Reciprocal Linking – Still Beneficial To Search Engine Optimisation / Marketing Efforts?
Posted: Feb 04, 2010 |
Many questions have been raised recently on forums, blogs and at Search Engine Conferences around the world, as to whether reciprocal linking is still a worthwhile Search Engine Optimisation and/or Marketing technique. Numerous webmasters and website owners think that reciprocal links are valueless because of the idea that reciprocal linking is likened to spam and that interlinking cancels out any link value. We believe however, that there is no such thing as a worthless link (whether you link back or not) provided it comes from a relevant, trustworthy and sound source.
Link Farms are often associated with reciprocal linking. This is a widespread misconception. Link Farms hyperlink to every other website within a group with the sole purpose of obtaining higher ranking in search results. It is important to note that these websites are predominantly unrelated and of low quality. This type of linking is considered to be Search Engine spam.
Another phenomenon created with the intention to manipulate Search Engine results are Paid Link Schemes. It is important to know that whilst not all paid links are illegitimate, many are, and again it comes back to the quality and relevancy of links returned. It is furthermore important to note that paid Link schemes are actually a violation of Google’s webmaster guidelines.
We support the practice of reciprocal linking between ‘individual’ sites that have selectively exchanged links with other relevant and high quality sites. Such practice is thus neither Link Farming nor Search Engine Spam. There is still value in reciprocal linking if you apply the two key factors of Relevancy & Quality.
1. Relevancy
Google (in particular) along with other Search Engines use links to determine your website’s popularity. It is Google’s goal to display the most relevant websites to a search query and how your site ranks in these search results is in part based on how Google sees the sites that link to yours. Having hundreds of inbound links from irrelevant sites to yours will not have a positive effect on the rankings of your site and can have a detrimental effect on your site if the inward links are associated with any Link Farms or Paid Link Schemes from ‘bad neighbourhoods’. It is vital to research and reciprocate links with sites which are of a similar or related theme to that of yours.
2. Quality
Of critical importance is the quality of the sites that link to you. A content rich site of a similar theme, that itself is ‘popular’ in the Search Engine indexes, will be considered of higher quality than one that has had little thought to content and has not gained in popularity via inward links. Likewise, in order to encourage inward links to your own site, the more useful content you offer, the greater the chances that other website owners will find that content valuable to their users and link to it.
Don’t be tempted to just create pages with content which is off topic to your site, simply to encourage links, this will just result in your website receiving non relevant, low quality links and therefore will not help with your rankings.
So to answer the question, is Reciprocal Linking still beneficial to your search engine optimisation / marketing efforts? – Yes, it is, but it should always be approached with both Relevancy and Quality in mind.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Reciprocal Links ‘ Why They’re Still Important
Reciprocal linking may not improve your rankings as much as one way links do, but, two way links are still an important element of any linking strategy. At least some of your off page optimisation time should be spent on soliciting reciprocal links
For anyone new to internet marketing, reciprocal linking is an important component of search engine optimisation.
It’s simply a method where you place a link on your site to another webmaster’s site, and they return the compliment by placing a link on their site to yours. Traditionally, that is why you see “links pages” on a lot of web sites. It’s the page where Webmasters place their outbound links to the other sites, usually in return for a link back.
Initially it can be a hard to find partners who are willing to reciprocate links with your site. Its essentially the chicken and the egg problem.
For example, another site that has decent page rank will usually not be interested in trading links with you, because your new site will have zero page rank and therefore not add any juice to their rankings!
So basically you need to have inbound links to attract inbound links!
I therefore tend to concentrate on requesting links from related sites that have a low Page Rank to start off with, usually three or less, until I have at least a page rank of 3 myself.
I don’t contact higher ranking web sites until my site gets some PR of it’s own.
So how exactly do you go about finding link exchange partners?
The simplest way is to start with Google. Type in one of your keyword phrases together with the words “add url” or “add link”. The results returned by Google will list sites in your niche that are looking to swap links.
The returned pages will show you what you need to do to get your link on their sites. Usually it’s as easy as adding your site details to the fields on the returned page, and then copying and pasting their hyperlink code to your own links page.
When you publish your own “link” page so that you can display links from other sites, you need to add more that just links to your new page.
