Many people know that internet marketers make a lot of money. It is one of the best paying jobs in the world provided that you do it correctly.

Most of the elite multi-millionaire internet marketers out there would have begun their career as small time affiliate marketers. Just like any other job or business though, there are traps and pitfalls that can get in the way of your success.

So, to help you to avoid these obstacles and allow you to become a leading internet marketer I have listed the biggest and most common mistakes people make:

Quitting too soon:

Mark my words: internet marketing will ALWAYS work. If you have already quit, then you have quit too soon. It could take a few weeks to get started and it may even take a few months before you get your first commission but I can promise you that it will always work.

Gaining momentum at the start is always the hardest part. Once you get the ball rolling, things pick up very quickly and become a lot easier. However, you must not quit – you have to keep going until it works.

Even once you begin to earn a steady income you must not quit. The internet marketing landscape is constantly changing and you need to keep yourself up to date with the latest information tactics.

Not Writing Enough:

Another big mistake that people make is that they do not write enough. You need to write every single day if you are going to be a successful internet marketer. You can get someone else to write for you if you want but the simple fact is that you must submit articles to article directories on a regular basis.

Constantly providing fresh and valuable content means will be looked upon favourably by the search engines. You will also bring in more traffic and create valuable backlinks to your site.

Losing Focus:

This is the biggest mistake that internet marketers make. It is also the mistake that most of you will make. You will start with one niche (or strategy) then see another, lose focus and quickly jump over to the other niche without even seeing the first one through.

Experienced internet marketers work with many different niches or strategies and usually do so very successfully. However, they will have always started out by focusing exclusively on one niche and becoming successful in that niche BEFORE branching out to the others.

Always begin with one niche and stick with it until you know it inside out. Many bright new shiny opportunities will appear and distract you but you need to ignore them. Keep focused on the goal ahead and concentrate on monitoring, testing and tracking your progress until you become a success in your niche.

Many people start internet marketing because they want to get rich. If you choose to start you too can make astonishing amounts of money. However, please realise that it is not a walk in the park – internet marketing takes a lot of time, hard work, learning and application. You must treat your internet marketing business as a BUSINESS if you want to succeed.

Three Fail Proof Linking Strategies for Google SEO

In 2006, many SEO experts agreed that Google put about 60% of it’s emphasis of ranking any given web page on it’s links. In 2007 that number shot up to between 70% and 75%. Now, in the latter half of 2008 up to 85% of your Google ranking depends on how it’s linked. Or, more specifically, your success depends upon the quality and number of inbound links.

Google looks at everything from the “authority level” of the linked sites to their “PageRank” and even the IP class they use (Internet Protocol designation.) While we don’t have hours to get into every little detail, I have provided three simple surefire ways to get hundreds of top rate inbound links to any page or your site you wish. And this is the absolute fastest way to get on top of Google and stay there for the long haul. So, here we go…

Google SEO Linking Strategy One: Hire a blog reviewer.

Hiring a blogging pro is a fast way of getting the links you want. Here’s how it works… You are basically hiring a blog reviewer to chat up your Website. You set the tone of what is said and even give them acceptable working parameters to meet, such as the blog’s traffic rating, type of blog and overall popularity.

You can hire independent people from services like eLance.com, Guru.com or RentaCoder.com or you can use a service that specializes in blog reviewers for hire, like http://www.PayPerPost.com. Personally, I like PayPerPost because it’s their specialty and this is their “posties” livlihood, so they tend to do a great job. It’s extremely reliable and great for social networking but considerably slower and ultimately more expensive than the following methods if your goal is simply link building.

Google SEO Linking Strategy Two: Use article marketing focused on your site’s topic.

Offering free yet valuable content to the publishers, and ultimately readers, of blogs, newsletters and article directories is among the the fastest and most reliable ways to get high quality inbound links with minimal expense. But even more important to some is that if you share your expertise the right way, you will likely become a recognized expert in your field in no time.

