What exactly is a Title tag & what has it got to do with Website design?
The title tag is, and probably will always be one of the most important things that you need do during the website design process. If you do not have correct title tag, your website is doomed to fail from the very beginning!
In fact, if you optimize the title tag of an existing website, it could sky rocket a website in the search engine rankings to the top ten, depending on how competitive the keyword is that you choose to target!
Tip: Do a search for |untitled| in the search engines and see how many results come up? The reason for that is because most website designers do not give title tags any weight because they do not understand SEO!
How much weight does a search engine give to Title tag?
A title tag is beyond a shadow of a doubt one of the top five things that one can do to improve their rating with any search engine. You will not find a search engine anywhere in the world that will not read the title tag. Not only do search engines read the title tag, but the weight that they place on the title tag is far more significant than any other visible text, and black links that is pointing to your website.
Tip: The domain name should also include the keyword that you choose to target, so if you want to optimize the above keyword {Websites R Us} your URL should look like this http://www.websitesrus.co.za
You must put keywords in the Title tag!
The title tag you choose to use must have your keyword placed in it. Let us just say that your company is named |Websites R Us| which is a cheap Website design and website hosting Company. You should not just place the name |Websites R Us| in the title, but you should be far more descriptive than just that. The title tag should look something like this |Websites R Us – Cheap Website Design & Website hosting company|
As a Website design and Website hosting Company, one should want the website to appear in the search engines results with the following keyword |website design| and |website hosting| and not just Websites R Us.
Tip: The title tag should be different on ever single page of your website.
What else do you need to know about Keywords, the Title tag and Website design?
People often ask me how many words can they have in there Title tag? Well your Title tag should be anywhere between 35-60 characters in length.
The keyword that you choose to use in your Title tag should also be present in the body of your website!
You need to watch out for things like keyword density, to many keywords like the following |website design, website hosting, website design, website hosting, website design, website hosting, website design, website hosting| repeated over and over again over the whole page will get you banned by the search engines! Your keywords should be between 2-4% in text density.
