Twitter’s DOS Attack (And Why Social Media Sucks)

Recently, Twitter was hammered by a DOS (denial of service) attack. I have no idea what that means, other than it’s some kind of server attack that’ll make your site go down.

Tweet Your Way To Success!

Tweet Your Way To Success!

Whether you’re an entrepreneur or an employee, chances are you already know about the storm created by Twitter. You’ve heard how helpful it proves when building your business’s brand online. Twitter helps you remain virtually connected to your peers and customers 24/7X365, the Tweets and ReTweets help your company’s search engine optimization efforts, it announces your presence et al. And you’ve even created a Twitter account. Now you’re probably wondering how to make an impact in 140 characters or less. Here are a few tips that can help.

1. Managing your online reputation—the first thing you need to do is learn to manage your online reputation. Word of mouth marketing and publicity is the strongest because your brand is being referred to potential customers by one of them. So, make sure they’re saying good things about your brand. One poor comment and your brand will soon be all over the place on the web taking a beating.

2. Fix the gaps—we spoke about ensuring that the good things said about your brand stay online. But that doesn’t mean you block all negative feedback. Pay attention to what your detractors are saying. Twitter not only allows you to know the major problem areas, but you have customers telling you very clearly what they want. It doesn’t get better than this!

3. Be yourself—Okay, we are not asking you to put down all your hopes, dreams and fears. But it would help if you write something about yourself that makes your followers feel you’re a real person, not just another automated Tweeting program. You can upload pictures, talk about stuff that’s important to you—even if they are not linked to your brand.

4. Don’t oversell—talking about your brand on Twitter is just fine, but yakking about it all the time is a definite no-no. While it may be true that you created a Twitter account to connect with your prospects, remember that it’s basically a networking tool, not a sales program.

5. Be direct—Twitter allows you to send direct messages. Use this feature rather than sending Tweets directed to one person publicly. By using the direct messaging system, the message you’re sending across is ‘You Care’ and so you took the time out to talk to that particular person. But take care not to spam their inbox. Regular updates are best sent through Tweets and not as direct messages.

6. Participate—be active in the Twitter community. Being active doesn’t only mean Tweeting; it means being actually involved in discussions. ReTweet what you find to be relevant or value adding, even if it doesn’t relate to your brand.

7. Personalize—your Twitter page can convey a lot about you. Personalize the theme, look and feel to reflect your brand. Otherwise you will seem like any other uninterested user, who opened an account so that they can sell.

8. Add value—add value to the Twitter community by providing useful information. You can help people who have questions in areas related to your expertise. That way you’ll build a strong relationship with your followers that will go beyond sales and marketing.

9. Use tools—there are many Twitter friendly tools available online that make Tweeting easy. On the go? Tweet using your phone. The URL you want to Tweet is too long? Shorten it with tinyurl.com.

10. Use other Social Networking Sites to build up your followers—try to connect to your Twitter followers on other social networking sites as well. This way, if someone is more active on FaceBook and LinkedIn rather than Twitter, you can create an impression there. Do you have a blog? Add a Twitter widget there so that visitors to your blog know what you are Tweeting about.

And lastly, don’t forget that consistency is the key to success on social media. Twitter is no different. Stay involved. Stay genuine and you’ll stay successful. Happy Tweeting!

Tweet To Grow Your Small Business

Tweet To Grow Your Small Business

We all know about social media sites and how they can help you to develop your small business. The hottest in the crowd is Twitter. This site has started playing around since 2006 and have gained immense popularity due to its microblogging and mobile blogging services. You can publish text messages with up to 140 characters instantly. Thus, there is no need to write a 400 words blog post or articles to let people know about your business. You can simply write a byline and share your business updates and announcements, links, opinion through Twitter. In fact, it is beyond networking and answering your client’s queries. Be it a heavy engineering firm or building and construction company, a proper tweet can earn you a number of followers.

You can start tweeting as soon as you have open an account. But before posting any comments, links, or business information, remember that in such social media platforms you are your brand. It is you through whom your followers will come to know about your business. Sharing content that are offensive or irrelevant will not only hamper your image but also ruin your company’s image. Like any other social networking sites, your post quality plays a great role on Twitter.