I suggest you do the following: Add some relevant content to the page as as well as just links to make the page more attractive to the Search Engines. Don’t call it Links Page, call it “sites of interest” or something similar; Ensure it links directly to your homepage; Split the site links into sections with good Keyword headings and description; Finally, get some inbound links to it!
Why effectively optimise your “links page”?
Well if you do, your “links” page will earn a decent Page Rank, rank well and get traffic. If it does, you will soon have other webmasters contacting you to have their link placed on your links page! Not only that, if your links page gets a decent page rank, you’ll attract higher page rank link partners to exchange with, boosting your rankings further!
Next, do what the sites returned in your Google results are doing. Place an “Add URL” page on your website and make it easy for other webmasters to exchange links with you! Again, add lots of keyword rich text to the page to help it in the rankings so that webmasters find it!
Ensure “Add Url” appears in the page title, page heading and in the body of the page along you’re your keywords. Also, use “Add Url” as the anchor text for the links to the page.
Finding reciprocal linking partners doesn’t have to be hard work, and it can be fruitful, particularly over the longer term. As you find partners and they find you, your inbound links will grow naturally over time.

Is There Still Any Importance of Incomming Links for Google?
Is There Still Any Importance of Incomming Links for Google?
From recent drops in PageRanks of various websites, another waves of discussion was started and the owners of websites who lost their ranks on Google were stunned initialy but when they recovered from the shock, they pointed their fingers to the SEO guys. Anyhow, after these shock question was raised that; Is There Still Any Importance of Incoming Links for Google?. In answering this question we found rumours again. So, I myself as new SEO student, tried to find answers and I found following notes from google.
(Following comments are copied from google’s page google.com/technology/index.html and printed here only for your information)
Google Still Says:
“PageRank Explained
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at considerably more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; for example, it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important.” Using these and other factors, Google provides its views on pages’ relative importance.
Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don’t match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines dozens of aspects of the page’s content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it’s a good match for your query.
Integrity
Google’s complex automated methods make human tampering with our search results extremely difficult. And though we may run relevant ads above and next to our results, Google does not sell placement within the results themselves (i.e., no one can buy a particular or higher placement). Advertising Domain Names: Buying expired domains for PR, does it still work?
Advertising Domain Names: Buying expired domains for PR, does it still work?
I’ve done some experiments over the past few months about expiring domains with PR to see if it is worth your while to catch these expired and deleted domains.
My idea why I would like to use expired domains is the notion that old domains are favored than new domains, and to get instant PR.

So I set out to find deleted domains with PR that I can register. One characteristic of domains I was looking for was that the domain still had a PR, and it was still listed in google.
I won’t be mentioning the actual domains here as I need to control the results and prevent people from making backlinks to these domains.
I registered about 4 domains, some have PR2 and PR3. Some have a few pages indexed, some have a few thousand. I also bought a couple of new domains for my new projects.
I found out that google rarely visits these domains so I need to prime it but with some fresh backlinks. After creating some backlinks to these domains, two domains eventually lost their PR. These two domains have only a few pages indexed in google. In one domain, I did a 301 permanent redirect to the new index page. This domain retained its PR. One key difference this domain has compared to the other two is that this domain has thousands of pages indexed in google.
In another domain, I did a 301 and redirect it to a fresh new domain. The result is that the new domain got indexed faster and more pages were indexed compared to another new domain I registered at the same time. However, PR was down to 0.

There is also a case where I did a 301 redirect from an old deleted domain with PR and never got any benefit from it.
In conclusion, there is still conflicting results on whether buying deleted/expired domains. Some works, some don’t. However, what seem to work is that…
a. Old delete domains does contain traffic from existing backlinks. If the old domain has tons of backlinks, it still does generate some traffic.
b. Other search engines such as yahoo and msn do not seem to have an biases against expired/deleted domains.
Publishing News Articles Is Still A Secret
Publishing News Articles Is Still A Secret
Many persons rather not to write news articles as they believe that researching the topic and writing unique contents will not be simple for them. When you write a news article you need to have your own ingenuity. It is not simple to find out other news articles on the web and duplicating and pasting them to produce your own. This is categorized as a false business and is a breach of copyright which is a definite breakdown.