People have filled entire books on the subject of article marketing so let me just hit the highlights here. This will be enough to get you started and help your name become trusted by both publishers and readers alike. Just remember these six simple guidelines…

1.) The article has to accomplish two things. First, it has to be 100% legitimate and not contain any inflated facts or sales pitches. And second it absolutely must present real value to the reader and the publisher. Don’t ever write an article just for your own sake. A solely self serving article will be immediately transparent to the publisher and to most readers. Most people understand you want something in return for sharing your knowledge and are very happy to oblige a mutually beneficial arrangement, such as a great article for a link back in your bio.

2.) Obey the rules of where you are submitting your work. This is extremely important! Don’t waste an editor or publisher’s time. Be sure to select the best, and most descriptive category possible for your submission.

3.) You can (and in my opinion, should) write in a casual, conversational style but be careful to spell check the article and review it for clarity before submitting it. Once you have written something, especially something with your name attached to it, it will be a representation of you.

4.) Make the article the appropriate length for what you have to say. Don’t drone on or cut it too short. Most article directories have guidelines about how long they like to see submissions. The same goes for newsletters. If you can’t find this info for the directory you like, sticking between 500 and 1,000 words is usually a safe bet and usually up to 1,250 is OK. If you have more to say, consider splitting it into multiple articles that deal with one specific topic each.

5.) Be brief in your bio section. If your article is well written and contains similar words to the keywords you want to be found for, 350 characters (or about 40 words) should be more than enough to tell a little about yourself, your services with one or two relevant keywords properly placed. Just be sure to use those keywords as anchor text when linking to the page that covers that keyword’s topic on your site. Many directories will let you have two links in the bio section and all allow at least one.

6.) And I saved the big one for last. Provide unique content to each article directory. No article or newsletter publisher wishes to have a bunch of duplicate content so carefully rephrase at least 30% to 35% of the article to make it unique. This will help both the publisher and the quality of your resulting inbound your links.

Big Tip: Writing dozens or even hundreds of article variations to eliminate duplicate content can take a great deal of time. Then manually submitting them to hundreds of directories takes even longer. A nice solution is using an article distribution service that allows you to enter slight variations to specific sections of your article and then combines them in unique ways to provide unique content for the search engines and readers. I am NOT talking about a system that creates robotic substitutions based on replacing similar words from a thesaurus. That produces junk. I’m talking about a system that allows you to submit your own text with alternate sentences or even whole paragraphs. This works amazingly well and can easily create over one thousand article variations based on about twenty extra minutes of your time when you submit your article. And of course, write as many variations of your bio as you can too.

They even review the article to ensure it is a good candidate for publication, which gives you advice from a professional editor for free. They do it to help protect their own reputation as well but the benefits to you are immeasurable.

Google SEO Linking Strategy Three: Use a three way linking system.

Google has discounted the use of straight reciprocal links to the point that many people feel they are not worth the time and effort to obtain. I still use them sparingly but I avoid reciprocal linking systems like the plague. Google hates them and they are so easy to detect that you might as well put a banner on your site saying “Hey Google, I use a link farm!”

Three way linking, however, is another story. Reciprocal linking is very easy to detect but 3 way links are altogether different. It works like this… Site 1 links to Site 2 and then Site 2 links to Site 3. And finally Site 3 links to Site 1, or even to another site in the chain. In short; every link is a true and verifiable one way inbound link.

If you are part of a group of similar sites, this is well worth doing. But if you need to build links quickly or don’t have the time to set this up yourself, you can use a service like 3 Way Linker (http://www.3WayLinker.com). It’s the ideal “set it and forget it” option and gives you full control over important aspects of linking.

Generating quality traffic to your website is probably the most difficult task for every online marketer. Without quality traffic, you won’t make any sales, and no sales means no profits, and profits are the reason we work on our computers every day (at least it’s the reason why I work on my computer everyday!).


You can get traffic by writing articles and submitting them to article directories. The directories allow you to add a resource box to each article, and in the resource box you place links to your website or blog. The very nature of article writing is viral; any webmaster can re-publish your article on their site as long as they keep your links intact.


If you write informative, easy to read articles, you will develop a following and your articles will be widely distributed across the web. You will get free inbound links, and you will get them indefinitely!


Another benefit to article writing is anchor text. Within your resource box, you should use anchor keywords for each link. Every time someone republishes your article, you will not only acquire free back links, but you will get a virtual vote for your website under the exact keyword phrase of your choice.


