Buy Links or Buy Trouble?

Edit Article |

Taking a closer look at what Google’’s official stance is, you”ll find that Google doesn”t condemn outright companies who sell or buy links. In fact, they state on their website that, “Buying and selling links is a normal part of the economy of the web when done for advertising purposes, and not for manipulation of search results.” And here is where Google’’s new campaign runs into trouble. How does one decide what links are for “advertising purposes” vs. “manipulation of search results?”

It is inherent that any article, review or informational posting a company has on their website will have words and phrases that will register in search results. The information wouldn”t be relevant to the reader if it weren”t also relevant in searches, and vice-versa. The same can be said for articles and reviews that are on other sites but link back to a particular company’’s own website. The dilemma for Google is that there is really no way of knowing when and if a link was paid for.

The fact is that the Google algorithm can”t distinguish between a paid link and an equity link. Consultants often provide links to companies they are doing or have done work for. Authors link to bookstores carrying their latest work, and software firms link to client companies. These aren”t paid links, but they sure do increase the rankings for sites that, quite frankly, improve the bottom line for them personally.

The next blog you visit may have a few relevant articles on great ways to raise an all-natural garden. If the blog is associated with a site that sells all-natural fertilizers and pesticides, it’’s only natural that these articles will provide needed and valued information. If these sites link to other sites that have books about natural gardening, how can Google determine whether these are paid links or natural?

The simple answer is, it isn”t possible. These links could be because the writer of the articles actually uses and endorses the products mentioned in the links or the book publisher and the gardening supplies house have a reciprocal agreement. Other reasons could be because the book publisher paid for a link, the owner of the publishing house received a free load of fertilizer to try out (in hopes of being mentioned in a future book); he liked it; he thanked them with a link, or even the gardening supplies company is owned by a man whose sister is a sales associate for the book publisher.

But the results are the same. The links are relevant, regardless of whether they were paid for in cash, as a favor, in trade or in sweat equity. It’’s this vary blurring of the lines that makes it so practical and helpful to buy links. The more relevant information you provide to consumers, the more valuable you become. If a link is relevant, helpful and trustworthy, it should and will increase the ranking of the site it’’s on.

Google has asked that Internet users report sites that have paid links. It’’s a laughable suggestion. How does anyone else on the Internet know whether you have paid for a link or not? They can”t. And this is why, although some people may temporarily “go underground” with purchased links, the practice isn”t going to stop. It’’s a good thing, because these links increase competition and encourage growth and change, two very important aspects of a dynamic marketplace. Whether you buy a link or receive it unsolicited, it’’s going to be useful and relevant. If it weren”t, the link wouldn”t show up in Google’’s algorithm anyway.

Finally, Google suggests that those who buy links are “buying page rank.” Page rank isn”t for sale, particularly since it is owned by Google. The algorithm removes or penalizes non-relevant information in search results. If the information is relevant, it will improve rankings. To that end, it doesn”t matter at all whether that link was paid for in cash or trade.

PAID LINKS COULD LEAD TO GRAVE TROUBLE

Although paid links are well sought after to advertise and market your website, it is not as good as it seems. Paid links are used to get more traffic to a website by paying for the listing. There are some big websites which let you put your link on their page to get more traffic and better page ranking in the Search Engines. These paid links have become important means for internet marketing. Many new internet marketing clients don’t know the intricacies of the paid links and they get themselves entrapped into deep trouble. Websites that take money to put up such links just remove these links when encountered by a legal hassle and ultimately it is you – the paid link seeker, who loses business as well as money. Pay per click may sound a good way of getting more business but you should be aware that Google doesn’t like or encourage paid links. Many a times, it has been found that websites that have paid links are totally ignored by Google, from its page ranking. This is being done to keep intact the quality and reliability of a product search.

Google dislikes paid links

Google is against any type of paid links as the paid links may not have the quality that is important to be ranked by Google. Link based analysis is one of the best ways of gauging the reputation of a website. The websites link the other websites when they find that the particular website provides some useful and trustworthy information required by their own website. Thus, this increases the reputation of the second website and this also improves its Page Rank. But some unscrupulous webmasters and SEO sell and buy links without checking their quality and content. This causes a sub-standard link to get more traffic than a better website. Google is against this practice so as to keep up the high quality of a google search. They might also slap a penalty for paid links, unless it is mentioned clearly that it is a paid link. Google can remove the website from their Search Engine listing if they think that some websites have violated their webmaster’s guidelines.

Protect your website

You can avoid getting into trouble with Google and protect your website from being removed from its Search Engine listing by following all the guidelines of its webmaster. More over, you should be very careful about the links that are placed on your website.

•  If you accept paid links to your website, then make sure that you include the “no follow” attribute so that it clearly tell the visitors that it is a paid link and you are not responsible for its quality.