You may be startled to learn that there is an easier way of doing things. Surely you are familiar with Public Domain. These are news articles written by many authors that have established their news articles to be public domain. This means that anybody can use them for whatever purpose they want. The writers of public domain news articles have waived their rights to their works which means that the public can copy them as their own.
Using public domain news articles is one of the easiest ways to write news articles. You can correct them and rewrite them in your own language and fine tune them according to how you want. You have all the ideas there so it’s simply a matter of finding suitable material for the matter you want to write about. It takes all the effort and time out of spending hours on the internet or in the local library searching for enough news for your article. Insert your own keywords and keyword phrases, give it a gripping eye-catching title and there you have it.
The main advantage of using this method is that you keep away from the risk of getting sued for breach of copyright as the news articles were already in the public domain. Another advantage is that there is far less work required than would be needed if starting from scratch. To cap it all, just think of all the time it saves.
By using public domain news articles for your site or for any project is that added factor of saving you a lot of money. It rules out the need to hire experienced and seasoned writers that some website operators use to write their articles. An average of five hundred worded news articles may only cost you about 10 to 15 dollars. Although this does not seem very expensive, just think about how this cost could soar if you need hundreds of news articles to fill the requirements of your site.
Public domain news articles are also very useful if you need to publish articles for an e-zine or newsletter. There is no need to appoint some paid writers or spend hours scratching your head searching for suitable material for your e-zine or newsletter. You can save time, money and the possibility of being sued for copyright infringement by using public domain material and fill the pages with what you need.
This is a virtual untapped resource and many people fail to realize the true value of public domain news articles. The power of news articles with keywords and keyword phrases has been invaluable in recent years for many internet businesses and sites that want to rank high in search engine results.
The demand for news articles has grown in the past few years and there has been a significant increase in the number of news article writers. This is especially so as newer and newer subjects and topics have arisen on the internet so demand has also grown.
Forget the negative thoughts that writing a news article is a difficult task. It is so simple once you notice the value of public domain news articles. Find them by doing a search in the search engines, read them, choose what is appropriate for your needs, copy and paste and then edit them and make them your own. What could be easier?

It’s 2008 and you Still Don’t Know the Benefits Web 2.0?
It’s 2008 and you Still Don’t Know the Benefits Web 2.0?
I sent an email to my mailing list few days ago and mentioned Web 2.0. Now you may already be familar with it so you don’t need to read on. But, I received over 100 emails from people who did not know what it is and many thought it was a software program. So, I want to clarify what Web 2.0 is.
I want to keep this simple. My definition of Web 2.0 is any website, blog or forum that allows you to interact, too leave information, especially a link to your website. They are social sites.
For instance, if you visit someones blog and they allow you to make comments and leave your web address, that’s basic Web 2.0. If you visit a forum and make a comment and can leave a link to your website, that’s Web 2.0. Myspace.com and FaceBook.com are Web 2.0 and other sites like Squidoo.com, gather.com, hubpages.com, clipmark.com, digg.com and scribd.com are all Web 2.0 sites.
Now why is Web 2.0 important?
Because the search engines are starting to give authority rankings to many of these Web 2.0 websites. In other words, they consider these sites to be important. Because of this, they give links from these websites importance. One link from a prominent Web 2.0 site can be worth 100 links from regular websites. Plus, these are one way links. You do not have to link back from your website.
Because these websites are interactive, you are able to set up accounts and post information and give links to your websites. Google spiders these websites often, as often as every minute. If you have posted relevant information and included a link to your website and used keyword phrases that are not too competitive, its possible for your listing to be ranked in the top ten of Google within hours.
Someone sees this link, clicks on it, goes to the Web 2.0 site, clicks on your link and ends up on your website.
So, the main advantage to these Web 2.0 sites is that they can send a lot of targeted traffic to your website and help you in your search engine listings and page rank and its free.
There is a lot of information on Web 2.0 on the Internet. I will also be covering this subject in my Coaching Club.
You are going to start seeing more and more listings in a Google search from Web 2.0 sites. They will soon crowd out the other websites. If you are depending on organic search engine listing for traffic to your website, you had better get real familar with Web 2.0 quickly.
