In more ways than one, technology and its ever valuable aspects have made their presence felt in almost every sphere of human existence. No sooner had the very first trickle of technological juice spruced up the veins of a much pining-for-change, wannabe society, everything began to make sense. Very soon, rapid developments in every industrial sector saw its way to a lush future, backed up by a constantly evolving technology.

Turning the whole new ballgame entirely into their favor, players such as video game developers, communication giants, IT honchos and even electronics firms took advantage of the fertile conditions. What ensued after that was no less than a cryptic scripture that shaped up as a chronology of research and development activities in various areas. And what made all the mumble-jumble simpler for a layman was a regular insight into the whole affair through technology news and digital guides available on various websites.

There is more than one advantage that you can squeeze out of the feeds and remain updated about the latest developments. Besides getting enlightened about newer technologies being introduced in relevant industries, you can also slew through a bevy of players implementing these technologies in their end products, along with a glimpse into their corporate statistics. This, in turn loans you wisdom enough to lean towards the expertise of a particular player and choose its product. A meticulous research across websites and related channels offering technology news and digital guides on products of your interest will thus land you in an advantageous position.

However, the advantages of keeping a tab on the latest technology news do not stop rolling here as they are not restricted merely to the end users. Even industries are constantly on the prowl for news on newer technologies to deliver an edge to their operations. The medical industry is one such player, which keeps the doors to its research and development cavern open to let the latest technologies in and turn them to their advantage. Digital guides about technologies available for medical research can be found on numerous websites, which register tremendous hits owing to the growing interest of researchers and bio-medics.

How Local Search Technology is Changing Our Sense of Community

How Local Search Technology is Changing Our Sense of Community

Throughout the depressing news on oil, foreclosures, credit, jobs and stocks; there has been little attention paid to search technology, which is quietly changing our sense of community and the way we do business.

Several trends suggest local search is not just a fad but a tsunami. Each day more and more local searches conducted. Yahoo estimates their local searches have grown by 76% in just 12 months.

This spike in use is partly due to users becoming more skilled at using local search to find exactly what they want. Search logs reveal users are adding more modifiers or attributes to describe more specifically what they want. And they are finding it.

All of this is resulting in a huge fragmentation of the Internet from global to local to niche and hyper-niche. These local niche sites or “tail sites” are popping up to meet consumer demands for more information and direct access to local markets.

Additionally more searches are being done per individual. Yahoo reports their user logs show average user local queries up from eight to twelve per month. These statistics are showing that users are finding what they are locally searching for.

The good news for local businesses is that they can now market in areas outside of their immediate location. The bad news is outside competitors can do the same thing.

Businesses can now create promotional campaigns that can compliment an online experience with an in-store experience; or combine a virtual experience with a real experience. This double barrel approach using both real and virtual appears to be the current hot ticket.

It’s called ROBO: Research Online, Buy Offline and it is the true tsunami. The trends are also showing online research often leads directly to an onsite office or store visit.

On high consideration items like cars, fully 89% of all buyers research online before making their new car purchase.

While only 10% of actual purchases are made online; 90% are still made offline. Still, that 10% represents 0 Billion dollars in sales.

Small retail merchants are also complaining about a reverse threat to their businesses: ROBO Reversed. Customers will come into their stores to see and feel a product and then go home to their computers and buy it cheaper online.

Another growing trend is the coming together of local markets and social networks, like Twitter, Facebook and Youtube.

With a burgeoning presence of smaller and smaller businesses on the web, local business marketing is seeing a rapid shift away from radio, TV and newspaper to local search marketing.

It’s simply a matter of Return on Investment or ROI. Advertising is an investment and increasingly the better returns are coming from search marketing and not traditional media advertising.

This better ROI is because search marketing is an entirely different way of marketing. Advertisers can target a narrower niche market with very appealing promotional campaigns at a fraction of the cost of traditional media.

A major advantage of local search marketing is shortened marketing cycles; the results are known quickly and changes can be made “on the fly.” With traditional marketing, results may not be known for weeks or months.

