What is Relationship Marketing?

Relationship Marketing as it says on the tin is all about relationships and the effective use of tactics and various methods to develop long term relationships with customers with the intention to turn them into loyal customers.

With the ongoing amount of competition, organizations must demonstrate and offer extremely good customer service which gives great value and excellent targeted messages and communications.

However first you have to attract customers before being able to convert them into paying customers, therefore methods and tactics are used to do exactly this. Some organisations offer a whole array of offers, new product promotions and competitive prices. As soon as these leads are captured they then have to be retained, its common for organisations to use methods such as loyalty cards, courtesy calls and many other relationship building tactics.

How does Relationship Marketing work online and how can i get started?

There are many ways you can do this but the strongest and most successful way is to offer something for free, now … it doesn’t have to be something outrageous like a free product or something expensive, it doesn’t even have to be anything tangible, it could just be an E-Book or E-Guide which you know will add great value to your visitors, for example i recently listened to a great podcast from someone who set up a website on “How To Cure Acne”, this person simply implemented a lead capture system and to entice visitors into leaving their contact details the webmaster offered a “7 Day Plan to Cure Acne” which was a 7 day plan which provided down to earth advice, tips, product reviews and other useful resources to its readers which was delivered over a 7 day period each day, and the best of it was it was all automated.

However the relationship building didn’t end there, the visitors wouldn’t simply receive 7 days of material and then not a whistle for months, the idea here is to grow the leads and build up a rapore and strong relationship

So you’d like to be an Internet Marketer, marketing products or services on the Internet and live the good life that financial success can bring you. But how do you get to that point? How do you get a successful Internet business started?

Studies prove simple web sites can sale just as effectively as, or even better than, elaborately designed, phenomenal looking websites. Maybe you used your friend to make a web site for you and now you’re sitting back waiting on the dollars. Perhaps you purchased FrontPage, Dreamweaver, GoLive, or another web site software product and have been making your own sites. Most people who try to make money on the Internet fail miserably, have you?

Let me share a another secret with you. It’s not hard to learn HTML and CSS. It’s not hard to make simple web page that can be very effective at selling. One of the problems with full blown software packages like FrontPage or Dreamweaver is that it makes it very easy to keep adding to and tweaking your web site until its way too busy to be an effective sales tool. I create the majority of my web sites by directly editing the HTML, ASP, or PHP code in a text editor. There are times that I will do an initial layout in a package such as FrontPage and do the remainder of the work using a text editor tool. This is especially true for pages that are interactive, like a page that contains a form to collect user data and populate a database such as mySQL, or a page that pull data from a database to create dynamic output.

Let me share one last secret with you. The pages you create to sell something are probably not very effective at selling, unless you’re already successful, and experienced, at marketing and copywriting. When I first saw a sales page that had been optimized based on statistical analysis of successful and unsuccessful sales pages I was dismayed. I just knew that it was too simple and too plain to sell anything… I was not only wrong, I was dead wrong. I base my sales pages on this same statistically proven design, it’s clean and simple and there’s nothing complex or hard to about creating it. The main things are that you constrain the text in an area that’s around 800 pixels wide and that you have a white background in this area. You can have a boarder around this body area and the page itself can be black or white. You can see an example at my web site.

I’ve given you three secrets that can make your web site more successful and more profitable. Don’t just sit there, make it happen.

Allow us to capture a look at a swift and simple way to immediately increase your revenue from a first time customer.  It is called, upselling, and it is a very effective strategy of offering one or more added products at the point of sale that will enhance your clients main purchases.

You have already persuaded your clients to purchase from you.  At this point, you have won their trust and respect.    Thus it requires very small extra effort on your part!  And by and large, after people have made the decision to buy, they are much receptive to other offers,  if you catch them while they are in a buying mood!  In fact, our testing shows that a enormous high percentage of people will purchase a second product!

However, in order for this approach to be effective, you must make sure that what you are linked to your main item.  By all means, present some specialty coffee if you are selling a coffee pot,  but do not try to sell coffee to someone who’s purchasing computer parts!  As long as you present something that is directly linked to your main item, you can easily  improve your revenue from that sale.

Make the most of the worth of your on hand customer base to skyrocket your revenue.  Remember: Your first-time customers always cost you the most.  Instead of spending all of your time, money, also energy drawing more first-time guests to your web site, devote more time to the relationships you have established with your current client base!

Your current client base is a gold mine.  In fact, backend sales to your on hand clients can improve your revenue significantly.   That is why it’s thus critical that you follow up with every person who purchases from you!

So how do you get in touch with your on hand client base?

One excellent follow-up approach is to use programmed sequential offers to pull buyers back to your site.  E-mail your clients after the initial sale, thanking them for their purchase, asking them if they have any questions?  Also offering a related product.
 
