no. 1: It is the only way you earn conversions in an affiliate marketing program.

There are a variety of affiliate marketing programs today, but most of these programs let the merchant pay the affiliate in a pay per click basis.  Basically, all you have to do is sign up with the program and submit your ad.  The program owner would then distribute your ad to various affiliates who would then place your ad on their websites.  Whenever your ad is clicked, a visitor would be directed to your landing page and you would have to pay the affiliate for his service.

As a merchant, you earn in an affiliate program through conversions that is whenever a visitor that is directed to your site actually buys a product on your site.  Without these conversions, you actually earn nothing from the program.  Also, the more visitors that your affiliates have directed to your site, the larger would your expense be.  And the only way that you can recover from these expenses is through conversions.

Now, you sure won’t get any conversion if you have posted an ad on your affiliate’s site without an actual landing page for the potential customer to be redirected into.  It’s just like advertising a product without actually having a store to sell your product.  Your advertisement may be enticing enough to encourage people to purchase a product, but without the landing page, how will they know how to purchase the product

It is therefore important to have landing pages for your ads because it is the only way for you to earn something in an affiliate program.  Without landing pages, all you do is spend money paying your affiliates without actually getting anything in return.

Reason no. 2: Other web pages may just not be enough.

Many people make the mistake of making their website’s homepage as the landing page for their ads.  The same is true for those who make use of other pages like a “contact us” page or a product page.  Homepages are often designed to serve multiple users and contains a lot of links to other pages or to other websites.  The same is with the other two pages mentioned.  If you want to be successful in an affiliate program, we’re sure that you don’t want your landing page to cater to the needs of various people, most of which may not be really interested with your product.

When choosing a landing page, you must always have the customer directed into that page in mind.  Therefore, your landing page must be relevant to the keywords and the contents you placed on your ad.  It is also important that the landing page can induce your visitor to take action that is to purchase your product or at least provide leads for potential customers.

Final Word

You probably entered into an affiliate marketing program with these things in mind: to save on advertising expenses and to gain more profit.  But if you get into an affiliate marketing program without actually having a landing page, you’ll end up paying too much without getting anything in return.  So if you still don’t have a landing page for your ads, you better start creating one now.  And don’t get us wrong; it isn’t enough for you to have just a landing page it should be a great landing page!

Useing Landing Pages And Why You Need One

All the products that you want to sell online are ready.  You have already signed up with the Google Adsense program or with other affiliate marketing programs and you have already prepared the ad you want to post on your affiliate’s site.  Your mind is now set to being the next most successful online businessman.  But is there anything else that you might have forgotten to prepare?  Maybe none.  But how about your landing pages?  Are they all set for your business?

Landing pages are simply web pages where visitors are directed to whenever they click a result in a web search or whenever they click a web ad.  For affiliate marketing, landing pages would refer to the web page where you, as a merchant, would want your potential customer to be directed after clicking your ad on your affiliate’s website.  Landing pages are, at most times, nothing really different from other web pages in a particular website, especially if the said website is an e-commerce site.  Some online businessmen would even use the homepage of their websites as the landing page for their ads.  Are these businessmen making a big mistake?  Or should you follow their method in creating landing pages for their ads?

Well, you can always follow what most online retailers do, directing their potential customers to the homepages of their websites.  But if you want to achieve something more from your online business, and if you want to earn a lot of profits, you better create a special landing page for your web ads.  Why?  Here are a few reasons why you need to use landing pages for your web ads.  And take note, it would do you a lot better if you create a great landing page than a so-so one.

Reason no. 1: It is the only way you earn conversions in an affiliate marketing program.

There are a variety of affiliate marketing programs today, but most of these programs let the merchant pay the affiliate in a pay per click basis.  Basically, all you have to do is sign up with the program and submit your ad.  The program owner would then distribute your ad to various affiliates who would then place your ad on their websites.  Whenever your ad is clicked, a visitor would be directed to your landing page and you would have to pay the affiliate for his service.

As a merchant, you earn in an affiliate program through conversions that is whenever a visitor that is directed to your site actually buys a product on your site.  Without these conversions, you actually earn nothing from the program.  Also, the more visitors that your affiliates have directed to your site, the larger would your expense be.  And the only way that you can recover from these expenses is through conversions.

Now, you sure won’t get any conversion if you have posted an ad on your affiliate’s site without an actual landing page for the potential customer to be redirected into.  It’s just like advertising a product without actually having a store to sell your product.  Your advertisement may be enticing enough to encourage people to purchase a product, but without the landing page, how will they know how to purchase the product

It is therefore important to have landing pages for your ads because it is the only way for you to earn something in an affiliate program.  Without landing pages, all you do is spend money paying your affiliates without actually getting anything in return.

Reason no. 2: Other web pages may just not be enough.

Many people make the mistake of making their website’s homepage as the landing page for their ads.  The same is true for those who make use of other pages like a “contact us” page or a product page.  Homepages are often designed to serve multiple users and contains a lot of links to other pages or to other websites.  The same is with the other two pages mentioned.  If you want to be successful in an affiliate program, we’re sure that you don’t want your landing page to cater to the needs of various people, most of which may not be really interested with your product.

When choosing a landing page, you must always have the customer directed into that page in mind.  Therefore, your landing page must be relevant to the keywords and the contents you placed on your ad.  It is also important that the landing page can induce your visitor to take action that is to purchase your product or at least provide leads for potential customers.