In the age of the Internet, as the saying goes, “he who hesitates is lost.”

With this new capability to market geocentrically, local search marketing is changing the way we buy and sell. Cars, home and garden, professional services, financial services and insurance, real estate and entertainment are increasingly being found and purchased through search technology.

We all are watching as TV and radio viewing drops, newspapers shrink and telephone directories become obsolete. This same local search technology is now beginning to drive local as well as global marketing.

In the past we chose our friends and business dealings with those we physically knew. Today, with local search technology, we can choose our friends and business dealings with anyone connected to cyberspace.

Technology News and Gadgets – Evolving Science

Technology News and Gadgets – Evolving Science

As a great majority of the world’s young population would agree, ever since the advent of the internet new technologies, news and devices have become available, things that were even unimaginable such as an infra-red and virtual laser projection keyboard, phones with cameras, mp3s, video and internet browsing capabilities are now out there and ready to be tested.

Most of this technology is actually still unknown to some people. For instance, TiVos became popular because they can record TV programs with high quality and have a great storage capacity, which completely turns video cassette players obsolete, but there are alternative gadgets and technologies such as video capture cards or USB peripherals that can do the very same thing but without costing us a monthly rental fee.

Bluetooth and WiFi are relatively new concepts which most computer users don’t fully understand but it is used often through Laptops, PDAs and Cell phones. The fact is that users sometimes are unaware of what the technology implies and how it works, they just want to use it and know that it works. While that may be the case with most of us it is always nice to have someone to ask these type of questions when such information is needed.

Fortunately, all that is required to access a vast amount of information regarding gadgets and tech news is a computer with web access. There are several tech portals which deliver several headlines a day so the best way to keep up with them is to subscribe freely to their news and updates feed so that they can be read from one RSS Feed reader, this is the case of blogs, article sites, etc.

Tech forums are also useful when trying to get reviews or opinions about a certain gadget. For example, many people don’t know what the iphone can be “hacked”, this particular term doesn’t mean that someone will access our phone and steal our ring tones and phone numbers, what it means is that extra functionality and applications can be added to unlock or add more features. The same thing can be said of the new gaming consoles from Nintendo “Wii”, most users do not know that Wii’s controllers can be used to play games on laptops or PCs using the motion sensors they have built in and a small application.

The bottom line is, ever since the invention of the web, new technologies and gadget have emerged and they keep emerging, so it is important to keep up through constantly updated social sites, news sites, forums and blogs.

Website Marketing : Technology Developing At Breakneck Speed

Website Marketing : Technology Developing At Breakneck Speed

Technology for people working in website marketing is developing at “breakneck speed” one industry expert has said.

Leading business-to-business Serach engine optimisation specialist Rick Segal has claimed that the speed and expansiveness of technology advances in website marketing is what helps the sector to remain competitive.

Speaking at the Technology for Marketing & Advertising (TFM&A) event 2010, which took place recently in London, Mr Segal said it was innovation that kept people working in website promotion engaged.
“The great thing about a conference like this is just how much this year is brand new compared to last year and the year before,” he said, adding, “in this field, the pace of technology, the pace of innovation, is at a breakneck speed.”

Mr Segal said that the pace and breadth of improvements being offered by marketing technology providers engages and challenges marketers.

A recent survey by Alterian explored the extent to which businesses integrate marketing technologies across their organisation.

The survey revealed that 66 per cent of respondents planned to invest in social media marketing (SMM) in the next 12 months.

Over half said they were placing a ‘fair’ or ’significant’ amount of effort on moving from a campaign-centric direct marketing model towards multi-channel customer engagement.

However, just over 40 per cent said they did not incorporate clickstream and web analytics data into their customer and email database.

Search engine optimisation specialist Nathan McDonald recently noted that an increasing number of people working in website promotion were beginning to wake up to the benefits of social media, particularly Twitter.