An alternative strategy is to use e-mail to dispatch new offers and special promotions.  You can target your e-mail communications to clients based on their history with you.  For example, you can send a special promotion to all your first-time customers.  Or, you can send a thank you promotion to your long-term repeat customers.  In each e-mail, include and present a product or service related to their initial purchase. 

Not sure what you can offer as a backend item?   Here are just a few ideas:

present a linked product they’re likely to be interested in
present added of the same product
present an upgrade to the initial product
offer a service that assists with the use of the product
present a service to apply the product for them
present information to improve the use of their product
present other people’s products for a commission

Make sure you time your offers for the greatest success. send out your follow-up offers 3, 7, also 10 days after the initial buy. These are the times when new clients are most likely to make a SECOND purchase.  If you’re not following up with your clients, you are literally leaving a percentage of your proceeds on the table!

Generate massive proceeds by starting an affiliate program.  How would you like to improve your search engine rankings and exponentially improve your proceeds?  Well, if you start an affiliate program, you can do just that. 

Developing an affiliate program is an incredibly powerful way to market your product or service online.  It involves allowing other people to promote your products or services for you.  And the best part is that you don’t have to pay them a penny unless they send you a sale!

It is not difficult to set up an affiliate program, and the benefits of doing it are enormous.  Your affiliates can send you a great deal of traffic.  Using banner ads, text links, also e-mail promotions, your affiliates can dispatch droves of folks to your web site.  Your site can skyrocket to a top ranking in the search engines.  Not only will you acquire a host of inbound links from your affiliates, your content will spread to the far reaches of the internet  resulting in a drastic rise in your search engine rankings.  You can reduce your advertising costs.  Since you will have reams of highly motivated affiliates selling your products for you, you will not  have to spend money driving traffic to your site.  The key to getting the most out of your affiliate program is to attract the attention of very motivated affiliates by offering lots of incentive: generous commissions, also tools and resources that will help them to succeed.

Form strategic alliances with other businesses to ramp up your profits, expand your skill set, and present your clients high-quality products and services.  Forming partnerships and also joint ventures with other businesses for a share of profits is a great way to ramp up your income in a major way.  For one thing, when you combine your skills, products, services, and  resources with another business, you create new streams of proceeds and profit and expand into new markets.  You also bring added worth to your existing clients.  The key to getting the most  out of a strategic alliance is to seek out products or services that complement yours and will benefit your guests.  Then approach the companies that provide those products or services.  Ask them if you can recommend their products or services on your web site for a portion of the profits.  Generally companies will gladly agree to this arrangement. After all, it is no risk for them if they have to pay you only when you refer a paying customer.  It is a win-win situation that is going to generate a LOT of additional revenue!

So, get out there and start selling.

Redesigning of your website is all about understanding your audience and your medium in order to improve your Internet presence.

There are several compelling reasons to redesign your website. A website redesign is most commonly needed for the following reasons:

a. A change in your brick and mortar business and/or your online business model.
b. Growth and expansion into new areas.
c. Updating for Internet technology such as new browsers, increasing screen sizes and faster connection speeds.
d. To increase your search engine presence
e. To replace an out-of-date or unprofessional looking website.

Whatever the reason, a redesign is an extraordinary opportunity to redefine your online business presence and propel your website forward, ahead of your online competitors.

Break Down the Functional Parts of Your Website
The best method for examining all the parts of your website is to create a sitemap. A sitemap is a visual diagram of all the links and pages of your website. Let’s take a look at an example for a property development company’s sitemap.

In the sitemap illustrationabove we have sectioned the property development website into 5 parts.

1. Administrative Links
2. Hot Links
3. Global Links
4. Sub Links
5. Footer Links

Your Administrative links should contain the general information for your business. You want to keep these links separated from your Products or Services links so your visitors won’t have to browse through your administrative company links such as Mission Statement when looking for your products or services.

Hot links are the visual cues that act as hot points or your important Call-to-Action areas. These are essentially mini-advertisements that call attention to specific areas of your website. In the illustration above there are hot links for Inquiries, News, and Events. Our website client wanted to generate sales leads and provide news and events regarding new developments for retail and sales related real estate.

The naming of your links is also an important factor. If you are a medical office or a lawyer, you may want to name your Inquiry link as Confidential Inquiries, whereas a contractor would use the link term Free No-Obligation Inquiries.

Global Links are the primary links for your services and products. This is where you should place information for what you do, how you do it, what you provide, what you sell and so on. These are your bread and butter links. Bread and butter links are the hyperlinks and information that generate your leads and business income.