Final Word

You probably entered into an affiliate marketing program with these things in mind: to save on advertising expenses and to gain more profit.  But if you get into an affiliate marketing program without actually having a landing page, you’ll end up paying too much without getting anything in return.  So if you still don’t have a landing page for your ads, you better start creating one now.  And don’t get us wrong; it isn’t enough for you to have just a landing page it should be a great landing page!

The Facebook page title should be very relevant and should include the targeted keywords in title. If the title is keyword rich then it’s “like a cherry on the cake”. It helps both the ways for people who look for the topic on the Facebook search as well as in the search engines. The title should be able to describe what the page topic is; it should be relevant at the same time it should be inclusive of keywords. It is the initial step towards creating optimized Facebook page.

Facebook gives the permission to choose the web address of the fan page, it automatically creates a URL but it can be modified as per a person’s own choice, if in case you feel something else could benefit you more. The web address should be kept sweet and simple, as it helps people to remember it and they can access it directly the next time without searching for it. The web address should be inclusive of the topic as it helps in the process of optimization, if it’s relevant and includes the keywords it can give you a extra boost in the rankings. URL always plays a major role if your result is in the top 10 search results; it gives you minor advantage which can give major effect if all the other factors are in your favor.

The ‘about’ tab is inclusive of description, it can be given the value of the ‘description meta-tag’. This tab should be used to type several different phrases which are rich in keywords. One can also add a link to ones website or the other relevant content of the cause, business or services. The info tab is supposed to be used to write the information about the company, its main areas of expertise and certifications. You should add the company web address to info tab. The two text spaces should be used to write keyword rich content. Now the page is ready and running, all it needs is fuel which in the SEO terms is back-links. For any webpage to be successful back-links are required they play one of the major roles in search engine optimization. Search engines see links coming from quality websites as recommendations, Building inbound links is a important part of any optimization campaign.

All the products that you want to sell online are ready.  You have already signed up with the Google Adsense program or with other affiliate marketing programs and you have already prepared the ad you want to post on your affiliate’s site.  Your mind is now set to being the next most successful online businessman.  But is there anything else that you might have forgotten to prepare?  Maybe none.  But how about your landing pages?  Are they all set for your business?

Landing pages are simply web pages where visitors are directed to whenever they click a result in a web search or whenever they click a web ad.  For affiliate marketing, landing pages would refer to the web page where you, as a merchant, would want your potential customer to be directed after clicking your ad on your affiliate’s website.  Landing pages are, at most times, nothing really different from other web pages in a particular website, especially if the said website is an e-commerce site.  Some online businessmen would even use the homepage of their websites as the landing page for their ads.  Are these businessmen making a big mistake?  Or should you follow their method in creating landing pages for their ads?

Well, you can always follow what most online retailers do, directing their potential customers to the homepages of their websites.  But if you want to achieve something more from your online business, and if you want to earn a lot of profits, you better create a special landing page for your web ads.  Why?  Here are a few reasons why you need to use landing pages for your web ads.  And take note, it would do you a lot better if you create a great landing page than a so-so one.

Reason no. 1: It is the only way you earn conversions in an affiliate marketing program.

There are a variety of affiliate marketing programs today, but most of these programs let the merchant pay the affiliate in a pay per click basis.  Basically, all you have to do is sign up with the program and submit your ad.  The program owner would then distribute your ad to various affiliates who would then place your ad on their websites.  Whenever your ad is clicked, a visitor would be directed to your landing page and you would have to pay the affiliate for his service.

As a merchant, you earn in an affiliate program through conversions-that is whenever a visitor that is directed to your site actually buys a product on your site.  Without these conversions, you actually earn nothing from the program.  Also, the more visitors that your affiliates have directed to your site, the larger would your expense be.  And the only way that you can recover from these expenses is through conversions.

Now, you sure won’t get any conversion if you have posted an ad on your affiliate’s site without an actual landing page for the potential customer to be redirected into.  It’s just like advertising a product without actually having a store to sell your product.  Your advertisement may be enticing enough to encourage people to purchase a product, but without the landing page, how will they know how to purchase the product

It is therefore important to have landing pages for your ads because it is the only way for you to earn something in an affiliate program.  Without landing pages, all you do is spend money paying your affiliates without actually getting anything in return.

Reason no. 2: Other web pages may just not be enough.

Many people make the mistake of making their website’s homepage as the landing page for their ads.  The same is true for those who make use of other pages like a “contact us” page or a product page.  Homepages are often designed to serve multiple users and contains a lot of links to other pages or to other websites.  The same is with the other two pages mentioned.  If you want to be successful in an affiliate program, we’re sure that you don’t want your landing page to cater to the needs of various people, most of which may not be really interested with your product.

When choosing a landing page, you must always have the customer directed into that page in mind.  Therefore, your landing page must be relevant to the keywords and the contents you placed on your ad.  It is also important that the landing page can induce your visitor to take action-that is to purchase your product or at least provide leads for potential customers.

Final Word

You probably entered into an affiliate marketing program with these things in mind: to save on advertising expenses and to gain more profit.  But if you get into an affiliate marketing program without actually having a landing page, you’ll end up paying too much without getting anything in return.  So if you still don’t have a landing page for your ads, you better start creating one now.  And don’t get us wrong; it isn’t enough for you to have just a landing page-it should be a great landing page!
