Tips for Setting up a Blog

Creating a new blog is an excellent hobby. Whether or not you create it simply for fun as well as amusement or if you would love to go after a job in blogging, publishing a blog offers lots of advantages. While it might seem as though everyone has a blog and you might not know where to begin, setting up a blog is usually quite easy and straight forward!

First you should choose is whether you would like to own a free blog or to host it yourself. You will find pluses and minuses for both options. A blog that is hosted for free means that you don’t need to pay but you have less flexibility to individualize the style and a lesser amount of memory to save photographs and documents on the Internet. Hosting the site yourself needs more work and you have to purchase an Internet domain and some web hosting but it could be worth it if you would like a personalized blog with more creative flexibility. Plenty of blog owners start with a free blog and then progress to hosting it. This is actually a good approach to discover what blogging is actually about and if you enjoy keeping a blog before needing to spend any cash.

The next thing is to think about precisely what you would like to post. This could seem like a stupid issue but it really is important and will have a large influence on how your blog evolves as time passes. If it is a private blog then you will probably blog about life and what you get up to etc. Blogs like this may very well be interesting to read and write yet they can also sometimes be tough to get famous simply because the majority of people on the web are browsing for something in particular. A good guideline to adhere to though is to put your blog in a particular subject and adhere to the topic. This can be anything – television shows, movies, music, sports, traveling, cooking, learning, business, health, fitness and so on. What is important is to pick an area which you are interested in and will maintain a level of interest. Picking a topic helps on three levels. Firstly, readers will know exactly what it is about when they visit the site. Furthermore, you will find that your site fits nicely into a network of already established blogs that gives a greater feeling of community. Additionally, this should also help you get found by search engines as they can understand the site better if you have a strong identity. This in turn will mean you get more traffic.

The next thing you need to consider is how you are going to write entries. Will they be funny, informative or political? You may enjoy writing each post differently and really show your personality or stick to one style, the choice is up to you. It is very important to show some personality – this is what makes people like you and come back. Other things to consider are images, sound clips and video clips. These can all add depth to your website. If you are reviewing a movie, why not include a video for the trailer? Similarly, if you are discussing a place you have been to, take a few pictures and include them in your article. It will help make your blog much more appealing.

The next thing people may possibly want to consider is becoming traffic for your website. This can be accomplished with several methods. Overtime, your site should steadily find a rise in visitors if you find a way to publish on a regular basis and with great content. Nevertheless, there are several techniques to produce more visitors. You can buy advertisements on websites and search engines or try to position your website higher in search engines. This is called SEO (or Search Engine Optimization). Search engines have sophisticated algorithms to assess how appropriate your website is to specific searches. If your website is very relevant than it will get displayed higher by search engines. One of the most significant techniques search engines position sites is by the number of high-quality, in-bound, one-way links. You can obtain these by creating content for article websites, presenting your site to web directories and making use of social book marking to get inbound links. You can also target certain keywords and phrases within these links to get even more benefit.

It is additionally important to be a part of the blogosphere. Having a blog is far more enjoyable when you feel you belong to a network and can engage with writers. It is also good to leave replies and send messages to other bloggers. It’s also a really good idea to bookmark blogs you frequently visit. Store your favorites with an online bookmark manager and you will be able to navigate the blogosphere much more efficiently.

Setting Up a Sales Page on a Website

Edit Article |

Posted: Oct 20, 2009 |Comments: 0
|

Every business website needs a good sales page. This is the page where you talk to your audiences about your business, and invite them to subscribe to your products and services. You not only inform them about your business but more importantly convince them to sign up, as you provide them with the things they need.

But not all people are easily convinced by the sales articles posted on the site’s sales page. Thus, if you want to do effective website promotion and attract more targeted leads to sign up and buy your goods and services, then here are some pointers you have to consider:

First, be informative. Doing a sales talk these days no longer has to be purely selling and marketing-you have to support your lines with facts and helpful information. Your target audience is looking for answers to their questions, not just the annoying sales talk which they have to purchase-that doesn’t help at all. Today’s website marketing strategy consists of actual knowledge that explains to your visitors about the cause and solutions to their issues, answers which they can apply in practice. Through helpful information, your audiences would sure be enticed to sign up with your site.

The next thing you should do when setting up a sales page is to highlight the strengths of your business. This is important because people will know what you can give them, and what will be their money’s worth. Make sure that the features you promote are either in bold, capital letters, or in slightly bigger fonts. This makes it easier for your audiences to read your items and evaluate them right away.