However, he stressed the importance of integrating social media campaigns with other website marketing ventures in order to maximise their potential.

Technology News Feed – Are you New to Rss?

Technology News Feed – Are you New to Rss?

If so here is a introduction to what RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is and how your website will benefit from offering an RSS feed to your visitor’s. “RSS is used to provide items containing short descriptions of web content together with a link to the full version of the content.” (from Wikipedia)

According to a report from the Pew Internet & American Life Project, 5% (6 million) Americans online consume news and information through RSS aggregators. So the market is already out there!

But what are RSS Feeds?

RSS is a smooth channel of communication between publishers and visitor’s. Since RSS has grown in recent popularity, more website owners are beginning to experiment with and use RSS feeds to deliver content in new and exciting ways.

But RSS is not only about text. You can easily use it to deliver audio content, video content and even PowerPoint presentations and PDF files. fox news RSS feed A number of RSS search engines and RSS directories exist that allow you to freely submit RSS feeds. Feeds are generally categorized and grouped together by subject. Web surfers looking for RSS feeds about a specific subject will often search the RSS directories, to locate a feed that matches their specific criteria. Topic specific RSS feed and podcasting directories are also emerging. Choose a web feed’s category carefully and only submit relevant feeds to topic specific directories.

Once Windows Longhorn is released in late 2006 users will be able to find, subscribe to and read RSS feeds all the while having very little knowledge of how RSS works. Microsoft is helping to make RSS very user friendly. At the top of each RSS Feed (when you look in the source code) you will see some important info as the date and time the RSS feed was created or updated.

Some RSS Features you must see are:

1. RSS is the free way of getting your content delivered every time.

2. Every time you update your RSS feed by adding new content items to the RSS file, the user is notified of that through his RSS aggregator, making the content immediately available to him, without it having to face any SPAM filters and other barricades on the way.

3. In a time when spam filters are blocking much of the content visitor’s have asked for, the biggest benefit to using RSS is that RSS gives publishers and readers the chance to connect, and for good ideas to be shared, without the clutter of unsolicited email messages.

4. You can add your feed to RSS search engines and RSS directories.

5. RSS can also enhance your search engine rankings as well (with advance scripts as the TrafficBoosterPro).

There is little argument from webmasters and publishers that RSS brings in traffic. RSS feeds have yet to hit the mainstream, but they are beginning to appear on prominent web sites including CNN, MSNBC, Yahoo, and even Google. While many sites are now publishing their own RSS feed, they fail to pursue the important step of promoting it.

Losing your Social Skills? : Online Marketing Business and Technology Uh-ohs

Losing your Social Skills? : Online Marketing Business and Technology Uh-ohs

Starting, growing, and maintaining an online marketing business is something billions of people worldwide are trying to do as one of the ways to stay hip with technology. If you don’t have a PC, notebook, ipod, Utube video, Facebook profile, MP3 player, and the whole shebang, you are just not with the program.

I guess that means I’m out of it, even though I am an online marketing business owner, because I only own a PC, and don’t even have a cell phone or text messaging. In fact, text messaging has become my number one pet peeve lately, with the cell phone being a close second.

People love cells and text messaging to the point that the person they are with in the current moment is less important than checking for, or writing messages to someone else! Uh-oh! There’s no better way to make someone feel like an object rather than a person than to tune her out in favor of that cell or text message.

Trust me folks, this is not a handy social skill in your personal life, or your online marketing business life! Are you losing it because of technology? If you are trying to win over new prospects and customers, you better not be thinking your incoming cell or text message is more important than who you are with!

This is a sure way to lose business if you are not giving your potential customers 100% of your attention when trying to make a deal, sign up a new member, or just get someone’s feet wet with your online marketing business programs and services.

If you think this is petty information from an opinionated online marketing business owner, then think again! Do you remember being a kid and watching TV with someone, and asking a burning question only to be told, “Shhhh! I’m watching this!” or “Shhhh! I want to hear this”? How did that make you feel?