Sub Links are where you will want to prioritize this information. Think of additional ways to support your products and/or services. Here are some great ideas for doing this.

a. Create Case Studies pages
b. Create pages for Testimonials or Accolades
c. Create pages for your Associations or Certifications
d. Create a Client List or Client Industries Served list
e. Create Photo or Project Gallery pages
f. Create a repository page for Media. This provides you a place in your website to post links, video, audio, articles, Word documents and PDF files for any news or information relating to you or your business.
g. Define what makes your business unique.

Footer Links can be an extremely important area of your website and are often overlooked. This is where you can insert jump links to your locations pages, post phone numbers, fax numbers, emails, and address information.

* Note: If you are a local business and want local exposure on Google and other major search engines, it is important that you list your full local business address in the footer of your website.

Challenge, Focus Test and Question each Part
Once you complete your sitemap you should research similar websites for your business. Compare your navigation tabs and the names for these tabs to other websites.

Ask yourself the following questions. Have I covered all my navigation bases? Have I created opportunities for developing specific pages?

If you were a home remodeling contractor you might want to consider multiple galleries for your project photos versus displaying all your construction projects in one gallery page. Multiple pages provide you more chances for visitors to find your website in search engines. Every page in your website is an opportunity to tell search engines what your website is about.

Ask your web developer to use different and unique title and description meta-data in the code of your individual pages. In the case of a home remodeling contractor website, there are opportunities to have multiple gallery pages for kitchens, sunrooms, room additions, decks and so on.

Using Meaningful Content
Whether you are a lawyer, baker or candle stick maker there are two extremely important reasons for your website to contain meaningful text or copy.

1. Great copy supports and defines the essence of your website. Great copy can be defined as well formed sentences that convey your ideas and information in a meaningful way to your online visitors.

2. Great copy (website content) will earn you back-links and heightened attention from search engines. Do not write copy specifically for search engines; rather write copy for human visitors, but be judicious in the way you form your sentences. Also ask your web designer to place interior links within your pages where appropriate.

Here’s an example using two short paragraphs of home page content.

THIS COPY IS OK
a. Our product line seamlessly combines function and elegance, and includes: home and office furniture, accent chairs and pieces.

THIS COPY IS BETTER
b. The Williamson extensive product line seamlessly combines function and elegance, and includes: home entertainment furniture, home office furniture, accent chairs and accent pieces.

In the second example they mention their company name and use complete phrasing for their products.

Instead of “home and office furniture” they used more descriptive phrases like “home entertainment furniture” and “home office furniture”. These two phrases could also be linked to any relevant interior pages to improve user navigation and also compliment your website’s search engine optimization.

Put all these Parts Back Together in a Meaningful Way
Now that your sitemap is complete, the next phase is to incorporate this information into a website redesign. Consider the following points before you finalize your website design.

1. Consider whether a vertical navigation or horizontal navigation schema works best for your website (some websites have both).

2. Be sure your most important information is placed above-the-fold.

Above-the-fold is a newspaper advertising term that refers to strategically placed images and text in the upper most section on the front of the newspaper page.

Think for a moment about the T. V. style box, newspaper dispensers pioneered by Al Neuhart, Founder of USA Today. When the newspaper is folded and placed in the front-facing box you can be sure that the editor will place the most attention grabbing photos and compelling headlines above-the-fold’. This directly impacts how many papers will be sold.

This same methodology applies to your website redesign. If your website does not capture your online visitors in the first few seconds after landing on your website, then they will simply move on to another website.

3. Humans read information left to right and down the page. Be sure there is an orderly flow of images and information on your home page and interior pages.

4. Be sure there is good use of white space or black space. Don’t insist that your website designers cram text, graphics or visuals in every nook and cranny of your web page.

A professional graphic design person or web designer can help you develop a good look and feel for your new website, but don’t leave this task completely in their hands. Ask questions along the way and do your research. If they suggest a vertical navigation using red links instead of blue… then ask them why.

At the end of this process you will have done your necessary due diligence for having a successful redesign that will carry you forward over the next few years!

There are two important aspects of making a landing page that converts. The content and the format. The format is how to make your page attractive to grab the visitor’s attention and compel them to read further and click through and the content which is called the sales copy is what to write about in order to put your reader in a buying mood by answering their questions and connecting with them.

So how do you do that?

1.      Most readers will connect to a landing page if it tells them a story and sounds sincere, if they can feel that you have been there and are speaking from experience. The best way to sound sincere? Be sincere. Till date, I have never promoted a product that I do not feel like buying myself.

2.      In todays day and age, people want things right now. So tell people they can access it instantly in the case of electronic products and if you are promoting physical products, tell them about fast shipping.

3.      Offer proof of the product working, say your clickbank account, videos, testimonials.

4.      Tell them how easy it is to understand and follow.

5.      Inform them that this product is only available online, create urgency by letting them know how high demand it is and that it may only be available at that price for a limited time.

