The next time you need to create a landing page, why not make it a video landing page? They are easy to do if you do them right. Here are 3 things every video landing page needs.

1. Who are you? – Introduce yourself, and do it with a smile. If you aren’t personable people aren’t going to buy from you. If you are trying to sell your name as the actual brand, you might think about putting your name in text on the screen.

2. State a problem, then give the solution – In the video, mention one problem that viewers might have. You should base this problem around a keyword that you researched earlier. Say for example your keywords were “list building”. You could say something like this:

As different from this, in Internet marketing, all forms of ads are managed through the same medium of Internet.

There are pop-up ads, which open in a new browser window when a web site is opened, and there are also pop-under ads, which open underneath the window that is being used. Then there are banner ads displayed on the side or above a web page that has got good contents. Besides these, those doing Internet marketing use social media networking, blogging, email, pay per click ads, and audio recordings and video recordings to spread the awareness of their goods.

Besides the facility of using the same medium for all types of advertising, tracing results is also faster in Internet marketing. Since software is getting more and more sophisticated, analyzing the available data is done instantly, enabling the marketer to be up-to-date on market trends. In the same way, because of the facility of instant data analysis, it is easy for those doing Internet marketing to find out how well their marketing campaigns are working and which of the advertising methods are working better. With offline advertising, gathering data, and data analysis, takes much more time so that the continuity of advertising is often lost.

Making corrections is also easier and faster in the Internet marketing world. Editing text or adding or deleting graphics in an ad, based on customer feedback, is easily done in Internet marketing. Target marketing also works better here. While marketing offline, target marketing is more centered on geographic locations whereas with Internet marketing, identifying and accessing target markets based on race, ethnicity, socio-economic conditions, age, hobby, profession, gender etc. is easier.

In Internet marketing conversion is also faster. A customer, who needs a product or a service, can make an offer or an appointment pretty fast, with the click of a mouse. With offline marketing, customers have to go a more convoluted way of getting the address, making a phone call, and then making enquiries. In other words, with Internet marketing, reaching out to people, getting feedback, and clinching the deal are perpetually on a fast forward mode.

From the very beginning of the Internet, the number one challenge which all of us have faced is how to attract qualified visitors to our websites. Throughout the boom years, one of the most popular solutions was to get massive funding, relatively easy to get in those days, and “buy” traffic, by various means.

As an iconoclastic young developer, with ambitions of beating the “big boys” at their own game, more time than money or the connections to get it, I sought a less capital intensive methodology to achieve the same results. Years of study and rapt attention to the pertinent forums, trying everything that even seemed to make sense (making many mistakes along the way, and learning much from each one), then carefully monitoring the results, has lead to many highly workable tools in our SEO bag of tricks. The outcome of these trial and error methods, (lots of both) lays the foundation of our SEO services and the basis for the ongoing growth of traffic to your website and ours.

The simple fact of the matter is this: Expertise in any other form of writing in no way qualifies one for the type of writing required to optimize a website for the Internet. There are many sites which have less than correct punctuation, grammar, and even spelling which rank #1 in their optimized search phrases. This is not to say that I don’t think these things are important, only that to be found in the search engines, they are not the most important consideration.

The flip side of this argument is equally true. Just because someone knows all the ins and outs of all of the search engines, can write algorithms in their sleep, has lunches with Dr. Eric Schmidt and is on a first name basis with Larry Page and Sergey Brin, does not, in any way, make them a writer. All of the writing on this site was done as a collaborative venture between Susan K. Thompson, a professional writer with strong academic credentials and real world experience, in both business and marketing, and myself. Was there a lot of editing and re-write? Yes. Were there disagreements? You bet! Was it worth it? Look at the record.

Emerald Coast Entrepreneur was launched on May 1, 2005 with most site optimization in place and submission to the directories just beginning. With a total monetary investment of less than 0.00, and a time investment, I’d rather not think about, but which approached 300 hours, the site was given a PR5 ranking by Google on its first update, less than 2 months after our launch.

Studies show that over 90% of all online users use search engines to find what they are looking for, whether products/services, or just plain old information.

The following twelve points will, I hope, summarize a philosophy, approach and methodology to the SEO question which is both sound and effective, along with giving some helpful insight into the industry itself.

1. Content. Content. Content.
Effective, professional, optimized Copywriting is the single, most important factor in any SEO campaign. Search engines index websites based on the content found on each page of the site. With a thorough understanding of the language and grammatical conventions combined with intensive research, to find and exploit the market focus, one can move a website to the upper echelon of the “SERP’s” (Search Engine Results Page) in a methodical as well as ethical manner.

