The world wide web is the fastest growing marketplace in the history of commerce. You can buy anything on the W3. Problem is, everybody knows this so everybody (and his brother-in-law) thinks they can get rich building a web site and selling something.
It might be products – shoes, sporting goods, eBooks and other hard goods. Or it might be services – accounting, printing, snow removal – the web is all about selling. However, with 125 million web sites already live and 6,000 new launches daily, you might be a bit behind the curve. You see, the web is also the most cutthroat marketplace in the history of commerce.
Whatever you plan to sell, enter that product or service into the Google search box and see how many competing sites you’re going to face. Opening a small computer repair service? 1.75 million other computer repair companies and tech heads are in front of you. They’re on line and doing business. Those are your competitors and they have a head start.
Or consider this: the average web user scans a web home or landing page for 6.4 seconds before deciding whether to stick around or “bounce” to another site. On the W3 we have the attention span of gnats.
The most important thing to remember may also be the most painful and difficult web success concept to keep in mind: Web site visitors don’t give a hoot about you.
Stings a little, doesn’t it, but think about your own web surfing habits. When you land on a web site – whether through a search engine results page (SERP) or from a link connected to another web site, do you think about the owner of the web site? Do you care that she’s got a kid in college? Do you wonder if he’s making money with that web site?
No, because the simple fact is – nobody cares about you, your needs, your dreams and visions. Site visitors want to know one thing – what’s in it for me? And if you can explain to a site visitor what’s in it for her in 6.4 seconds, you just might make a sale. And if you make enough sales, you just might be a web success.
Your Web Site Objectives
When you start to develop your digital business model one of the first considerations you’ll make is to define your objectives for your web site. Are you trying to make a sale? Capture an email address? Collect visitor data on the “form” page? How about getting the visitor to pick up the telephone and call you right then and there?
These objectives are sometimes called the most desired actions or MDAs. It’s the most positive outcome you expect when a visitor lands on your site. But here’s the thing – your MDA isn’t necessarily the site visitor’s MDA.
You want to make a sale or solicit a telephone call. You want to build a database of email addresses or have the site visitor complete an on-line form. The visitor, on the other hand, may have a completely different objective in mind when he links to your site. He may be comparison shopping. She may be researching. They may be looking for a local accountant or buying a new home in zip code 12345.
Rarely are the objectives of the site owner and the site visitor the same. In fact, in most cases, the visitors’ MDAs are 180 degrees opposite from the site owners’ objectives. And that’s why so many web ventures crash and burn within 12 months.
It’s not about you, it’s about the visitors and what they want and expect when they land on your web site. Get THAT right and you may actually generate some income from that entrepreneurial spirit that burns within you.
Creating a Brand – FAST
6.4 seconds.
That’s how much time you have to convince a site visitor to look around. And the more they look around the more likely they are to perform the MDA – your MDA. In fact, two key metrics that search engine optimizers look at are time on site – how long did a visitor stay on a web site and bounce rate. When a visitor leaves immediately upon arrival at a web site, that’s called a bounce. You got your 6.4 seconds but you didn’t convert visitor to buyer so they bounced to another site, or hit the back button on their browsers and clicked on the next link listed on Google’s or Yahoo’s SERPs.
That means you have to create a brand in less than seven seconds. Here are some tips to do just that:
1. Add trust builders.
Display the On-line Better Business Bureau logo, the VeriSign logo, association emblems and other credibility builders to the home page and throughout the site – especially on the pages where your MDA is performed. Utilize green web hosting for your website and proudly display a banner that demonstrates this fact.