It is also advisable to share some personal information on Twitter. Most of the people go through similar experiences in life and people out there are always interested to know what the other did in a similar situation. It is also true about entrepreneurs. Other business owners too like to study about the various struggles that you have gone through as an entrepreneur. This makes you more likable as they can easily relate with you. So start wiring about your own experiences too.

In addition, get in-touch with new people on Twitter with similar interests. Look for relevant topics that you can tweet about. Also retweet information that you found interesting in your own network. When you retweet one’s post, chances are high that hsmall businesse/ she will also do the same for you. This will help you both to earn a little extra exposure.

Now that you know what to tweet, the question arises why should do it? There are several social media sites that provide similar services. Then why Twitter? Well, the answer is quite simple. Though you can use other social networking sites to post your business information, Twitter has outsmarted them with its metrics and tracking features.

It is very easy to track your data on Twitter. Apart from tracking your total numbers of followers, you can also track the number of times your follower’s post were shared as well as their number of replies. In addition, Twitter enables you to track certain complex calculations like the Twitter Quality Score. With this feature you can determine whether or not a particular account is worth following. You can even track your total number of sales as well as the number of times your account is mentioned on Twitter. The feature called “URL shortener” helps you to track whenever your content appears on the site.

Dominate Social Media with The Golden Tweet Ratio

Dominate Social Media with The Golden Tweet Ratio

Article “I have wished to know why the stars shine. And I have tried to apprehend the Pythagorean power by which numbers hold sway above the flux”. With these words the great British philosopher Bertrand Russell describes how the universe is controlled and can be expressed by mathematics. We know this to be true, in the universe, in nature and in all human endeavour and we hypothesised that this truth must also resonate within the World Wide Web and in particular social media, or as we like to call it; Cyber Social Cloud Computing”

“Originally what we wanted to create was a way of “on going” delivery of news and information to the users screen, while there’re still engaged in other social media conversations and activities. “To always be in the conversation”. With this in mind we called in the data analysts, the mathematicians and the “social media number crunchers”, we gave them a holy grail, “Is there a constant that exists in social media, amongst all the variables is there something that always remains the same?”

Using the combination of a 2400 year old mathematical concepts and the astronomical amount of statistical data generated by the billion users of Social media networks, we set to work, analyzing the data, looking for repetition of events, looking for patterns. After a while, after many wild goose chases, we found that in fact a constant did exist, we called it the “chatter constant” Tc . On it’s own the “Tc”, made no sense, it had to be placed in relation to the variables. So the Tc was the first component of an equation, and time after time, however we did the math this number remained the same. The other components were; the number of contacts, connections, friends or followers and the user interface i.e. (the screen itself).

The equation took shape over several weeks and we called it “The Golden Tweet Ratio” (G) A period of extensive beta testing in the later half of 2009 led to the redesign and fine tuning of “The Golden Tweet Ratio”, to accommodate for a wide variety of variables, across all existing and potential social media platforms. At this point we chose to concentrate on one social media portal, to test the equation, we decided to use Twitter. Let me say though that even though the equation was tested on the Twitter model, it’s not exclusively a twitter app, it can be applied across the board to any social media and networking niche, with any site, that utilises the micro-blogging or journal style layout.

What we found was that “The Golden Tweet Ratio” has the ability to calculate the exact number of posts required per hour, to allow internet marketers to carve an almost permanent niche in the screen real estate of their digital associates, friends followers etc. In effect it was an insight to what we call “perfect leverage”. “Perfect leverage” is a unique and rare phenomenon, the shrewd online marketer must strike a delicate balance between the clients or customers desires and needs and the exposure of their product or service, too much pushes the customers away. Too little and they will be poached by another competitor.

The Golden Tweet Ratio and it’s principles can be applied to any social media network, and it will work. Using it to achieve perfect leverage is a matter of delivering, relevant, up to date and interesting information to the end user. Social media users want a mix of news, entertainment, useful products that relate to their own interests and passions. Our results and The Golden Tweet Ratio, itself, are contained in a e-book which is now available for download from http://www.downloadablewealth.com/goldentweetratio.html We hope that a wide range of internet professionals will be able to use “the Ratio” as a pivotal part of their online activities.

Tweet And Sell!

Author admin    Category Twitter Marketing     Tags ,

Tweet And Sell!