6.      Offer them a free trial period if available.

7.      See if you can either make or find videos that show people how this product works and how anyone can learn it quickly

8.      Set people’s doubts to ease by promoting only those products that have a money back guarantee.

9.      Offer a bonus for buying through your link within a certain period of time.

10.  Most important, use curiosity in your call to action links. For eg. ‘Did you know about the 5 things in your kitchen that can reduce your blood pressure in 3 days? Click here to find out what they are.’

Making a Landing Page can be challenging but knowing how to write an effective sales copy make it much easier and give your click through rates a boost. However, formatting your effective sales copy is equally important. Some estimates say that more than 60% of people looking to buy or sell real estate go to the internet first when they begin their search for real estate information. And as agents and brokers become more net-savvy, and more and more people get online, that number will only increase.

That means that the hottest sources of real estate prospects, leads, listings and sales is online. Which obviously means that if you are a Real Estate Agent, or if you provide a real estate service, you need an online presence.

** Establishing an online presence

Most people have no idea how to create an online presence. But the truth is, it is fairly straightforward, once you understand how the internet works.

It’s all about getting traffic to your website, and then having a website attractive enough to attract the attention, and get the responses of your website visitors.

** How do you get traffic?

There are two well established ways to get traffic to your website. Both of them involve the major search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN.

The first method is to run advertisements that target the buyers or sellers you want to reach. There is no better way to advertise than by using paid search advertising — what is called “pay-per-click” advertising.

The second method is to promote your website so it comes up high in searches. Most people begin their search for real estate information by typing a search term into their favorite search engine. The list of possible sources that the search engine gives you is called “natural” or “free” results. You place high in these searches by impressing the search engines with the importance of your site. When you come up in the first few spots in “free” searches, you are virtually guaranteed to get “free” traffic — because people will click on your link and be taken to your site.

** Pay-Per-Click Advertising

Most real estate agents are used to traditional advertising methods such as running ads in real estate publications. And they think it is necessary to pay between 0-0 for one insertion that may or may not bring them any responses. That is the major problem with traditional advertising — it is expensive, and it gives you no guarantee of response.

But pay-per-click advertising is different. On the one hand it can be targeted to reach the precise target segment you want to reach — for instance, people looking for real estate in your town or city.

On the other hand, you only pay for “clicks” when someone who is potentially interested in your service clicks on your ad and visits your website. This is the revolutionary advertising concept that has made Google the hottest and most dominant player on the web.

But pay-per-click advertising can also be expensive and difficult to manage. Fortunately there are ways of establishing an online presence without paying hundreds or even thousands of dollars a month.

** Search engine marketing – Search Engine Optimization

As mentioned earlier, the other way to generate online traffic is to promote your site so it comes up high in organic or free searches. This is called “search engine marketing” and involves two important components.

First, it involves creating a website that makes it very clear who your prospective visitors might be. This process is called “search engine optimization”. You “optimize” your site to include as many references as possible to the subject matter you want to focus on, and the target market you want to reach.

For instance, if you are trying to reach potential home buyers in Sarasota, Florida, then you must make it clear that your site is about “real estate in Sarasota.” You must build as much content into your site about Sarasota as you can.

Since most online business people do not know the “tricks of the trade” when it comes to search engine optimization (SEO), they hire an expert who does. Unfortunately there are no guarantees when it comes to search engine optimization. Even with sites that have been highly optimized there is no guarantee that the search engines will reward you with a high ranking. Nevertheless, it is an important exercise to go through, and is one of the foundations on which to build your search engine marketing.

** Search engine marketing – Linking

The other component of search engine marketing is to get lots of “inbound links” pointing to your site from other sites. An inbound link is a link on someone else’s site that makes a reference to yours.

Links give you two important sources of traffic. First, visitors to the sites where your links are found may actually click on those links and visit your site. This is especially the case if your links are on high traffic pages that are highly relevant to your service.

Second, inbound links impress the search engines. When the search engines find lots of links to your site in various places around the web, they interpret this as an indicator of the importance of your website. And that in turn results in the search engines rewarding you with higher rankings in free or organic searches.

Inevitably that results in traffic. And if your website is written to get results, traffic should convert to sales.

If all of this sounds a bit overwhelming, it is best not to simply throw up your hands in despair and concede all of those potential online customers to your net savvy colleagues. The fact is there are very inexpensive ways to cash in on all that online gold. You just have to keep looking until you find the right people to work with.

By showing them, the specific benefits to be gained by choosing your service or product, you provide credible reasons why your offer is better than their competitors.

Many people surf for information about things, which grab their interests. Once you have provided this to them, and helped them gain insight concerning their keyword search queries, then they do not mind taking time to check out your offers.