2. Demonstrate your corporate culture.
Your on-line corporate culture should be client-centric. Some elements that demonstrate your concern for the site visitor’s convenience and well-being include:
a toll-free telephone line
24/7 customer support (somebody’s always buying on the web; it never closes)
freebies like free shipping, free returns, free features, free ANYTHING
sales and discounts
green hosting services (makes a statement about your concern for the environment)
numerous payment gateways, i.e. credit card, PayPal, Google Checkout, etc.
easy-to-use and understand navigation
bulleted lists of benefits for the site visitor (we don’t read on the web, we scan and bullet lists simplify the process)
illustrations, photographs, graphs, charts and other visual stimuli (see the point above)
guarantees and warranties spelled out in big type and all targeting the prospective buyer
3. Personalization
Most of us have Amazon accounts. Well, my Amazon home page looks different from your Amazon home page because we both see different recommendations based on our past buying histories.
If you buy a lot of mystery thrillers, Amazon wants you to buy more. If you buy a lot of games, Amazon’s got recommendations just for you. Oh, and you’re welcomed back by name: “Hi, Bob, we have some recommendations for you.” The personal touch goes a long way in keeping visitors returning to perform the MDA over and over – their MDAs, not your MDAs.
4. Know When to Stop Selling
Everything can’t be “the best.” Everything can’t be “unique,” “leading edge” or the “top seller.” Web users have gotten so used to seeing hype on web sites that it’s all but invisible.
Instead, describe the benefits the consumer receives when they buy from you. Always keep the interests of site visitors at the fore front of your site design. Visitors want information – unbiased information.
Back to Amazon: this site encourages buyers to leave product reviews. That takes guts for any retailer because you’re going to get some negative reviews. But you’ll also get some unbiased reviews that sing the praises of a product or service. More and more web owners recognize that unbiased information and unbiased product reviews sell.
Hype doesn’t sell. It’s a turn-off. So, know when to stop selling and start educating. Site visitors are looking for information, not long-form sales letters that insult the intelligence of a chimp.
5. Treat Site Visitors With Respect
Make sure you publicize your “Privacy Policy” and “Terms of Service” (TOS). A lot of site owners hide the hooks in the small print of a privacy policy buried deep in the web site. Or they inform prospects that “your credit card will be charged monthly until we receive a cancellation notice from you in writing.”
You may make a customer – a one-time buyer – by hiding the fine print in the fine print but you won’t make a repeat buyer once they see that you’ve sold their email addresses to 1,000 spammers and now their inboxes are clogged with junk emails.
Treat your site visitors with respect and give them what they want – the facts, straight information, useful information that will benefit them in their buying decisions.
Success on the web isn’t guaranteed. In fact, more web ventures fail than succeed in achieving their objectives, in part, because the web site is all about the company and NOT about the site visitor.
Show visitors who you are – quickly – with trust building emblems. Make a statement about your corporate culture by using a “green” web hosting company. Make it simple for visitors to find unbiased information that they can use whether they buy from you or not, and make your business practices public knowledge. Don’t bury the double-cross in 6-point type buried in a stack of legal boilerplate.
You want web success? Of course you do. That’s why you’re considering starting a web-based business. Okay, then forget about your objectives and consider the objectives of potential visitors.
Give it away. And keep giving it away to create site stickiness. Visitors will even bookmark a web site that provides useful information and also happens to sell a product or service. And when site visitors finally decide they want or need that product or service…
…they’re going to buy it from you.