•  Try to get those links which have good quality and are devoid of any wrong intentions. Try to get more good links to your website to improve the quality.

•  The links pointing to your website must be from reputed websites and they should be related to your keyword. This will get you higher ranking in the Google Page Rank.

•  Never join automated link pools as they mainly deal with fraudulent websites and you may get into trouble. Don’t get into the paid links as it will in the long run be more of a trouble than help.

It is not a surprise that the internet reached out to 50 million people in 4 years. But it is quite amazing that FaceBook took just less than nine months to add over 50 million users.

Trouble free Ways to Keep a Website Contemporary

Trouble free Ways to Keep a Website Contemporary

Just possessing a website and leaving it without any maintenance or addition of new content makes it boring and low on search engine ranking results. In order to keep your website looking attractive and fresh certain details have to be taken care of on regular basis. Addition of latest news on your site makes it communicative in nature to the customers and keeps them informed about latest happenings in your company.

It creates the impression that the site is maintained properly informing visitors about latest news which in turn builds up trust and positive attitude. You can add information regarding any topic maybe your company’s achievements, launch of new products/services/promotional offers, tips, awards, etc. News plays important role in raising the sales, as before you have posted news about your product/service many potential customers did not knew about it. In news write-up, link the target keywords to the relevant web pages, so that readers can easily land on the other web pages easily. This is good from SEO point of view also, when you get more links – volume of traffic also increases.

Keep the testimonials section up-to-date, whenever you receive any new positive feedback from your customer, add it to your testimonial section. It can be short or lengthy, whatever size, the customer opinion is, and it holds much significance. Potential customers would always prefer to read your present clients’ views and experiences before making any decision. It helps in procuring trust of people and also increases sales level.

Placing monthly or seasonal promotional offers or discounts leaves an impression that your website is updated regularly and adds something new to create interest in the customers. For instance- Monsoon sale, December end offers, etc type promotional offers can be posted online. But remember to remove them from your site when the time period of its validity is over. Such seasonal or monthly offers makes your customers think that if they want to avail the offers which are available only for a limited time period, they have to act fast. During the special offer time you can even alter your logo slightly or add any new graphics to create interest and appeal. For this help of a website designer can be taken.

Blogging is dynamic like the news section, here there is scope of communication between you and your customers. Visitors can post their feedback and comments online. You can even post in informative or interesting articles. Update this section regularly to create a personality of your online business among the net users.

Trouble with Twitter: Are You Making These Twitter Mistakes?

Twitter might be Godsend to some, but it does not hold all the answers. Yes, micro blogging can be very addicting and fun, but that is precisely the trouble with Twitter. I’m sure a lot of teachers, parents, employers and maybe even spouses around the world agree with me on this one. Twitter is known as the SMS of the Internet due to the limited amount of characters you can send to an exclusive group of followers. Still, that does not diminish the appeal of this social media one bit. Here are some issues about Twitter to watch out for.Trouble # 1 with Twitter: It’s virtually irresistible. Many Twitter users admit that checking their Twitter account is one of the first things they’ll check when they turn their computer on. While this does not exactly pose a problem when you’re at home, it is a different matter when you’re at work. Some companies have actually restricted Twitter sites on their employees’ computers because it hinders workflow. Instead of composing filing documents into their respective folders, employees are twittering on their computers – maybe even twittering that they’re filing documents and then forgetting about actually doing it all together. There’s nothing wrong with using Twitter. Just keep it in moderation, and not when you have a list of other more important tasks to attend to. Trouble # 2 with Twitter: It’s a poor replacement.Twitter also has a nasty habit of taking over meaningful conversations and reducing them to 140 characters. Sure, it’s instant messaging in an attractive package, but Twittering thank you messages to the friends who attended your wedding is not the same as sending them thank you cards. In fact, it’s almost an insult to use Twitter to deal with such personal expressions of gratitude. Sending Twitter messages to dear friends can be fun, but don’t use it to take care of personalized special messages. Trouble # 3 with Twitter: It cannot promote your business single-handedly.More and more people are using Twitter these days, but that doesn’t mean you can rely on it to single-handedly market and advertise your business for you. While Twitter marketing can be effective for your business, it cannot stand alone.  It needs the support of other means of marketing and advertising. According to CEO of Zappos.com Tony Hsieh (via Copy Blogger), they do find Twitter an advantage to their business but they don’t necessarily use it for “driving immediate sales.” Twitter helps spread the word around through followers – and can be extremely profitable as a marketing tool – but it should not be the sole backbone of your business. The trouble with Twitter is that it is sometimes being used in unproductive ways. But as long as you know its limitations and proper usage, you can achieve amazingly profitable and productive results with Twitter.