2. Analyze Web Logs.
Measure everything, at least twice, and then check again. While I would be the first to say that many of the procedures that make up website optimization are more art than science, one needs to take a very scientific approach to the results of the effort. This is done by methodically keeping a record of, and making an analysis of the sites web logs. There are a number of specialized software which make the job easier but at the bare minimum, one needs to keep a close eye on the site visitors and their activity while on the site. No matter how well planned the strategy, it is largely theoretical until proven by the results, which can only be measured by the logs, and a thorough analysis of their content.

3. No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google, or any other search engine.
Those who promise such feats will either optimize for such vague search term phrases (such as, “green stunted widgets with purple Polka-dots and icing”) that no one will ever likely look for, or they are making a false claim, which they have no intention of keeping, or they have an inside edge at Google, something which they will lose, quickly, when the honest folks at Google find out about it. The other option, that they will take the money and run, is worth mentioning here but I’ll be polite.

4. Some things are just plain silly.
You don’t need to submit your site to 50,000 search engines. Businesses which offer this service are suspect, at best. 85% of the search results on the Internet come from one search engine, which, if you have one link from an established website, or better yet, a directory, will find your site just fine, on its own. Four (4) search engines account for over 90% of the traffic on the web. As for any supposed benefit which may accrue from being listed in an obscure search engine in Botswana which specializes in safaris to the Kalahari Desert and receives 7 hits per day; well, you figure it out.

5. SEO is not Pay-per-Click.
While no one would argue the effectiveness of getting increased traffic and sales, through a well planned, pay-per-click campaign, the fact remains that the conversion rates are generally low and they cease the moment the “pay” stops. With a well planned and executed SEO campaign, while results may take a bit longer, they continue to produce, and in fact grow, long after the work is done and paid for. Quite often we have found that after a thorough optimization of a site, only minor adjustments are needed on an ongoing basis, primarily related to new content and/or new items of sale or service.

6. SEO is not witchcraft, Druidism, shamanism.
Neither does it require any special chants, ceremonial fires, or vestments, though some of us do like to howl at the full moon, on occasion. There are no “Top Secret” practices which a reputable SEO cannot tell a client, a judge, or his mother, for that matter. The very nature of the Internet has always been cooperative and there is nothing about SEO that can’t be learned, with a heavy dose of time and money. A reputable SEO firm will give you an item per item breakdown of just where the money goes. Be wary if you sense a secretive atmosphere or any unwillingness to answer questions. While there are technical points which might take some background to fully understand, if one has a solid overview of the entire situation, a simple explanation should be easy enough to come up with.

7. Do-it-yourself SEO.
Yes, you can execute your own SEO campaign and find a reputable SEO firm to help plan and organize it for you. About one half of my own clientele do some part of the actual work themselves, or have their in-house dedicated personnel do it, after discussion of the goals and aims of the business/website, a thorough website analysis, comprehensive search phrase research, and focused instruction on the ways and means of achieving high SERPs. These preliminaries are followed up with a detailed program of suggestions and methods which the client can then implement themselves or hire others to perform. Average savings; 30-40%.

8. Phased Implementation.
While many companies spend thousands of dollars per month on Search Engine Optimization, an alternative is available which will pay dividends to you in increased sales and leads without the high initial investment. The most important consideration is to have a reputable firm handle the initial evaluation and suggested optimization planning first. The trial and error method will cost much more, in the long run, with or without the desired result. After studying the plan and establishing a workable budget you may implement the plan as finances allow.

9. Remember the old saying, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”
Never was this more true than in the realm of SEO. While concrete and measurable gains will always come from a well thought out and executed optimization strategy, the Internet is a competitive media and we all want to be number one. Accept that a steady upward movement, over time, will place you worlds ahead of a flash followed by a crash.

10. A thought to ponder.
At stake, in the race for the top, is the very existence of your website, your business, and quite possibly your reputation. Beware of any “shortcuts” or less than ethical schemes that anyone might suggest to further your business goals. When it’s all said and done it is you, the business owner, who bears the responsibility for any company or individual you hire. Insist on knowing exactly what the strategy is and what steps are being performed to implement it. If it seems, in the least, suspicious, ask for and get an explanation. In this case, not only is Ignorance not bliss, it could very well be the beginning of the end for your business.

11. All incoming links are not created equal.
Both the relevance to your line of business and website subject matter and the PR value of the incoming link determine how valuable they are to your own PR ranking. With Google starting the trend, nothing new there, and most of the others following close behind, the days of grabbing all the inbound links, in any way possible, are gone. Not only will low ranked and/or irrelevant inbound links not help, they will, in fact, cause a penalty. Link farms, free-for-all link schemes, automated link accumulation software, or any other fad that doesn’t carefully screen the links and websites they are coming from will, in the long run, do more harm than good.