2. Submit your website to various search engine friendly directories, or ask the link building services to do it for you. There are many directories on the internet – both free and paid. 3. Create Squidoo pages. Squidoo is a free space on the Internet that allows you to create content that you want to share with others. You can set up a lens (or a page) easily and include your website URL within the content.
4. Write unique & quality articles and post them on your website. When your website has good content, it will attract other webmasters to link back to your website so that their website visitors can benefit from the content. This will turn your website into a link bait and get you a number of back links.
5. Exchange links with your business associates, suppliers, clients, and other webmasters or buy high PR links for your web site. These are possible candidates to consider for link exchange. Let them know that by exchanging links, visitors from both websites can benefit from the valuable content together.
These are just a few ways to get more back links for your website. Remember that link building is a continuous process and taking help of link building services can easily help you with this. To see results from it, you need to do it consistently. So plan your link building work properly and make sure that you are doing at least one link building activity every day.

I believe it is safe to assume that all internet marketers know that linkages to other sites are very important in improving search engine rankings. The more number of reputable sites pointing at you, the more search engines will rank your site better. Internet marketers and website owners allot time and money (if necessary) to their link building campaigns. Others use tools to automate and hasten such activity while other hires a link builder to do the job. Building linkages with other related or relevant sites to yours can be quite tasking since you have to write an email or even call other website owners or links builder to follow up your request for an exchange of links.
So, if you are a busy bee, it is better that you have someone who can focus solely in getting links for your site like the Link building Services. This way he can monitor your partners and even look for more partners. Anyway, one aspect of building links that we must all be familiar about is how to deep link. There are varied ways you can do in order to have a successful deep link building. First, if you post in popular forums, you can include a linkage to your site’s internal page on your signature. This way, people who get to read your post and click on your links will be directed to that internal page of your site. Second, you can also do the same thing when you submit your articles in article directories. Instead of directing people to your homepage, it would also be best that you bring them to other pages. Third, you have to be active in social bookmarking sites if you want to have a successful deep link building campaign.
Thus, bookmark every new internal page that you add on your site. But of course, don’t bookmark everything simultaneously. One or two pages a day is okay. There are just too many social bookmarking sites so I suggest you go for the top ten most popular sites so that you will be sure to get the best exposure for your site. It is nice to see that most internet marketers are also doing this nowadays. Sometimes if you are looking for a specific topic, it is more preferable that you are right away directed to that particular page where you could easily the topic that you are looking for instead of going to a homepage.

While many website marketing efforts focus on either content building or link building, many webmasters forget that the new social media gives you many ways to add value to the user experience for free. Adding to your online presence will enhance your site’s familiarity – and give users another way to keep track of what you’re up to. No matter what form your web business takes, you should be able to use at least one of these:
1. YouTube videos
Having your own channel on YouTube is becoming more of a necessity than a perk. Celebrities, performers, writers, artists, and content creators of every stripe are getting a personalized YouTube channel on which to deliver podcasts, press releases, video-blogs, life-streaming, and anything that would be enhanced by the audio-visual medium. You have to admit, some people watch better than they read! Video content can help reach a new audience, and videos can be downloaded and enjoyed on a mobile device later.
2. An IRC channel
After all these years (The IRC protocol is older than the World Wide Web), IRC is making a comeback. Hip, new social media companies are branching out into their own IRC channels and attracting a new audience. What are the benefits of having an IRC channel available for your site? It’s free and easy to use, and also ubiquitous across all platforms. It gives a new option for customer service and support, lets your online community thrive, and gives a nice “the door is always open” feeling to your online business.
3. Twitter
We almost don’t have to tell you that Twitter is the hottest new tech in social media. Celebrities are racing to establish homestead accounts on it already. When you get your own Twitter account in your website’s name, you can alert users and customers to new offers, news, and events connected with your online business. You can say, “We’re upgrading our app to 2.0 this month – watch our Twitter feed for up-to-the-minute notification!” or “We’ll be attending the business expo this week, and streaming live updates from Twitter.” Users eat this stuff up.
4. Social news sites
A lot more social news sites are catering to webmasters, by allowing them to create custom places on their site for links pertaining just to their business. On some you can start a sebreddit with updates to your blog. Like twitter, you can use social news media to give your visitors one more reason to keep coming back.
5. Profiles
Where’s your Linked-In profile? Or your Facebook page? Or your About-Us page? These sites are now functioning as a kind of yellow Pages for businesses on the web. Having a personal page up for your business will give you some credibility. It’s also one more smart way to enhance your online presence – search engine optimization sometimes is just a matter of having enough sites verifying that you are who you say you are!
6. Shoutboxes
These are like a special embedded chat room that you can host self-contained, right on the page. This gives your users another way to talk to each other, if you’re building a community, or for your customers to write in with comments and questions if you sell a retail product or service.