Another effective website marketing strategy you must do is to use white space. Having a clear, white background on your website enables your target market to read better and scroll better on your page. Dark backgrounds and contrasting colors will only make your site annoying, and you would lose more potential customers because of this.

Post a video on your page. Videos are truly of great help to every website promotion technique you would want to apply on your site. By posting videos, your audiences would see who they are dealing with, as well as find out how your services exactly work. You would also add a personal touch by being on the video, and you can speak to your audiences from there.

Videos themselves are already a stand alone website marketing strategy. When you post videos on social media sites such as YouTube, you get to inform your audiences orally about your site, and what it can give them. Some people prefer watching videos first before they proceed to the paperwork, so it is best to have them on your page.

Setting up a sales page is actually easy, as long as you know how to use the right words and media to entice your audiences. This website promotion technique would then help in generating more targeted leads which are a key in making your business prosper, and of course, more money to your bank account. 10 Mistakes to Avoid When Setting Up a Link Directory

10 Mistakes to Avoid When Setting Up a Link Directory

10 Mistakes to Avoid When Setting Up a Link Directory

When adding a link directory to a web site there are important
mistakes to avoid, or else you’ll be storing up big problems for
later on. I know, because I made some of these mistakes and
didn’t have anyone to offer any advice or tell me what I’m about
to tell you.

Don’t create a directory page with all your links on one
page.
You should have no more than 30 – 40 links to a page.
The reason is that some sites will not link to you if a page you
put their link on has too many links, because it dilutes the
value of the link to them. To understand why, you need to know
about Google Page Rank and how it’s passed to another site from
your link page. That’s a subject too lengthy for this topic.

Plan your link directory on paper first and decide what
names you are going to give each category in your link
directory. Make the names fit with the theme of your site and
try to avoid adding categories which are nothing to do with what
your site is about.

For example if your site is about Making Candles and Candle
Accessories, don’t have link categories for Computers &
Games, or Search Engine Optimization etc. The reason is that if
you want your site to achieve a good ranking with the search
engines your site should be built tightly around your theme, in
this example Candles.

Only link to web sites that relate to your site theme and
have something to offer your visitors. This refers to item 2. If
you don’t have categories for unrelated topics, you’ll be less
tempted to link to them because you don’t have a category to put
them in.

Choose names for link categories that you want to use now and
in the future,
because you can’t easily change them later
on. Once the pages are created by your link manager software, it
will use the category names you give it. So if you have a
category called “Candle Power” it will create an html page
called Candle-Power.html or something similar, using your
category name. Once this page is found and indexed by the search
engines, in time it will gain Page Rank.

If later, you change the category name to “Candle Lights” the
link manager software will create a new page called
Candle-Lights.html and you will lose the page rank you had
gained for the earlier page. If your link partners linked to you
because the page you put them on had a good page rank, renaming
the page will cause this page rank to fall to zero. As a result
your link partners may drop the link they have back to you,
which is not what you ever want to happen.

Avoid having sub-categories or sub sub-categories in your
directory
from your main category pages. The reason for this
is again to do with how search engines will rank your directory
pages. If your directory pages are more than two levels or two
clicks away from your main index or home page they will either
not be indexed by some search engines, or if they are indexed
they will achieve a lower ranking. Some web sites will not link
to you if the page you are to put the link on is more than 2
clicks away from your home page because these webmasters know
what I’ve just told you.

Ensure each page of your link directory has a link back to
your home page.
Once again the reason for this is to do with
how search engines will rank your directory pages, so make sure
these links are in place.

Don’t be obsessed at linking only to web sites that have a
good ranking
with the search engines. Look first at whether
the site has anything to offer your visitors. If it has poor or
unrelated content don’t link to it. If it has good related
content that compliments your own content but has zero or low
page rank, consider linking to it. Later on you may be glad you
provided a link, when it’s page rank improves.

Don’t use link directory software that doesn’t automatically
check links
to your web site are still present on the other
sites. Doing link checking manually can be tedious and you have
to remember to do it. Software that you can set a schedule to
check links and automatically send out emails to webmasters when
links are not found will save you a lot of time. Link management
software that will automatically suspend links and delete them
if they are repeatedly not found is an added bonus.

Don’t use standard templates that come with any link
manager
, link directory management software. You need to
modify these templates to match the look and design of your own
web site. This requires you know something about editing a web
page using an HTML editor. Also don’t use the standard email
templates, personalize them in some way, even if it’s only to
add your name.

Don’t assume you’re finished once you’ve set up your link
directory
and done all the things I’ve said. You must test
and retest every aspect to ensure everything is working
properly, before visitors arrive.