Already, when you search on Google, you will see Wikipedia listings, news listings, maybe a video from youtube.com, which is also a Web 2.0 site. Google refers to this as Universal search and will fully take over by the end of this year.
To stay up with this, you will need to post videos on youtube.com, set up lenses on squidoo.com, submit images to flickr.com, use Google Base, etc.
PR5 From Free Backlinks – Can You Still Do It?
PR5 From Free Backlinks – Can You Still Do It?
Google’s Page Rank algorithm is getting harder to crack by the day. It seems like every niche online is getting more competitive and grabbing those key page 1 rankings in Google is getting tougher and more competitive. Page 1 rankings in Google and even Yahoo and MSN basically boils down to backlinks.
It really is as simple (and as complicated) as that. A couple of years ago you could easily get your website to PR5 by just building free backlinks. In the last 2 years however the buying and selling of high PR links has taken over the world of SEO. Yes, you can buy your way to the top, but is it worth it and is it a sustainable solution?
As I said before, the only thing worse than not having a high Page Rank is losing your high Page Rank. This is common for lazy marketers who only rely on buying links. See, most of those (really expensive) high PR links are like a hungry monster and you will be charged a monthly or annual fee to keep the link. At a link you can see how quickly it can add up to become a very expensive solution.
So, the real question is whether you can still get a new site up to PR5 by using only free links?
Some of my recent experiments confirms that it is still possible and that it is not nearly as hard as most marketers make it out to be. When I say building free links it does not mean that it’s all manual links. This is where most marketers gets scared. When they hear the words building ‘free backlinks’ the first thing they think is ‘hard work’ so they avoid it and go looking for the next quick fix.
In my experiments with building high Page Rank mini-sites I simply did not have the budget to go and buy 00 worth of links. Instead, I used as many tools as I can get my hands on to help me automate as much of the process as possible. I’ve now narrowed it down to 7 sources that gets me tons of high quality and relevant links. It takes me about 15 minutes a day per site and that’s it.
It’s important not to lose sight of what back links are really about. It’s simply a way for Google to determine how ‘important’ your site is. When it comes to Page Rank there are 3 aspects that determines it’s value:
1. Quality
The higher the PR of the page linking to you, the more valuable it is to your PR
2. Relevancy
The more relevant and ‘on topic’ the site linking to you is, the more valuable the links will be to your PR
3. Quantity
The more links you get, the more ‘authoritative’ Google will see your site. Be careful with quantity though as it can work against you.
If you combine these 3 factors you can have a very powerful formula for building free back links. If you can find sites with a high PR, in your niche and find a lot of them you can increase your Page Rank faster than anything else. And it will be free.
So, the short answer is ‘yes’ you can still get to PR5 by getting only free backlinks, but you will need to be consistent in your link building. The Linkbuilding Blueprint is just that. I use it every day to help me follow a no-brainer formula. In the end getting a high page rank boils down to the marketer who is the most consistent and persistent in building links every day.
You can download The Linkbuilding Blueprint for free. It’s a simple step-by-step plan that only takes 15 minutes a day. Use it to get Page 1 Rankings and to boost your site to PR3 in just 7 weeks.

Are Reciprocal Links Still Good for Your Best Home Business
Are Reciprocal Links Still Good for Your Best Home Business
The best links you should try to build for your best home business are definitely one way links. One way links are back links which link from another website to yours without any need for you linking back from your site. A lot of people with great home business ideas are unsure of reciprocal link exchange. Has reciprocal linking lost its value in search engine optimization?
Forget Traditional Reciprocal Link Exchange
Best home business owners have now realized that Google and other search engines do not favor the once popular traditional link exchange where webmasters used to just exchange links freely, mostly non-relevant ones. In fact it is possible that Google may well penalize those webmasters who have excessive non-relevant links using this method. Internet marketers are now resorting to smarter home business ideas to obtain relevant links for their best home business.
How To Get Relevant Links To Your Best Home Business Site
Traditional Way To Get Reciprocal Links
Most internet marketers with home business ideas are still adopting the time consuming way of relevant link exchange even though they may have advanced SEO tools to help them search for link partners. Once a relevant link partner has been identified, the marketer starts to correspond with the potential link partner to obtain agreement on the link exchange. The whole process can be exhaustive, as most of us including me have encountered before. It may be weeks or even months before a link partnership is formed. Sometimes, even the best home business webmasters do not reply to such requests or they are simply not interested or found your link not suitable.