It probably made you feel less important than a piddly piece of technology! If you run a business, you can’t afford to let it zap you of your social skills. Yes, you have to spend time working on the PC or notebook to get your work done. But you can’t expect to run a healthy online marketing business when you shut out the rest of the real world and real people in it!

Have you ever gone out for a nice dinner and the person you’re with pulls out their text messaging? How embarrassing is that!? As your potential customer, that tells me that you are an online marketing business owner who finds me boring, and you don’t care, or think I am at all important compared to the technology you have to attend to. Uh-oh!

Now you may think that communicating online in discussion forums, chat rooms, MSN, and this whole cell phone and text messaging thing is still interacting with others. But wait a minute! You are still losing an essential component of human interaction here!

The human brain is capable of sending a piece of written text over the phone, but only when you are face-to-face with someone and in their presence, can the human brain release neurons that feel what the other person is feeling, sense what they are sensing. You only get a gist of this online.

Empathy is something we can all have but it’s developed by being with people, not by having a relationship with your computer. If you know that human relationships are the essence of all our online marketing businesses, then you will realize the importance of in-person contact with others.

The point of this article is to make you aware that your online marketing business and other techno-gadgets of this new techno-internet age may be ruining your social skills. These skills are so important in building our business and personal relationships.

Remember that your online marketing business is about relationships, not about technology. If you have well developed social skills by being around other people, your business will attract more customers.

Social Media Marketing – A Broad Reaching Social Technology

Social Media Marketing – A Broad Reaching Social Technology

Social media marketing is really a rapidly growing technology that allows the ways and means for people to interact socially. Examples of social media marketing tools are Linkedln, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and You Tube. Defined, it means using such online tools such as blogs, marketing, customer service, advertising, and public relations. There are some fundamental concepts to this marketing venue that comprise its basic online activities like creating a buzz which is a way to attract attention. Buzz is perhaps what makes online social networking work. It relies on news worthy events, blogs, videos, and even tweeting. It is a very powerful marketing tool.

Being an advertising method, social media marketing is a method that relies on various online social network services which can be email or instant messaging for example. Social networking websites are becoming huge communication sites where people gather to share information, news, and idle chat. Recently many of these services like MySpace, Twitter, and Linkedln have developed ways to combine conventional email and instant messaging into their services. Until fairly recently these type of social networking tools were thought to be used only by techies and nerds. Nowadays, more and more people want to know how to use these services for marketing their brands.

Historically speaking, online social media marketing has been around for several years. People have been connecting to blogs for the past couple of years and even before the World Wide Web was created, folks were connecting to Usenet News. Actually, the early dial-up bulletin board services users were exchanging primitive text messages and limited graphics. There are some interesting parallels between the early days of online social networking and today’s most popular tools and services. That’s good news for the aspiring online marketing entrepreneur. If you are looking to market something online, this venue has some powerful capabilities for your business.

If you want to use online social media marketing as a means to promote your business, there are several thinks to consider. The key to remember when using this tool to market your business is that you have to target people who have a common interest in your brand. If you develop online social friends that have your same interests your community will grow as more people run across your blogs and posts. It’s analogous to using word of mouth to get your brand popularized. Your social networking can bring new friends into the fold for your business marketing efforts.

Amadeus Consulting’s This Week in Technology – May 3rd, 2010: Twitter Revolution

Amadeus Consulting’s This Week in Technology – May 3rd, 2010: Twitter Revolution

Twitter™ is changing.  Here is what is happening and what it means for Internet marketing and search visibility.

Twitter launched in 2006 much to the speculation of many onlookers who doubted its usefulness and future success. However the 140-character message site has had tremendous success, both in terms of users (it is currently adding 300,000 per day and has over 100 million registered users) and in terms of usefulness as over 50 million tweets are sent each day.

Even so, as Twitter’s creator Evan Williams says, Twitter still struggles with relevance. Many people just do not “get” Twitter, and the micro-blogging site has a lot of room for improvement for growth as a development platform.