This means making an add a link request, as if you were a
visitor to your own web site. Setting up test links and making
sure these links are being checked by the software so it detects
when links are removed or defective. Making sure it sends out
email notices correctly and check the formatting is correct when
they are received. You should also check you can make backups of
your link directory database and be able to restore it in the
event of a problem.

Social Media Management Setting Your Sights On The Right Sites

Social Media Management Setting Your Sights On The Right Sites

One of the most amazing features about the Web is that it allows many people to take advantage of features they did not originate. Livejournal, Twitter, Digg, Reddit and each of the many other Social Media sites were proposed and implemented with a relatively small cadre of people, yet thousands of businesses are finding ways to use these sites for promotion and improvement every day. These sites allow for communication with the nearly captive audience that is any business’ dream.

Of course as is the case with any innovative process many businesses jump in to Social Media Marketing without understanding the problems at hand, and find themselves ignored or scorned for seeming to be incompetent. In some cases this is a failure of research, while in others it is a case of forgetting that these audiences are indeed people with complex opinions and attitudes. Combine these traits with the mass communication capability of the Internet, and you have equal potential for word of mouth fame or disaster.

Before jumping into SMM, every business needs to consider the core options available to them and see just which ones truly suit the organization and its needs. The leadership must consider the objective of their business and the audience that will facilitate this objective. Then they should consider not just which Social Media sites this audience frequents, but how to reach them in a way that makes them care. To that end, what follows is a short review of some Social Media sites and a comparison of their roles to highlight these issues.

Twitter

Twitter is Social Media at its barest; short messages are sent out to anyone following the account, usually consisting of no more than a brief comment or a short URL. US President Barack Obama relied heavily on Twitter during his successful White House bid, using it to promote rallies and campaign meetings. The very brevity of Twitter gives it some of its most unexpected strength. After all, what could be more mysterious than a message reading ‘Tyler Park, 9:30 pm, bring chips and sunglasses’? Sunglasses at night? Chips? It immediately gets the mind racing with questions and interest.

Yet in a classic example illustrating that audiences are not simply feedback devices, but actual people, consider the gone-wrong story of the Republican Party in Connecticut. In an effort to satire some of their opponents, the party set up 33 fake Twitter accounts impersonating state Democrats! Twitter shut down the accounts citing terms of service clauses against impersonating other individuals. The move raised a number of ethical questions and is a classic example that users should always ask if ‘can’ necessarily means ’should.’

Facebook and Myspace

The title of this section indicates a common perception in the media that these competing services are offering essentially the same product. In a sense this is true, as both offer users a chance to join groups, manage and customize a profile, and use a variety of applications for entertainment or business. They represent the more involved tier of Social Media, combining aspects of blogging and websites for easy access.

However the facts show that perceptions can be misleading. Facebook only allows for plain text customization, whereas Myspace allows users to customize with HTML and CSS. While this may not sound like the greatest of distinctions it does make Facebook more accessible to the ‘casual’ user of Social media, while Myspace by default becomes the realm of those more interested in website design. If your business’ aim is to recruit potential designers, this distinction alone tells you where to focus your efforts.

Digg and Reddit

These sites and others like them are in essence an Internet popularity contest. Users submit content, and other users vote on whether they find it interesting. The theory of use here is that these sites can be used as a benchmark for public opinion, based on a reading of what is popular at any given time. Except it isn’t always that simple. Digg has faced criticism that the site’s owners have a great deal of direct influence on which stories make it to the front page, which does call into question whether it actually represents public opinion.

Not the Final Word, Just a Thought

Above we mentioned the curious case of Republicans attempting a bit of satire and finding themselves called on ethical questions. Another fact to consider is the irony vote. It is not unknown or even uncommon for Internet hobbyists to vote en masse for an irrelevant news story just to see if they can make it popular as a jest. For example, the infamous and popular social site 4chan seemingly organized massive, worldwide boycotts of the Church of Scientology because it could.

Working with a professional social media marketing agency can help ensure that your online efforts are focused on the right sites, with the right message, to the right audience for maximum ROI.

Above all, the lesson that must be learned is that the Internet is not a static collection of people waiting to obey the input of various broadcasters. Each audience is composed of many distinct and individual users, many of whom are intelligent, critical thinkers with opinions and ideas of their own. If your campaign treats them as a switch to be thrown, it will fail, period. If you want your campaign to succeed, treat these audiences with respect and develop a campaign that communicates with rather than at them.