12. It’s more than just facts and figures.
The relationship between an online business and SEO is, perhaps, one of the closest of business relationships. In order to be effective, a SEO must know not only the facts and figures pertaining to the endeavor, but s/he must know something of the dreams and aspirations of the business principals. Things which don’t normally come out in a prospectus are often invaluable information when searching for the “right fit” into the complex world of the Internet. My own clients sometimes ask, due to the frequency of my calls and email in the early phases, “Am I your only client?” I usually laugh and say something to the effect that until I know your business almost as well as you do, yes, you are the only one that counts.

There are several web marketing options which you can use. The choice of the web marketing option depends on the need of your website.

Remember not to stop working on your website after the set up. If you stop working on it, the sales will also stop. Continually market your website for continuous sales.

Successful non profit websites aren’t that much different from any other successful website, but here are some important things to consider which ordinary website design might not.

Donations

Non profit websites should be the first place people visit to make donations. A website that makes it easy to donate is advantageous for new donors and convenient for existing ones, so your donations page should be clearly linked from your home page (with banners or buttons), shouldn’t require people to set up an account to give money, and should only ask for information required to process the transaction.

Publicity

Publicity and media attention is essential for raising your organisation’s profile and increasing donations. To make it easy for the media to find out information about your organisation, include profiles of important people such as founders, directors and key personnel. Alongside these profiles, provide a downloadable PDF or media kit so this information can be taken away and distributed amongst networks. It’s also a good idea to offer downloadable images and press-ready quotes on your site, and make it clear that media can use them without prior permission to promote your organisation.

Volunteering

Always dedicate a page on your site to volunteering. For those who are willing and able to help, a variety of contact methods (office phone, mobile phone, email) or simple contact form makes it easy for them to get involved. Including some information about volunteering in general before your contact details will make new volunteers value your site as a point of knowledge and not just somewhere to get in touch.

Purpose and Values

If it isn’t clear what your organisation is about by looking at your name, make sure the homepage of your website makes it clear who you are and what you do. Don’t take it for granted that visitors will already know what your organisation does, and don’t confuse them with cold, corporate jargon.

Content

Content is always the priority on non profit websites, as your visitor is more interested in what you have to say rather than how good your site looks. Whilst it doesn’t hurt to have an eye-catching, professional website, it should always take a back seat to your content. If you’re using multi-media elements such as photos and videos, consider restricting them to just one page such as a gallery or special multi-media section. Bear in mind that too much multi-media will result in slower load times, so make sure they always support what your organisation is about.

Brand-awareness

Although you aren’t selling anything, all your promotional materials should be consistent. Choosing the right logo and having it prominently placed on all your documents and pages is the key to building a recognisable image in your particular sector. You don’t need to make your digital and print designs the same, but ensure they have the same kind of feel.

News and Blogs

Providing a news section or blog gives people a reason to come back to your website. Making people invest some of their time in keeping up to date with your organisation’s activity can only result in increased awareness and increased donations. Constantly updating your news and blog also results in significant search engine visibility, and submitting your news and blog links to related websites can improve web traffic flow to your website aswell.

1. Don’t do too many submissions in directories.

While submitting your website to directories, be careful and don’t submit it to too many directories. In 2006 and 2007 Google has filtered many web directories manually to reduce the weigh on directories. Many of the directories out there today are not good and they are still operating as a link far. In real they are not going to deliver any real value to your website but it may harm your website as Google can see it as a bad neighbourhood.

Another reason for not to submit your website in too many directories is that Google can see this as a effect of SEO process and if they find out that you are trying to do optimization for your website Google might ban your website or de-index your website.

2.  Don’t make too many links from no follow back links

When webmaster put no follow on your link, then you really get link back but original website will not pass any real rank juice or authority to your website. So it’s equal to 0. Still you get a link but with no real value to your website. It might bring some traffic to your website but in terms of ranking or Google page rank increase it will not serve any value at all.

3. Don’t use same title and description while submitting in directory

When you submit your website to many directories, try to use different title and description every time. When you use same title and description, it will create duplicate content and when spider find that your website is linked from many website with same description and title it looks like automated submission. So even if you do manual submission it will result in automated submission and finally you will get your self banned from Google and other search engines.

4. Don’t use same anchor text in all link building.

When you start link building, plan your keywords carefully. And don’t do link building for only 1 keyword as it might create problem later on. Search engine have particular thrash hold for particular keyword or anchor limit. When your back link anchor text reach at that limit or cross that limit Google will remove your from top ranking and put you far behind in search result. So be careful and not to put too much weight on only one keyword.