There are many other best home business owners who create a reciprocal link exchange page inviting all kinds of websites to link to them. This approach may have some initial success for some marketers to obtain some relevant links. However it requires the owner with home business ideas to exercise good control over whom he approves as link partners. It’s a very labor intensive process and most of times, the webmaster may well just approve all link partners including non-relevant ones too to expedite a tedious task.
A Smarter, Easier Way To Get Relevant Links
Relevant Link Exchange – Recently there have been a good number of new sites who offer fully automated relevant link exchange services. They provide best home business sites with link exchanges with hundreds of totally relevant websites, which in turn increase their optimization theme and allow them to rank higher for targeted keywords they rank for their home business ideas website.
1. Select Your Keywords used in best home business – Once you have registered with the relevant link exchange, which usually offers both free and upgraded services, you will be asked to provide about five of your keyword phrases which you currently rank for your website. These keywords should be found in your website and well optimized too example home business ideas.
2. Website Description – The next thing you are required to do is provide a service category example home business ideas and one or two descriptions of your website or best home business using these keyword phrases. This will increase your keyword search engine marketing efforts.
3. Install Service Codes Into Website – Finally you will be given some html codes to install into your best home business website.
Once you have completed your submission for your top home business ideas site, the relevant link exchange with link partners is fully automated and you may start to obtain many relevant links from your partners without doing any real work. Over time as the registered number of websites increases, your links to your best home business site increase too along with your page rank.
As a registered member of the relevant link exchange site you can easily check from the website’s control panel who your relevant partners are, their page rank and if they fall into the keyword phrases category you have selected. A good relevant link exchange site should provide you with the capability to cancel any links with your partners for whatever reasons you may have, for example low page rank. You therefore still maintain full control of which website links to your best home business site and that is important.
Most of these relevant link exchanges will accord these back links to your best home business site only on a weekly basis to ensure natural link building growth and to avoid Google and other search engines deeming it as spam.. Depending on the link exchange you join, some of them provide your home business ideas site a link page listing out your partners in such a way that it appears as another natural page of your website.
It’s a simple concept that can boost your home business ideas, which may eventually get you many relevant links from similar niche partners who have similar keyword phrases. As it is fully automated, there is no real effort required and quite different from other link building activities. I think most best home business owners would welcome such services and agree it is a smarter way to get relevant links in order to rank higher in the search engines.

Are You Still Using Merchant Provided Landing Pages
Are You Still Using Merchant Provided Landing Pages
When you first decide to market a product or service as an affiliate, more often than not the merchant will provide a set tools for you to use in your campaigns. These range from banners in all sizes, text links and maybe some form of interactive tools. Sometimes they’ll provide landing pages or at the very least banners large enough to serve as stand alone landing page, or, you can mix and match banners to create a landing page of your own.
This is all well and good, in fact, merchants who want their affiliates to succeed should provide these tools. However, by using the exact same tools as every other affiliate on the Internet you really have no way to set yourself apart from them and create a unique presence for your campaigns.
To avoid this and give your traffic a unique pass through from your site to the merchant site you have three options. Create your own creatives, hire someone to create them for you or to purchase premade landing pages or creatives that target the niche you’re marketing.
When it comes to pre-made landing pages, one of the nice things about many on the market is they provide you with a low cost alternative to hiring out the work and a way to set yourself apart from affiliates marketing the same programs you are. In addition to that, if they’re designed correctly there will also be a creative way to easily insert portions of your own text or information to make the page even more unique.
More often than not, pre-made landing pages and other creatives are easy to modify. Designers typically make it so that all you have to do is insert your affiliate link and your good to go. If the landing page has a section for unique text or selling points, more often than not it’s simply a matter of putting your text in. Usually, after these quick edits you can save the page and upload it and it’s ready to send traffic to.
By going outside the norm and using landing pages or banners that you create yourself or purchase, will give your traffic something new and something they haven’t seen before which increases curiosity and click through rates.