Goal Setting In Web Marketing

Goal Setting In Web Marketing

Few years back I didn’t believe in goal-setting. I thought it was something that successful people tell us to distract from what they really do. I still believe some books contain some distractive ideas that don’t really work.

One moment changed my belief about goal-setting. It happened about 3-4 years ago. I set a goal to earn $xxxx everyday from Google AdSense advertising. Meaning that I won’t have to do any real work, just earn it. And yes – that number has four digits and it’s for EACH DAY.

No one of my friends, colleagues and family believed that is ever possible. Well, I started working and finding multipliers.

A multiplier in my ideas is some element that you can start, it brings you a little money, but it doesn’t primarily relies on your efforts – meaning you can start it and it doesn’t require maintenance, then you can start something else – it brings you little more daily, etc.

Ideas like that flow from one author to another in different books. Well, I started with a measly 0.05$/day with a little site with very little traffic from search engines. Some time later I created another site that brought me another 0.05$/day. Double progress. Haha. I knew I was only somewhere about 1/50000-1/20000th from my goal. Meaning that I had to create at least 20 000 more sites to achieve the goal. It was frustrating, since each site took me at least a week. That meant that I had to spend next 383 years doing the same to achieve my goal. And I wasn’t sure exactly that Internet will be the same in next 383 years, looking how it changed in last 10 years.

So I needed to do it faster. I noticed that there are things that I do that can be done faster. Like keyword research. Being a good programmer I wrote a simple software that did pre-research for me. I paid a little for access to keywords database from some major company and built a program that accessed it. I got one free day from a week.

Then I thought that 5 cents isn’t exactly what I want from site – I added link exchange page on sites that was centralized – whenever someone requested exchange – I got all notifications in one place and accepted or declined them. Sites started to grow and receive more, like 1-3$ a day.

The rest is pretty much the same – I added more sites, did some thoughs on how to speed up process and get more from each site, experimenting with colors, positioning, etc. Whenever I found a great idea – I applied it to all future sites.

And the day of glory came. I printed that AdSense Report stating that I earned more than my original $xxxx goal. I didn’t actually tell it to my friends just not to make them envious.

One thing I knew for sure then. If I hadn’t stated that I want to earn $xxxx (exact sum) per day – I would have never achieved it. I wouldn’t be moving in correct way to do it.

Do you still think goal-setting is not for you?

Goal Setting for 2010 – Three Tips to Plot Your Course

Goal Setting for 2010 – Three Tips to Plot Your Course

“The victory of success is half won when one gains the habit of setting goals and achieving them.”
–Og Mandino

As 2009 draws to a close, business owners must look at what’s ahead in 2010.  One helpful way to identify your aspirational goals for next year is to begin with the end in mind.  Ask yourself, “If everything went perfectly next year, what would my business look like in December of 2010?”  How many employees would I have?  How many customers?  What would my gross revenues be?  What would my net revenues be?  What new services would I have launched?  What new activities would I be doing?  These types of questions can really help you narrow down on your aspirational goals.

Another fun tool is to imagine yourself at your desk at the end of next year and then in your mind, look around and write down some of the signs of success you see.  Maybe there’s a waiting list for customers to purchase your service or a Lucite award on your shelf for being a rapidly growing business in your area.  There could be a Twitter account up on your monitor and you have 2,000 followers.  Or do you see magazine articles about your business and the difference it’s making in people’s lives? I really love this imagination tip because it causes things to pop up that you might not think about directly, but the desires are there.

Finally to make these goals most likely to happen, use the S.M.A.R.T. system, which stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timed.  Vagueness is the enemy when it comes to achieving your goals.  Don’t just say you want to grow your business, make it a specific number and put a deadline with it.  And try to make sure it’s a stretch but also realistic for you.  Only you can know what if it is.  But if you did 0K last year and this year you want to do M, your plan would definitely need to show a massive increase in resources to help you jump to that level.

These three tips of beginning with the end in mind, imagining your environment at the end of next year and making your goals S.M.A.R.T. can help you chart your course for 2010.

Tips On Setting Up Your Website

Online marketing, multi-level marketing (MLM), internet marketing sometimes is confused with just putting up a website and waiting for people climb aboard. Not utilizing the full extent of your website with full online and offline market efforts will be a waste of time and great disappointment.

When it comes to making the sale, the major focus is the single page that the visitor lands on. For the potential client to make a good buying decision you need a good product page or a content page that leads them into a buying conclusion.

Here is a basic list of marketing tips to new and potential online customers to increase a better range of strategies necessary for a successful online marketing campaign.