5. Don’t link to a website which Google cache is older then 2 months

By saying this I mean, don’t link to such a website because Google spider is not coming on this website too often. As you can see that Google has got cache 2 months older that means this website is not updating regularly or there is no good contents or Google has banned this website. Or something is wrong with this website in eyes of search engine. So better not to link to these websites.

6.Don’t submit you press release or article to website which is banned by Google

After 2000 .com fall and when internet once again picked up, there were many websites came up for articles submissions and press release submissions. They claim that they will release your press release to many famous news and article directories and relevant users, but they failed to do so or they did it in such a way that they got banned by Google. Google has reduce weight on those websites so if you submit your PR or articles on these websites and if you get link back from those website Google will see you website as linking to cheap website or cheap resources and you might get hurt by Google spider.

7. Don’t use any automatic submission tools

There are many automatic submission tools available in market now a days. They claim that they are not going to hurt your website and they can dodge search engines and make a submission like a human being. But they forget that machine is machine and human is human. By dong automatic submission you might not get hurt initially and you might get away but when Google or other search engines find out about these automatic submission you might get your self banned. So avoid automatic submission tools and try to invest little bit of time everyday in building natural links. In that way you can make sure that your website will not get hurt.

8. Don’t try to get a link from website which is linking to too many website from different topics

Try to stay on your theme or topic. If you are trying to link to website which is linking to what ever site they came across, then you might get into trouble. As they are not trying to create useful resource for you. They are trying to increase link. So be careful while linking to other websites.

Find out whom they are linking to, what their PR is and how good they can be for your business and then link to them if they are going to deliver you any real value.

9. Don’t link to link farm

Link farm are just website which contain 1000 of useless links or doing too much reciprocal links or out going links and they don’t deliver any real value to anyone.  So be careful and try not to link to these link farms websites. If you get your self into these link farms, you might get your self out of Google index database and hurt your PR or ranking as well.

10. Don’t buy link from website who is just selling links.

Don’t buy links by paying money. Those people are just selling links to many people. If they loose their rank tomorrow then you will be loosing money and also there would be bad mark on your website as they are still linking to you. So avoid buying links from those people who are just selling links.

We all like things in life that are free! We wouldn’t be human if we didn’t, right?

Are you a Business or Company owner that provides a service to your local area or County? If so then there are a number of things you should be aware of which will help you increase your business profile and Company branding. There are some excellent marketing opportunities available through free listings with search engines such as the big traffic providers, Google, Yahoo and Bing. Internet searching has well and truly overtaken the local directories as the primary tool for searching local business information. Many of the main search engines have a local search listing opportunity and best of all most of them are totally free, yes free!!!

With thousands of listings that appear in the search engine results, how can business owners ensure they are going to be seen, let alone be found? My scenario, when I am looking for a local business in Weston-super-Mare or Somerset, I will not waste my time looking at pages of listings that show National search results as the vast majority would not be applicable, therefore businesses that serve a local area should be taking advantage of their geographical locations.

Local search is therefore very important and if used correctly can be extremely rewarding to any business owner. It’s free and therefore a win, win situation.

So what exactly is local search? Will it enhance your Business profile? Will it bring more customers and potential for more sales?

By entering your business services followed by your company postcode and location, within the Yahoo/Bing or Google search engine box, they will provide you with all of your local results for the business or service that you are requesting, usually in alphabetical order or by paid inclusion/advertising first. For example, if you wanted to find a web designer in Weston-super-Mare, you would simply type web design Weston super Mare. To further assist with search engine visibility, it is useful to incorporate your geographical phrase within your business or company website content page, so for this example, the phrase “web design in Weston Super Mare” contained several times in paragraphs or headings your content will help attract targeted search results. Making sure your content and paragraphs sound natural is the key to a successful web page that provides good quality content. As most search engines state, content is king.

A great way of maximising your search visibility and increase your website traffic is to incorporate articles and news releases to websites and Internet distribution sites, many local web design companies provide such services on request. An example would be to incorporate such headlines as “Local Web Design Company in Weston Super Mare announces expansion plans”.

How does this become relevant? The key to all of this is about keyword placement- local listings are often displayed within organic searches by most of the search engines, sometimes results are shown on the first pages of results. In the case of Google, the search term results are in the form of Google local Maps.

Google Local enables you to enter your company details in the form of description, address, your business opening hours, a business website address and probably one of the most important factors is your business category. If you want to be found for your particular geographical phrase e.g. web design in Weston super Mare, ensure you are listed here.