If you’ve spent any time at all on Twitter – and let’s face it: these days, who hasn’t? -  it will come as no surprise that around 40% of tweets constitute little more than “pointless babble”. That at least is the view of Pear Analytics who, in their recent study, rated only 8.7% of tweets as having “pass-along value” – an essential tenet of viral marketing. Fortunately, a number of innovative marketers have begun showing the way – employing the latest ‘twittervations’ to turn tweets into traffic…

Google’s recent agreement to include tweets in its search results has, of course, given Twitter a huge fillip. But there are myriad other ways to harness the power of micro blogging in your business.

For instance, it’s ideal for tracking what people are saying about you, your competitors or your industry – allowing you to search relevant keywords at Twitter Search (http://search.twitter.com). Or to take advantage of purpose-built widgets such as TweetBeep which – like Google Alerts – send you regular emails containing discussions involving your chosen Twitter accounts or topics.

Twitter is a terrific primary research tool too; just send a link or question to your followers, and watch the feedback flow in.

Above all, used properly – for which read: innovatively – Twitter is a supremely effective vehicle for driving traffic to your website.

Witness the success of Amazon.com affiliate Twitterlit.com, which now runs twice-daily games challenging Tweeters to guess the title of a book based on its opening lines. And to click an accompanying link – to the company’s Amazon site – to check their answers.

Along similar lines, Buy.com’s Tweet n Seek campaign – an online scavenger hunt – encourages the company’s followers to trawl Facebook, Twitter, Fandango, YouTube and of course Buy.com, to find answers to a series of questions, which are then posted on Buy.com‘s Facebook wall.

With prizes including unlocked iPhones, Slingbox set-top boxes, and 0 movie gift certificates,  the campaign was designed to expose new and existing customers to as many of Buy.com‘s products as possible.

It succeeded. Buy.com Inc. President and CEO Neel Grover said, “Buy.com has earned new fans … from our Tweet n Seek contests. With each [campaign] we added new components and new companies. That is what’s great about social media—it allows you to tweak campaigns each time, keeping them fresh and timely, which is essential during a time of immediacy for news.”

With computing giant Dell reporting a remarkable .5m in sales through its Twitter profile – in less than three years – micro blogging is clearly a marketing medium whose time has come. The Newest Terms in Social Media Marketing: Tweet, Retweet and Hashtags

Perhaps you have noticed how Twitter recently gained influence to a lot of online people. Actually, it isn’t only Twitter which is getting too popular. Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn are achieving fame, too. You will hear about these online craze wherever you go. This makes other people curious. What is with these websites that makes everyone so into it? If you don’t have a Twitter account yet, why don’t you create one? You will then understand why your friends are so fascinated by it. The Social Media Marketing is so evolved now. There are several brilliant updates made that are more beneficial to its users. There are websites even made available for both recreation and business.

Take for example Twitter. It may appear boring to other people. But if you try to understand its real essence, you will appreciate how it works. In Twitter, there are terms coined to make the experience more unique and interesting. These terms are tweet, retweet and hashtags. There are actually hundreds of terms created already and new ones are still coming in. Through Twitter, people can get in touch 24×7. This facilitates exchange of ideas or information faster.

A person is called a tweeter because of giving personal updates to his Twitter account. Right now, there are more than 14,000,000 Twitter users in the US alone. There are also millions of members from other countries. It is a great tool to share information inexpensively to other people. In order to make your followers keep their interest in you, you have to constantly give them something interesting regarding your activities. These updates are called tweets. It is called twittering whenever you post updates on Twitter. Tweets only have 140 characters or less. Whenever you tweet, you have to maximize the 140 characters allotted. So you have to perfect how to deliver your lines precise and interesting.

If you haven’t had a Twitter account before or you are planning to create one, there are other important terms you should remember. A retweet is done when you tweet again the same quote or line of your fellow tweeter. When you retweet, you put an @ sign before the name of the person from whom you derived the tweet from. Some people use R/T or just RT before a person’s name to indicate retweeting. Retweeting is viewed as a respect to your co-tweeter. It will make them feel that their tweet is worth to be shared with others. Usually, tweeters are grateful whenever their tweets are being retweeted.

Hashtags are also significant for tweeters (e.g. #hashtag). Tweets can only be viewed by your own set of followers. If you do hashtag, you are making it possible for other people to view your tweets even though they aren’t your followers. This can help increase your followers. So, can you now understand how twittering can do well for your online advertisement? Surely, this is an important addition to your SEO strategy.