If you use “marketing advice” in your keywords, then the search engines will count those links as votes for your website in the search result. If someone performs a search for “marketing advice”, they will inevitably find your website because you have keyword-rich links pointing to your site.


Blog commenting is another popular form of getting traffic. Perform a search for blogs that relate to your website and then comment on the author’s posts. This is very simple and will accomplish two things for you: establish keywords for your website, and will draw direct traffic from the blog itself when readers read your comment and click on your link. Word of caution: spamming irrelevant comments will make people mad! Don’t do it. Make sure every comment you post is relevant to the blog and the author’s post.


Adwords is an effective but potentially expensive method of acquiring targeted traffic to your site. Before you setup an account with Google, make sure you find an online coupon. Usually you can find a coupon that offers free or 0 in clicks. Use it to open your account and then follow their online tutorial. You will be able to create text ads that will be displayed whenever someone enters a specific search phrase (you choose the phrases).


Adwords is an easy and direct method to getting highly targeted traffic, but it can be expensive as some keywords can cost anywhere from to per click. You really need to have an effective landing page that can successfully convert visitors before you start buying traffic from Adwords.


Another method that is used by only the savviest marketers is viral distribution through torrent sites. Here’s how you do it: make a PDF ebook that is loaded with free information about your topic. Inside the ebook make sure you provide direct links to your website and encourage readers to visit your site for even more free information. Then, upload the torrent.


The trick with torrent uploads is to use the right keywords in the title of your torrent. Search engines will place your torrent listing at the top of the search results, and you will gain immediate exposure from two sources: torrent users and people who don’t even know what a torrent is! Make sure you post your website address in the comments section of your torrent upload (this allows non-torrent users to find your site without having to learn how to use torrents).


Those are a few methods for getting traffic to your website. Remember, the ultimate goal online is to make money, and without targeted traffic, you won’t make a dime!

How to use custom 404 pages


You might be surprised to hear that 404 pages will probably be one of the most seen pages in your website! A 404 page is the page displayed if someone tries to reach a page on your website that does not exist. All web servers like Apache and IIS have a default 404 page that is displayed to people. Actually 404 pages are just simple HTML pages, you can change the default 404 page to a page that displays anything you want. So instead of the common ‘this page does not exist’ message that tells your visitors nothing, you can put up an informative page that will help them find what they are looking for. A good idea is to take your site-map page, and make it the 404 page for your website. Another idea would be to make your 404 page a search page where people could search your site. And how do you tell the web server, where your new customized 404 page is sitting? This is something you have to ask your host do for you. Just ask them about allowing you to do this, and they should be able to make the quick change to their servers.


Tip one:


Use contain files for repeating content

As you may already know there are lots of repeated content in a website. Things like page headers, page footers and navigation menus come to mind. Include files are separate pages of HTML code that contain things like the ones I just mentioned; things that are intended to be used on many different pages; you should use contain file for all this repeated stuff. Main purpose behind using contain files is to save lot of time.


For example: if say you have the same menu on 30 different web pages, include files will allow you to keep all your menus up to date on all your web pages easily since to update all your pages, all you have to do is update the one include file rather than all the 30 pages individually. There are many different technologies you can use to ‘contain’ things this way; the most common are listed here:


Alternative: 1. Server side includes using either: PHP, ASP, JSP etc …


Alternative: 2. Using client-side includes tools like found in Dreamweaver.


To include a file with PHP all you need to do is insert this code in your PHP pages:


Here all you have to do is name the file that you want to ‘contain’ in your page. So in the above example the page we want to include is called ‘mainMenu.php’.


In ASP, it is very similar:


Here, the included file is in a folder called ‘contained’ and the file being included is called ‘header.asp’


Tip two:


having a site map for every web site

Both search engines and actual live visitors use site maps. They are almost essential for just about any website because they provide an easy to use macro view of your website. In a nutshell, a site map is essentially a categorized page of links to all your websites’ pages. Many users will just go to a sitemap to find what they are looking for, while search engines will ‘creep’ to your sitemap page to index your site and that is another nice If you are interested in SEO a site map is one of the key additions to your websites. It will not only help finding them your web pages but also increase your ‘hits’.