If you’re a leader, employee, or volunteer of a non-profit or mission-driven organization with limited funding and resources, you’ve likely said more than a few (million) times you wish there was a way to wake people up, get their attention, connect with like-minded folks, and incite meaningful action. Maybe you’ve dared dream of making a real, lasting difference in your community, or in the world at large.
Now along comes “Social Media.” For many, this overused phrase conjures up feelings of fear, overwhelm, technological anarchy, time suckage, and generational divides.
Please, don’t let that be true for you.
Social media tools and resources ARE the inexpensive, viral, and action-inspiring answers to your most audacious wishes and dreams. And the good news is, you can use your passion and vision to transcend overwhelm and hype, and explode your reach and results.
Here are five easy ways to do just that.
1. Inspire Direct Action!
One of the best features of human nature – even (and especially!) in a shaky economic climate – is we want to GIVE. Most of us give what we can, when we can. So yes, you absolutely can ask for donations through social media.

Search engines change their algorithms all the time so people can’t game the system. But here’s what will stay true no matter what: If there are links to your site from a highly-trafficked place of authority, and you regularly publish keyword-thoughtful content in those places, your search engine placement will improve.

If webmasters want to monetize their websites, the great way to do it is through Adsense. There are lots of webmasters struggling hard to earn some good money a day through their sites. But then some of the “geniuses” of them are enjoying hundreds of dollars a day from Adsense ads on their websites. What makes these webmasters different from the other kind is that they are different and they think out of the box.
The ones who have been there and done it have quite some useful tips to help those who would want to venture into this field. Some of these tips have boosted quite a lot of earnings in the past and is continuously doing so.
Here are some 5 proven ways on how best to improve your Adsense earnings.
1. Concentrating on one format of Adsense ad. The one format that worked well for the majority is the Large Rectangle (336X280). This same format have the tendency to result in higher CTR, or the click-through rates. Why choose this format out of the many you can use? Basically because the ads will look like normal web links, and people, being used to clicking on them, click these types of links. They may or may not know they are clicking on your Adsense but as long as there are clicks, then it will all be for your advantage.
2. Create a custom palette for your ads. Choose a color that will go well with the background of your site. If your site has a white background, try to use white as the color of your ad border and background. The idea to patterning the colors is to make the Adsense look like it is part of the web pages. Again, This will result to more clicks from people visiting your site.
3. Remove the Adsense from the bottom pages of your site and put them at the top. Do not try to hide your Adsense. Put them in the place where people can see them quickly. You will be amazed how the difference between Adsense locations can make when you see your earnings.
4. Maintain links to relevant websites. If you think some sites are better off than the others, put your ads there and try to maintaining and managing them. If there is already lots of Adsense put into that certain site, put yours on top of all of them. That way visitor will see your ads first upon browsing into that site.
5. Try to automate the insertion of your Adsense code into the webpages using SSI (or server side included). Ask your web administrator if your server supports SSI or not. How do you do it? Just save your Adsense code in a text file, save it as “adsense text”, and upload it to the root directory of the web server. Then using SSI, call the code on other pages. This tip is a time saver especially for those who are using automatic page generators to generate pages on their website.
These are some of the tips that have worked well for some who want to generate hundreds and even thousands on their websites. It is important to know though that ads are displayed because it fits the interest of the people viewing them. So focusing on a specific topic should be your primary purpose because the displays will be especially targeted on a topic that persons will be viewing already.
Note also that there are many other Adsense sharing the same topic as you. It is best to think of making a good ad that will be somewhat different and unique than the ones already done. Every clickthrough that visitors make is a point for you so make every click count by making your Adsense something that people will definitely click on.
Tips given by those who have boosted their earnings are just guidelines they want to share with others. If they have somehow worked wonders to some, maybe it can work wonders for you too. Try them out into your ads and see the result it will bring.

I bet you have fallen foul with questionable web traffic generation strategies before, and I bet you have wasted time and money with these activities which simply did not generate the results you wanted. Okay what are the best ways then to attract web traffic to your website?

1. Google AdWords advertising, otherwise known as Pay per click advertising. AdWords is terrific for attracting huge amounts of web traffic literally overnight.