This week at Chirp, Twitter’s developer conference, Twitter announced many new additions and upcoming changes to the service. This includes a new advertising platform as well as Twitter’s own versions of extensions and add-ons, such as BlackBerry® and Androidâ„¢ phone applications.

This has interesting and exciting potentials for marketers and business people, as well as some unfortunate side effects for some businesses.

Twitter Promoted Tweets

Twitter’s advertising will not be a traditional advertising platform, and will not run traditional Internet ads such as banner ads or other visual advertisements. Instead, Twitter’s Promoted Tweets platform will insert “promoted” tweets into a user’s feed.

These Promoted Tweets are ads, but they have the general look and appearance of other tweets, except that they are designated as “promoted by…” Twitter also measures the resonance of these ads and can stop showing ads to users that are not interested in the product or the ad.

These ads will be sent to the followers of the brand, and will appear with their timeline. Also slightly similar to Google’s sponsored links, these ads will also appear during searches and can be integrated into trending topics by placing hashtags or keywords into the ad. For example, Apple® could run a promoted tweet using “iPadâ„¢,” or “#iPad” or something totally irrelevant to the product such as “#ladygaga.”

For advertisers, this can be a great way to connect to users and create brand recognition and relevance, which eventually works through the process to become sales and revenue. Although Twitter will, and should, limit the persistence of these ads so as to not let them become spammy, or overtake the service, it still provides an excellent channel for better engaging the Twitter community.

It also lets advertisers send out ads in real-time, and lets users spread the ad by re-tweeting it to their followers. This can be an excellent tool for building limited-time promotions or deals.

Also, as Twitter suggests, these ads will have to be a part of the conversation or community in order to be effective. Simply sending out calls to action will not be an effective method for advertising, but sending out incentives or invitations to be involved will be much more effective.

Initially advertisers will bid on keywords on a cost-per-thousand basis, however the pricing model may change as the performance metric of resonance is taken into account. Although it is not clear how exactly this would be implemented, it likely would involve some sort of pay-per-link-click and per-re-tweet.

Since Twitter is only allowing one sponsored tweet per results page, this could mean steep bidding wars among competitive markets and keywords.

This is just the first phase of the Promoted Tweets platforms and it will be slowly rolled out over the next year and will eventually include twitter clients, and possibly syndicating promoted tweets to appear on other search engines, such as Google or Bing.

Twitter Extensions

Twitter also announced this week that they are releasing their own official BlackBerry app, as well as an upcoming Android app. No official word on an iPhoneâ„¢ app, but it is likely that we’ll see one of those soon since they just bought Tweetie, a popular paid Twitter app on the iPhone. Twitter is also coming out with better options for desktop users as well.

Twitter is also allegedly looking at its own URL shortener and some other small additions. The only thing that seems to be safe for the time being is Analytics, which Twitter says it is not interested in pursuing at this time.

For those that have built their business around the open Twitter service, this may be troubling news.  However, many of those companies are still expected to survive and do well since they have managed to integrate themselves very well into the Twitter community, or expand outside of it.

Twitter applications still have a lot of life left in them, especially as they are able to adapt and evolve just as Facebook applications have. We have seen Twitter integrated into many different kinds of apps and desktop applications, and with Twitter’s open API, there will always be custom development opportunities.

Other Twitter News

This week the Library of Congress announced that it will also be archiving all tweets going back to 2006.  Details are still sparse, but according to their blog, they expect to see scholarly and research implications from the acquisition.

Google also announced their own Twitter archive that allows searchers to replay tweets chronologically for different subjects by date, and search tweet volumes during specific time periods. Although this appears to still be in Google Labs at the moment and archives are only accessible back to February of this year, Google promises to have it fully operational soon.

These both provide great opportunities to research how opinions were directly influenced by events, which could be constructed to be very useful to advertisers and marketers as they can begin to track the amount of interest generated by different campaigns and at different times.