Tip three:


Having a steady footer It may seem a very small thing but Page footers are not less important. We had them in books forever. So it only makes sense to present people something they are familiar with. But in the case of the web, you can provide a lot more useful information in the page footer. It will make your website more user-friendly. Some ideas include: your contact information: email address, your phone number et cetera. Another good idea is to have a text-only navigation menu in your footer. Nothing fancy, just a series of text links that can get people to the major sections of your website. Sounds simple? Of course but it is very helpful when you make your website more dependable and friendly.

Every business owner with a website has some particular goal for visitors. It can be as simple as signing up for a newsletter or as complicated as completing a large purchase.

Whatever the conversion goal is for your website, there are three basic strategies you should follow.

Strategy #1: Find Out What Your Visitors Want
As a business owner, it can be easy to convince yourself you know what your customer wants. But that assumption can prove false many times over.

The only way to really find out your customers wants and needs is to simply ask them. If you already have an electronic newsletter, then send out a link to an external survey in your next issue. Ask questions that will help uncover the need for your product or service idea, and be sure to offer an incentive for your customers and prospects to complete the survey.

If you don’t have the ability to create online surveys within your website, than try a 3rd party service like Survey Monkey.

Another great way to uncover potential demand for a product or service is to see how many people are searching for that particular topic. This involves investing in a good keyword research tool. Yes, there are free keyword tools out there, but if you own a business and are serious about utilizing Internet marketing, than you really must subscribe to a good keyword research tool. I recommend wither Wordtracker, Keyword Discovery or Wordze.

Researching keywords will allow you to identify high demand keywords with low competition, giving you the ability to rank high for these keywords in the major search engines. Without knowing the best keywords to target, you will have to rely on luck to carry the day. And you may have already heard, luck has a peculiar habit of favoring those who don’t depend on it!

Strategy  #2: Create a Compelling Landing Page
Your product can be a hard good, a service or a downloadable report. Whatever it is, you need to find a way to convey the benefits of this item in a direct and simple way. I recommend you create a focused landing page for each of your products or services.

An effective landing page:

- Concentrates on a single compelling message
- Has a clear call-to-action
- Captures contact information
- Avoids distractions
- Contains bonus offers
- Contains testimonials

Today, it is quite common to see landing pages existing by themselves with no real content-based website wrapped around them. This strategy forces you to rely heavily on pay-per-click to drive traffic to the landing page. I recommend you leverage your own free organic traffic and only use pay-per-click as a supplement, if at all.

Strategy #3: Test Your Landing Page
How do you determine the best price for your product? How do you decide the best photos and images to use in order to increase conversion rates? What’s the best headline to grab your visitor’s attention?

The answer is – I have no idea. But there’s one way to find out – test, test and test again!

The easiest way to test multiple parameters within your landing page is to use the Google Website Optimizer. This free service allows you to perform A/B split testing. An A/B split test allows you to test one page parameter against another in order to determine which yields a higher conversion rate.

For example, suppose you’re unsure about how to price your product. One way to zero in on a price that yields the greatest profits is to test. To test three different pricing levels, you would simply upload three versions of your landing page. Each page would contain a price you wish to test. The Google Website Optimizer would then randomly serve up one of the three landing pages to each unique visitor on your site. These pages would be served evenly and conversion measurements calculated for each one. At the end of the testing session, you would get a summary of conversion results to determine which pricing structure brought in the highest profits.

The Google Website Optimizer is free and one of the most powerful tools you can have in your marketing arsenal.  Use it to test headlines, pictures, captions, bonus offers and anything else that affects conversions.

Taken together, these three tips will help maximize your website landing page conversion rates.

Starting a new business or taking your existing business online can be a costly venture and one of the biggest costs most often comes from web design. Affordable web design is a must when you have a limited budget, but you don’t want to sacrifice quality in order to pay an inexpensive price! When it comes to low cost web design, there are three different avenues you can take: do it yourself using your web hosting service’s built-in site builder or by taking web design classes, outsource it by finding a designer on freelance bidding sites, or utilizing an affordable web design service online. 
Do-It-Yourself Affordable Web Design
This option is a good one if you have the skills you need to implement every application and function you will need for your website. If you are reading this article, it is assumed that you are not a professional web designer. You can gain the skills you need to design your own website by taking a college course in web design. These courses offer the latest in programming languages, including graphic design, CSS and FLASH. 
For those who just need a simple web page without any extra “oomph”, a site builder provided by a hosting service will do just fine. While most of these applications are easy to use, some of them can be more complicated. If you are planning to use a site builder, be sure to get a preview of each hosting service’s application before paying for the hosting. Not every site builder is made the same. 
Outsourcing for Affordable Web Design
There are several freelance bidding sites available for posting projects. The upside is that multiple designers will compete for the chance to design your website. There are some really good web designers on the freelance bidding sites, but the trick is in finding them. The best web developers will not charge the lowest price. When you see a bid for 0 for your 50 page website, you may be tempted to jump on it. Keep in mind that when someone does something TOO cheaply, the job is usually cheap, as well.

* Be sure to check every review for the service providers in which you are interested. 
* Insist on samples. Designers should be able to point to a page they have created on the web, even if it is just their own website. In order to be sure the provider actually did create a website (besides their own); use the contact page on the site to request a reference. 
* Don’t choose a web designer based on the absolute cheapest price.
* Don’t choose a web designer based on an extremely fast deadline quote. If a developer claims they can have your website designed, up, and ready for business in a few days even though your site requires several implementations and pages, they will either be much later than they claim, or you will not be happy with the results. Good website design takes a reasonable amount of time.

When you choose an online professional, you can see all the services they have to offer on their own website. The best web design company will offer you low cost web design without sacrificing quality. Good designers know that clients can make or break them and will do everything they can to make you happy. While most real estate companies understand the significance of the web, few are implementing sophisticated traffic generation and website conversion programs. The common flaw in most approaches is the failure to treat traffic efforts and website architecture and design as part of one integrated process. Today’s consumer expects instant and relevant information, and that immediacy and relevancy are at the heart of Google’s success. An effective web program is one that will pick up on the conversation that Google started, extend it into its own website and provide an equally relevant customer experience.

Below are three areas to focus on to facilitate this process:

1) Use Pay-Per-Click Advertising

a) Make ads relevant to the search terms.  The first line of your advertisement should be similar to the actual search term instead of being a brand name.  For example, if someone searches for homes for sale in St. Petersburg, FL, the first line of your ad should be “Homes for sale in St. Petersburg, FL” not the name of your real estate company.

b) Qualify the people who click on your ads. To increase the number of clicks that turn into sales, make it clear in the second line of your advertisement what your website is about. So, under “Homes for sale in Florida,” make a note that this is for a real estate company focusing on selling homes in the area. Therefore, people who are clicking on the ad are doing so because they want to buy a home in St. Petersburg,  not because they want to rent a beach house in Miami.

c) This idea ties into your Quality Score. Google will assign you a score based on how successful your website is. The more people that bounce back from your website after clicking on your ad, the lower your score is.  Keep this high by making it clear what your website is before people click. A high Quality Score will also help to keep the amount you pay-per-click low.

d) Don’t always bid on expensive, commonly searched keywords. A better idea is to bid on the less expensive, more obscure terms.  This way, you can collect a long list of obscure keywords for the same amount of money as a very short list of common terms . People do still search for these keywords and you end up paying less per click then for the more commonly searched ones.

2) Have a Targeted Website

a) Marketing success does not stop at the search engine. Once you get a potential customer to click on your ad, you have to continue that conversation on a successful website.

b) Websites should not be passive brochures that expect the customer to sift through all the pages and data for the information they want. Rather, a website should be an active, intelligent salesperson that figures out who a person is and then gives them the most relevant sales pitch. A car salesman wouldn’t take a look at a family with 5 kids wearing soccer equipment and say “Hi, we have sports cars, coupes, sedans, wagons, minivans, and SUVs.” Instead, they would immediately walk over to the minivan section and show the options there.

c) The website that appears after someone clicks on an ad must be directly relevant to the search terms. You need to build a website capable of showing that potential client exactly what they are looking for. A successful website is not one that is general and has some relativity to the search terms. Instead, it is specifically targeted to continue the conversation started in the search engine.

3) Use Google Analytics Tools

a) After putting the first two techniques into motion, you have to monitor what is happening on your website.

b) Use Google Analytics to analyze your traffic and assess the success of your website. DON’T walk away after completing the first two steps.

c) Google Analytics gives you the opportunity for continuous refinement of your marketing campaign to ensure quality of prospects as well as cost efficiency in your marketing budget.

To sum it all up, the web has a lot to offer in terms of marketing, but it has to be done correctly. Understand how to combine a Google search and a great website into one marketing program, and your campaign is a guaranteed success. Your customers are out there now and they are looking for you.

Well now you know what makes a good link, so let’s go over the methods available for getting links to your site that you have been instructed to promote. There are many, and each comes with its own positive and negative attributes. Generally speaking, the more links you get to the sites you are promoting, and the higher the quality of the links, the more benefit to you.

[] Homepage/Subpage Links: A link featured on a website: The best way of getting this type of link is email submission. It is extremely hard to get a website to give you a link without getting something in return….such as money or a reciprocal or three-way link.

[] Articles: This option is only available to Advanced linkbuilders. It is basically writing a “fresh” chunk of content on a topic that relates to the site you are trying to promote. The article is between 250-500 words long and is submitted to 1 or more article syndicated websites

[] Link Directories: This type of link is obtained by searching for a relevant “link directory” browsing the topics and submitting the link of the site you are promoting for approval. This typically takes 3 days to 3 months to actually get the link accepted and displayed. It is also one of the easiest types of link building. You don’t get any points if your submission is rejected, so power of numbers is the way to make sure you make money. The point system is outlined below.

[] Forums: Find a forum related to the topic of the website you are promoting. Sign up and edit your signature in your profile. Edit it to any of the sites you wish to promote. (You can put up to 4 links in your signature) Now you go back to the forum and post a question or answer some one else’s question. When you post your signature will create a link. You can also place a link directly in your context.

Things to remember: Not every site will give you a link, often sites are a waste of time, it will take some time and experience to become efficient, but it is important to remember that the power of numbers is on your side.

Lets set up an example:

You are given a list of 10 websites to promote: You are given a list of everything you need except page urls. You should now go visit each of the websites you were instructed to promote and gather 20 deep-page urls and start a list for yourself. Beside each url you should come up with around 5 anchor texts or titles to use. This shouldn’t take you more than a hour. Now you have a list of 200 pages you need to link to, and enough anchor texts to link to each page 5 times. So basically you have 10 000 links. This is more than enough to get you started. You now break up each group of urls into sites and than further group them into general categories. So for instance you had a hair removal site, a acne site, a air purifier site and a cancer site, you could group those into a Health Category. Once you have all of this laid out you can start. Use the keywords given for each site to search all three search engines to find either forums, link directories and blogs. By putting the word “directory” or “blog” or “forum” beside the keyword when you search it will help you find the right type of sites. Start now by manually browsing through each site, one by one, and quickly decide if you can submit a link for free, if you can comment for free or if you can sign up and post for free. Check to see if the sites have any features that might result in a negative point by linking on them. Check to see if it is even possible to have a link on the site…as Some sites wont accept free submission, they might not allow comments, or they might not allow links in your forum posts. Every site you determine to be a potential – copy the url down into a text and move on. This is call the initial reviewing process. You want to review a few hundred sites at least…and Before you stop you want at least 50 potential sites you can add a link to for each main “category” that you grouped your sites into earlier. This will probably take a few days. especially if you follow the figures correctly. So after probably 25 hours of work you should have 10 000 links ready to be “builded to” and around 250-500 “potential” sites. You will be provided with a rough draft list of potential websites to build on.

Now start submitting your links to appropriate categories, start signing up on forums, and keeping track of every place you submitted to, what you submitted to it, and any other helpful info. Keep track of the type of forums and topics they discuss. Keep track of high page rank sites, or sites that accept free link submissions very fast. basically organize yourself so that you are most efficient. By time you have visited and submitted a link and posted some posts on all 250-500 “potential” sites you found…you Should have at least 75 backlinks…if Not 250…depending On how well you did your initial review. Whats even better….you Have a list of 75 or 250 sites that accepted your link submission or allowed you to place a link on there site or in your comments.
